That's not clear either...he's an "exclusive" TRU Swap Force character, yet he's listed as a Spyro's Adventure stock item. Same SSA character in new packaging maybe? That's BEST case. It could in fact be simply the SSA stock item simply coming back.

I never got him the first time. If it doesn't say Series 2 or 3 ingame, I'm buying.

^It's a no brainer for those who didn't get him. I'm just thinking back to PEB and some of the negative reviews could be a repeat here.

From a business perspective, Activision sells the toys to make money, so if a character has no related toy there is less of an argument to include it in subsequent games. For example, why both programing in Ghost Roaster if doing so won’t sell toys.
This move allows Activision to re-sell old stock and provides an additional argument for including Legacy Skylanders.

From a fan perspective, can you imagine how annoying it must be to know that there is a awesome character in the game that you can’t have access to? It’s a neat way to let people new to the series play older characters without the cost of reposing the toy and creating new skills.

Actually, what Activision should do is start a new Skylander range called Legacy. It should exist alongside whatever the current game is, and it should be printed in small numbers so as not to cost too much. The range should include at least one version of every character no already included in the current run so that new players can access old characters (and current players can get replacement figures without ebay prices)

From what I heard around the net and a couple of people that don't want to get fired, is that the Adventure Packs from SSA are to not be sold anymore. It was the reason why Ghost Roaster is rare right now.

I'm not calling you a liar but a lot of stores in my area just got fresh restocks of the SSA Adventure Packs. Target, Walmart and TRU all have a few pegs worth. I don't know why this would be the case. I can see them no longer being produced since they adventure pack levels will no longer function in Swap Force. Personally I think they should do to Sun Burn and Ghost Roaster what they are doing to Dino Rang. Same old figure in a new package.

I'm TOTALLY for keeping figures not getting a new treatment in circulation--SOMEWHAT. What I'm NOT in favor of is a re-package with absolutely no additional work (either in the figure or in game). It smells too much like a slick "here this is new" when in reality it is not. For more information, see how they handled PEB. I like the idea of a program to get these guys. I'm guessing retail wouldn't want to mess with this in general...why not make them available direct?

I'm also in favor of not keeping any and all figures in circulation for an extended period of time. Still having nightmares of ShroomBoom, Whirlwind and Flashwings? Also, giving them a retail break helps generate new interest.

I hope this clarifies my position.

If they spend less time creating wow-pows and poses for old characters, they have more time to create levels and other content. The only reason I buy reposes is if I don't have the original - it would make no difference to me if they just kept the old version (and would probably be cheaper).

That's why I'd favor a 'Legacy' line - it'd be clear that they were older figures, and it would mean you only need two lines (the current one and 'Legacy') on the shelves (which would be less confusing for new users than having SSA, SG, SSF, S4 and S5 all on the shelves at the same time).
The back of each legacy pack could be very clear about which games it works with and how (e.g. Location for SSA/SG, magic item for SSF/S4/S5, etc)

Think of it this way one kid may hate how say hex looks, BUT seeing LC hex they may think oh wow she's cool.

They clearly need to do this, as 1. reposes are going to get more problematic and messy as the franchise continues and 2. the reposes will never fix the problem of demand for past figures. They can choose to address this in "some" way (you specified one alternative) or leave it to the hordes of eBayers and secondary market--but in that case...they lose.

That's one of the reasons why I want their availability to be tempered...there does need to be some pressure to buy them when they are available otherwise everyone will think "I can always get that one later" and then figures and sales languish.

Yes, but how long will it go on for?
If somebody still doesn't like Stealth Elf by the 3rd version, they probably won't like her later on. They are going to carry on releasing new versions of the main characters for years to come, and that is the problem. I often walk into stores and see two different versions of a character side-by-side. It doesn't confuse me, but I know that it does confuse a lot of parents. The problem is even worse online, going on amazon and searching 'skylanders whirlwind' appears with series 1 & 2, a triple pack with each and polar. How are parents supposed to know which one is best?
