Consider all of these additional figures choices for you to make. No one is making you buy them all. I didn't listen to that sage advise on Giants, but now with the number of figures approaching 100 for just ONE GAME there's no other way I'm going to survive this.
Three Bumble Blasts/Star Strikes....Two Magna Charge/Hoot Loops/Blast Zone/Smoulderdash/Slobber Tooth....oh my.

I agree. I liked the normalcy of the first game for this reason alone---each character was introduced ONCE.

The problem in this case is that those are spots which many people feel could just be used on more interesting reposes.
I would be fine with six Spyros if he was the only one or just one of a few, but do we really need three series of Eruptor, Cynder, Whirlwind, Chop Chop etc.? Those characters had Wow Pows and path switching. They were given enough time in the limelight and they don't need to come back again right afterwards only to be bought back over and over. It just reeks of "repackage whoever sells best". I think many people are feeling this way because I've seen quite a few complaints about third versions of characters taking the spot X deserved. I was really dying for a Series 2 Dino-Rang and would be interested in Series 2 Flashwing as well because I feel those characters could benefit more and become more interesting with Wow Pows than Terrafin and Prism Break. Same with Sunburn and Voodood. And Warnado- ESPECIALLY Warnado, who DESPERATELY needed a Wow Pow. He's just not interesting after playing him so much and he's kinda underpowered in harder modes. I also wanted Fright Rider. I know they are bringing back characters to keep them in circulation but they should just keep the ones that really warrant it, and already got a lot of focus, in reprint instead IMO. They'll have more and more characters that they give reposes to repeatedly in the future, and eventually that will reach a ridiculous point. Looking at it from a consumer standpoint I would like it more if they gave reposes to characters who are extremely special (original starter three) or deserve a more interesting upgrade and path switching. NOT just the ones that sold most with two to three of the forgotten to shut us up. I swear, if we see one more version of Eruptor with another boring to use upgrade in the next game...

I agree.
But if they want money, repose. Ghost Roaster or Dino Rang, not Eruptor or Whirlwind

Point taken; I was talking about their official line up, which didn't include lightcores and these crazy in game variants. It's gotten at least 4x worse now. Arc: I hear what you're saying, but Activision CEO has said there are what they consider "core" skylanders (not be confused with the core concept) ... so I'm guessing this is going to happen each and every year. I personally think that will help to unglue interest in the franchise. I really want Spyro, Trig, Whirlwind, Prism, Chop Chop and Gill to take a vacation.

I agree with this^. I'm buying LC Wham Shell because I never got an SSA version. Otherwise I'm not buying reposes. Maybe the characters they chose are the cheapest to make and they are hoping to hit those collectors that must have everything. It would be nice to have all the characters, I just can't afford that.

And Eruptor. Don't forget him. I'm amazed they managed to get four poses (so far) out of a mound of lava. I like him, and so do my kids, but COME ON. |

I don't want them to leave behind Spyro, since he's basically the main character.
Whirlwind, Chop Chop, and Prism Break should be put off to the side.

I enjoy collecting but the reposes are a little much. It wouldn't be so bad if they did a LC but not a repose or visa versatile (eruptor) so you don't have to get 3 or 4 of the same character. Yeah, I don't have to get them all but as a collector, yes I do. To most people completing the game 100% is all they need but to collectors we have to get every figure (unless they are REALLY obsessed and tries to get the chases) that is released. Its a compulsion that drives us crazy if we don't put forward our best efforts to look for them and get them. Unfortunatly as they make more figures per game, its difficult because in order to save some of our paychecks we have to pick and choose and risk missing out on a character (bash for me) and then we spend more money on some scalper or kick ourselves for months for missing out. I know it sounds silly but its the truth for the most part.

It is all a matter of defining your line as to what YOU consider a complete collection. They are really going crazy with this, all the first 3 packs have two reposes and one new one. In fact of the reposes available in Wave 1, every single one of them have several forms ALREADY. I get that there are those that are new to Skylanders that will want to play them, and those that would like their favorite to return, but this is out of hand.
I was all in for game SSA. I was all in for Giants. I needed to step back for this one. It isn't right for me to demand they cut back to meet my personal level of comfort, that is up for me to set my reasonable limit. And that level is new guys plus unavoidable reposes (in Starter Packs, for example). I may get some other reposes, but that will depend on my son and if they are on sale cheap later (he might want to get a few on his own with allowance money). You just have to convince yourself that your own definition of "complete" is ok. Because if you let Activision do it then you are in for a world of hurt. And I have done it before, my level of "complete" is below GhostRoaster and WELL below Gamemaster. I ruled out packaged figures and ruled out chase variants before, why can't I just draw the line this side of reposes this time? |

Agreed. I'd add Stealth Elf. She's great, but I think 5 is enough. I also agree with deciding on limits for your collecting rather than giving in to the "catch 'em all" mentality I imagine they'd like us to have. I decided to draw the line at having two of each character. That way I can do both upgrade paths. Of course, I have to make exceptions for my favorites, lol, so original Hot Dog and Molten Hot Dog will be getting a new friend... |

If it wasn't for the fact that people keep buying specific characters the outcome would be different. So many bought Stealth Elf, Flashwing, and Hotdog over Zap. It is the reason why they are in Swap Force.

zap didn't have a single pack in Giants though, making it harder and most costly to get him rather than the other figures... |

I think that being conscious about collecting what *you* want to collect in a hobby like this is essential. Whether the limiting factor is money, space, personal ethics / ideals or anything else, *you* know what *you* view "completion" as.
I just did a post over in Merchandise where I talked about what I'm planning on getting on Launch Day (luck providing, of course.) The 2 old 1 new triple packs are *annoying*. And while I like some of the characters that get constant reposes (Whirlwind, for instance) I'm still missing Ghost Roaster and with no repose there's absolutely no reason for sellers not to jack him up another 300% if they feel like it. (I *really* need to get on buying Dark Light Crypt -- wait a minute, has anyone else considered it shortens to DLC ? -- before this happens.) My own personal definition of completion is having one version of each *unique* character, and then adding variations of the characters as *I* see fit. Figure out what yours is and stick to it.

I dunno... not sure how I feel about the, 'too many reposes' I see them more as upgraded characters than anything else.
But in a way, I've allready got my limits that I set on myself. true it'd be neat to 'have them all' but i don't really care that much in some ways. Right now I'd just like to have 1 of each skylander. For those of you who don't know what I mean... simple, any repose, variant, or original of a skylander, I count as having that skylander. For example, I have Legendary Trigger Happy, thus I consider it that I have Trigger Happy. So yeah, I'm content to have 1 of each skylander, the only exception is ones that are my favorite. For example, Stealth Elf, I like her, Thus I wanna get each version of her. However, there is one that I for one find a little 'pointless' in my books. meaning I don't really care for. And that's Special Variants. For those of you who don't know... there are 2 types of Variants. Special and In game. In game variants are variants that the game acknowledges. This includes, the name (Legendary, Dark, Enchanted, ect) and the color scheme. Special Variants are Variants that only the toy has any changes to it. In the game they are the same as the normal skylander, except that is says it's a 'special' skylander. For example: The S2 Glow in the dark, Cynder. the toy is coated with that glow in the dark color. In the game, the only difference is that it's called, "Series 2 Special Cynder"... (can't remember if they got any stat changes.) So for me, I never did care for Special Varients. I mean true some of them look pretty, "pearl Hex" or whatever, but if I can't see their prettiness in the game. Then I don't care. Oh, i got it, honestly the thing I kinda don't like is like, every skylander now has to have their own variant name. I mean, SSA had Legendary and Dark but really Dark Spyro was in a way special... but either way, each of them also had a Story behind the 'legendary skylanders and Dark Skylanders'. But not the newer ones... So yeah, I think it's a little 'dumb' that each one as their own variant type... or at the very least... no backstory for it.
