I'm getting fed up with them over this stupid guide, why say you will release something on the 7th, get it in store and then say they are holding it until Sunday? I understand about the street date restrictions, but really, they said they'd have it in store today at my gamestop, I go there and they say they r holding it until Sunday. What's the point of lying? Release things on the day you intended to Gamestop. Smfh

Are you talking about the Brady Guide? I thought it would be out for the 13th, not the 7th?

Yeah, it must be a pain not to read about the game before you play it.
HEY--look on the bright side--you can OWN the SOUNDTRACK now!

For some stupid reason beyond human comprehension, GameStop said they would release it 6 days before the game came out, it makes sense to release it with the game, but I would have liked to picked out the paths I wanted for all my upcoming skylanders.

Maybe it was a mistake on their side for the 7th and should've been for the 13th since the beginning?

I'd love to buy the guide, maybe if I save up my money, I'll be able to spare like $20. It is still $20 right?

This is one of my complaints of the current generation of gamers (and the one before). Between guides and the Internet no one figures anything out on their own. They buy the guide with the game so they can play through it with the guide at their side as fast as possible and be the first to post "OMG, SO EASY" or post spoilers in comment sections. I'm not completely against guides, I've bought a few for my son because he loves to read about the games (like with the Skylanders), but I try to enforce he at least try to honestly beat it by figuring it out before he looks it up. Another issue is how games don't usually come with manuals anymore, so having a guide can be helpful in getting the most out of a game. It is a long time since my early gaming days where you wouldn't find out how to beat a tough game until months later when they might post a tip or code in Nintendo Power/Fan Club Newsletter. I can think of several times in the past where determination was the only guide I had on my side. I remember beating Contra before anyone knew about the Konami 30 lives code. I beat the original Ghosts and Goblins with no help, same with Ninja Gaiden. I was stuck on The Legend of Zelda for days until I figured out I was in the fifth dungeon instead of the second one (and blue Darknuts suck badly with only 4 hearts). I was stuck for weeks on the Zelda second quest until I figured out you could go through some walls. And the worst was me getting to the first boss on the Dr. Wily stage before I even knew you could switch weapons (the instructions were crap), I initially thought it was a bug when I paused to go to the bathroom and came back and he was orange. Of course some games were too hard, but you worked through it as best you could - and you talked with your friends on ways to do it. Now you just pull up Gamefaqs and DONE. |

Their site says release date 10/9/13 so you should be able to get it tomorrow. Typically the game guides come out a few days before the game release. Last year I pre ordered the Giants game guide from GameStop and received it in the mail 3 days before the game was released.

Lulz, I just love reading the guide. I don't even use it, and I read it from page to page.
It makes sense that you want to pick out the paths, but I think you can wait until the characters are out.

That is annoying but I think the real problem is we're all just anxious and little things are bothering us. Breathe. On another note, I preordered the collectors edition on amazon. Its around $25. You get some exclusive things so I figured it was worth the extra money.

I don't use guides for that, especially skylanders, puzzles are so easy to get through in the game that it's really only useful to me for the skylander section and collectables.

Guides take away the sense of discovery for me, If I plan on buying a game I try to look at as little as possible when it comes to spoilers. I do look at all the characters early though so I know which ones I want

I only buy guides if I'm officially stuck in a game and cant get a decent explanation online or if I'm looking for all the treasure chests, things like that. Those things are hidden well sometimes. Or you have to do something special to get things to appear.

I haven't bought a guide since Pokemon Emerald.
I only really look stuff up if I'm stuck and need help or have beaten it and am looking to see about those secret extra goodies that I'd otherwise never know about.

I remember having to dial a 900 number to get help on those old Sierra games. Those were TOUGH! I personally felt like I cheated MYSELF if I had to get help. I still remember playing CastleVania II and beating it fair and square...talk about weird puzzles! But yeah, I'm old fashioned that way that your fun has to be hard work lol.

What, you think having to duck several seconds in an unmarked area while a particular item was equipped that only vague references were made about in order to summon a tornado to warp you and progress on the MAIN story line is obscure? What a horrible night to have a curse. |

I was just in GameStop this morning and they looked up on computer if they could sell me the guide and it said yes. I did not get one since they did not receive their shipment yet. There system will allow you to buy it. Also they have 10% off the guide with purchase of the game,

I think the developer should be shot for putting that message box on screen EVERY TIME the night came. But yes, that's not obscure at all! LOL

I buy the guide mostly because it looks awesome and I love seeing the upgrades and stuff like that, not for the walk through.

I know I'm not exactly the majority on this one, but I wasn't a fan of Simon's Quest, it simply wasn't fun to replay. I got it on release, beat it (a few times), but it was so blah. They of course did it right with Symphony of the Night, which fleshed out the blah parts. Simon's Quest had some great things that lead the path for others, like Super Metroid, etc. - but I loved the first Castlevania so much more. It just needed more cooking (and it was delayed a couple times already) and more powerful hardware. Goonies 2 (also by Konami) was a vastly better side scrolling, go anywhere game and it pre-dated Simon's Quest. It had its own share of problems though, but I think the worst was the instructions not telling you some very vital items couldn't be used unless you went to a submenu by pressing "B" on the inventory screen. Another game that I was stuck on forever until a friend found it by accident. |

I know it's off topic, but I didn't really like it either. It was a new direction, and while I applaud the "adventure" aspect of the game it wasn't worthy of its name. I absolutely loved the third game (Dracula's Curse). It was back to its arcade roots, and supported branching. I'm wondering why skylanders doesn't think about in its adventures. They are simply sequential chapters.

For the Giants guide, my kids tend to use it to learn or figure out the characters. Also we do use it on some of the harder puzzles, or for looting an area. I don't know how many times they've played though the game... I had to stop keeping track.
We don't need the guides, but they are good when stuck. Also pretty dam good tool to encourage reading. Honestly wish I had had one for Final Fantasy VII. After reading this I went and checked my pre-order of the guide book, and reduced the high-speed shipping to normal. We don't need it that quick and really it was not going to get home any sooner. If GS has a good deal on the day I may well still cancel the pre-order. Just scored their special (extra 100 pages) version of the infinity book for 7.

The only guides I buy without hesitation are the Castlevania guides and that's because I collect everything associated with that series. It is my favorite game series. You name it have it.
For Skylanders not sure if I'd get one for Swap Force. If it has something in it I want to read possibly, but I doubt it. I do have the Spyros Adventure guide more for the background stories on the characters but I don't use it.. it was on sale and marked down so I got it.
