Day 1 at TRU question [CLOSED]

I have a quick question, what kind if free figure do you get for preordering swap force? (Not LC Hec) On the pamphlet it has pics of characters from giants being free, but other websites say you get a free swap force character, which one is it?

I'm pretty sure it's one character that's priced $10.98 (or less), regardless of which series it comes from. You'll want to confirm that with your local store though, most likely.

@Zap - While Matteomax is correct per the 'letter of the law', if you did place your order before the offer, you have a very legitamite reason to request they honor the offer. Pre-orders after the offer will have to settle for Lightcore Hex and a poster. But you should definitely try!

The free extra figure promotion was only offered certain weeks since Swap Force was available to pre-order. If TRU offered the promotion one week but you didn't pre-order during the promotion I guess I don't understand why you would think you have any right to the offer? Granted if you cancelled your old pre-order and started another then that is understandable but it shouldn't just be rewarded to others by default.

Not by default, no.
However, if a customer requests it, it is reasonable for a store manager to honor it, if s/he chooses to honor it regardless of the date when the pre-order was submitted.

@TheGooch - I disagree. But similar to M.Max, you are correct in that they are in no way obligated to honor any order outside of their advertisement. But from a customer service standpoint, it is similar to an in-store price guarantee. Most vendors will give you the difference if they provide a better price/offer after you already made your purchase/placed your order. Otherwise they would be penalizing early patronage (NOT good for them), and dissuading consumers from such loyalty in the future.

It almost certainly won't be 'automatic', but it should be honored. Just be prepared to speak with customer service if you ordered it online, or a manager if you ordered it in-store. Oh, and it would probably be in your best interest to do so sooner rather than later. Then again, you may be able to capitalize on 'launch day chaos'... Either way, let us know how it works out for you.

Whether it is considered "good customer service" or not stores are getting less lenient as to what they will allow the customer to get away with. Price match and return windows are getting shorter. Just last month I attempted to return an item back at a Walmart that I didn't buy it in. I had the receipt but I was denied the return because it wasn't the same store. That had never happened to me before. Why can't people just accept hat they didn't make the window of a promotion and be done with it? If too many people complain and try to shift blame on a store rather than themselves then these types of offers simply won't be made very often if ever again. Enjoy your free Hex, accept that you didn't make it to the party with the free 2nd figure but most importantly have fun playing the new Skylanders game!

Without a sale, the main reason for going to TRU would be the Legendaries. Since its prices are higher than any other stores, TRU will need to have the BOGO% sale to have people stick around to purchase the other figures.

I am very sure that the folks in Toys R Us' corporate/sales departments are very aware of this. The chances of TRU offering an attractive Day 1 price promotion are very high. Don't panic just because nothing has been announced yet. Today isn't 10-13-13, it's 10-4-13.

Yeah that is a good question! I would love to get another figure with my smilie and get a sale as it would be demented to see DI get a sale, but not Swap Force. Then again as others said before it's very likely they know and will give a sale on day 1.

Some people are probably already aware of this, but for those that are math-challenged and/or easily duped when it comes to retail sales/promotions/marketing ....

The "BOGO 40% off" deal at Toys R Us is not a fantastic offer. TRU's regular retail price for a basic Skylander is $11 ... while Wal-Mart and Target's regular retail price is $10. So, if you were to buy two Skylanders at TRU during a "BOGO 40% off" promotion, that would cost (before tax) $17.60. When you compare $17.60 with the price of two Skylanders at Wal-Mart/Target (which is $20 before tax), the REAL ACTUAL savings from the TRU "BOGO 40% off" is only 12% (or $2.40).

Occasionally, TRU offers "2 Giants for $22" ... now THAT is a good deal. And I've also seen them occasionally do "BOGO 50% off" or "BOGO 60% off" or "B2G1 free" promotions ... and those are all good deals. But the "BOGO 40% off" is just a marketing lure ... every little bit counts, I suppose, but that promo is nothing special.

I'm still excited about the BOGO, even though I recognized it's a minimal sale. What it does is make it so that I don't have to choke down paying more than MSRP for Skylanders in order to get to the Gill Grunt promotion. That makes me feel better in my heart about being insane.

#28 Posted: 15:30:00 05/10/2013
For those who are deal-challenged, the TRU deal is better than 12% off.

Toys R Us will price match competitor's offers.

http://www.toysrus.com/shop/in...goryId=11949070

The relevant section of this policy is this:

Quote:
Prices are matched after deducting any Toys"R"Us and/or Babies"R"Us coupon savings and other offers from our price.

So, this means, if you bring the ad from a competitor (Which you can use TheGooch's wonderfully useful thread here as reference), TRU will apply the Buy One Get One 40% off, then match the regularly priced item.

So, a regular figure at TRU is $10.99 or $9.96 at Walmart. Two at Walmart would be $19.92. At TRU, your first would be $9.96 and your second would be $6.59. So, $16.55 for the pair - roughly 17% off ($3.37 off) if you bought them at Walmart. This is actually cheaper than BOGO 50% off.

Where this gets even better is that TRU is now price matching select online retailers.

Quote:
We will match prices from selected online competitor websites,
including Walmart.com, Target.com, BestBuy.com, Sears.com, Kmart.com, buybuyBaby.com, Meijer.com, FredMeyer.com, diapers.com, BabyDepot.com, and Amazon.com (not including marketplace pricing).

So, between local ads and the various online sites, you should find someone to match. What will be more awesome is if Amazon does a price match of some sort to Toys R Us - which they're known for doing often.

Anyway, great deals to be had out there, if you know what you're doing.

I agree with you Bahamut, it isn't as super of a deal as it appears since TRU overcharges on their figures. You have to buy multiple in similar type packages in order to benefit the most. That doesn't even cover how their Swap Force Lightcores are $13.99 now (check the website) and Swappers are $16.99.

I'll still get many of my Day 1 purchases there since a deal is a deal, but it isn't knock your socks off awesome of a deal even with attempting to stack discounts, and it will definitely hurt if things come in on non-sale weeks.

I was in town to pick up my GameStop exclusive Wind Waker, so I stopped by TRU tonight to "pre-order" my Wii and 3DS copies (might as well so I can get the free Lightcore Hexes). They had these "Toys Kids Love" booklets that have a coupon for "20% off one regular-priced Skylanders Starter Pack, figure or video game accessory". I wondered if one would be able to convince them that, when doing BOGO 40% off, the first one was still regular price. smilie

Has anyone else noticed on tru.com that LIGHTCORE PRICES ARE 13.99 and SWAP FORCE are 16.99. They seem to have gone up $2 on each. If those are store prices...then this 40% sale looks more closer to BREAK EVEN.

I'm not entirely sure I need to do much more than the LEGENDARIES there.

UNCLE BOB: I'm not sure they can apply PRICE MATCH with a BOGO. It's either or last time I checked. Earlier this year I tried to price match on a discounted item and was told THEIR price with the discount or the OTHER price...couldn't mix and match.

2 Lightcore at TRU during BOGO 40 sale at 13.99 price = 22.38
2 Lightcore at Target no sale but at 11.99 price = 23.98

YOUR SAVINGS = $1.59 (~6.7% off)

2 Swap Force AT TRU during BOGO sale at 16.99 price = 27.18
2 Swap Force at Target no sale but at 14.99 price = 29.98

YOUR SAVINGS = $2.79 (~9.2% off)

So I guess a sale is a sale, but it's hard to get very excited.

What? That just says they won't match, say, Best Buy, if BB does a Buy One, Get One Free or such. They won't match a competitor's BOGO offer.

This is *their* BOGO Offer.

The important part of their policy is as follows:

Quote:
Prices are matched after deducting any Toys"R"Us and/or Babies"R"Us coupon savings and other offers from our price

So, they will apply their offers (BOGO 40%), then, will price match. This is why the 40% off is taken from their regular price of $10.99, then, the regular priced item is price matched.

It works. smilie

$10.99 + $10.99.

Apply TRU's BOGO 40% off offer.

$10.99 + ($10.99 x .6)

$10.99 + $6.59

Now, price match the first item with, say, Walmart.

$9.96 + $6.59

OK, the price match is on the item that hasn't been discounted. However the discounted item is based on the percentage off THEIR price.

Cool. I haven't seen Amazon re-act to BOGO offers, just straight up discounts. We'll see.

One thing's for sure - I'm bringing my laptop for the midnight launch so that I can pull up all the online retailers and see who has the best price at the time. smilie
