Its almost as if there was a toss up between who would get the last tech new-core-lander spot and Wind Up won by just a hair at the very last minute. Not to hate on the little guy, but he does seem very last minute... I think some pretty awesome stuff could have been done with his design to make him more like some of the other new-landers who are getting more favor with the fans.

He just needs more exposure, whether it be more game play footage or commercials, I think. Less Bumble Blast and more Wind Up...

I actually agree with this. I liked Countdown at first, but after seeing Wind Up's into/gameplay vid, I grew to like him. I like all the little noises he makes when he moves and attacks. His movements are kinda cool too.

I've watched the gameplay vid several times, just to hear his noises.

I agree with this. If any of them are more last-minute, it's Countdown- he is just a bomb in a suit with rockets. His personality is very generic.

At least Wind Up has more originality in that he is a clockmaker's toy that uses other toys to attack(CYMBAL BANGING FTW). And honestly, the only really similar things in their designs are 1. The body build and 2. The colour scheme(you could also say they're robots, but then include Bouncer, Magna and Drill- yeah Tech has a few robots). Punk Shock is similar to Rip Tide and was revealed later but I see nobody complaining about her.

Honestly, I don't mean to start an argument here, but it baffles me how so many people like Smolderdash's design and yet hate Wind Up's. At least Wind Up actually looks like a Skylander and actually has charm and detail.

And Wind Up also has the only personality of all the Newlanders that I actually like. All the others feel either generic goofy, generic action girl or generic heroic... Wind Up's personality gives me an "out-of-order" vibe. (I've said this before, he reminds me of the cymbal-banging monkey from Futurama)

Of the two, Wind Up's gameplay just looks more interesting. I do think people can exaggerate how much of a mish-mash Countdown is(I honestly think that it will combine into something really fun if kinda similar to others), but if I had to pick between them, Wind Up wins any day. His attacks are just more unique than Countdown's and have much a much more original design.

Honestly... Really... I just don't get the Wind Up hate. Is it just because Windumup kept hyping him before he was even revealed? What's so wrong with him that makes so many people hate him? Honestly, He's my most anticipated of all the new Skylanders, because I feel he is different from the others and he is someone I would want to buy(I also like Zoo Lou for these reasons). There's just something about him I love- I think the fact that he is actually a little wind-up toy. But it seems he has so few fans, which disappoints me. smilie

This, and the rest, I agree with you on every point.

I had to compare Countdown and Wind up side by side to try see the similarities - still couldn't see it.

I love the character of this little guy, especially the crazy little head shake he does, makes him seem totally whacked off his head.

Agreed. In my opinion, Wind-up is the Shroomboom of this Skylanders generation. Character developed as an afterthought because someone in the developers' room realized, "Hey guys, I know we thought we were finished with these new character designs, but somehow we forgot to make a second new Tech element character. Hurry up and throw something together so we can get to dollar pint night."

I dislike him, but I find him pretty original.

Suction cup guns? Pretty dumb, but original.

Claw pinch combos? Original.

He's just ANOTHER generic robot, in the bin with Drill Sergeant, Bouncer, and Countdown.
Not to mention the same old color scheme.

^ Naw, Windumup. People dislike Windup for the same reasons they dislike Shroomboom. He's goofy looking and lacks that distinctive intangible "mark" of a Skylander. Like I said in the above post, I'd be unsurprised to learn that Windup (like Shroomboom) was designed/developed simply because the development team was out of good ideas but needed to "fill" one more "spot" in the lineup of new characters for a certain element.

I dont really see him as a counterpart to shroomboom. I see him more closely to Jet Vac
Jet Vac has little to no fans and so does wind up (And I litterally dont have to much fans here just like him but that is off topic)
He is unique but may be a "need to know how to" kind of skylander

He is probably my favourite of all the new ones. Lovely little chap, like a 19th century sheet toy. Him, Smolderdash and Popthorn seem to be the most ridiculous ones this time around, and the more ridiculous, the better.

When compared to Smolderdash, Wind Up's design is certainly must more intricate in detail, thus making him more appealing. I'll admit when I first saw Smolderdash's image, I wasn't impressed, even in the slightest. I think she's getting a lot of hype just for being the first female fire-lander.

Honestly, even the characters I hated (Grilla Drilla, Fire Kraken, Punk Shock, Riptide) are growing on me, and Wind Up looks so weird. But I like weird, and old Windy Boy seems perfect. Vv did a great job in character design, and they are way better then the Giant's batch. And that's saying something, cause 16 more characters means that there could potentially be more fails, but this time around they all look great.

As discussed in the Voices thread...the voice acting across the board is lackluster and too similar in a few cases.

It's a bit premature to give the ShroomGloom Award to Windup yet, but what I do find interesting is our general perception that there's a lot less "uniqueness" this go around than last time--part of it is due to the fact that they're giving us DOUBLE the amount of new skylanders than last time--which to me is AWESOME. However, this makes re-treading very likely...and seems to be the case this go-round. The VV interview with irategamer seems to suggest that there was even an idea entertained about a skylander that was a chef...(my immediate thought is something a la Food Fight where the chef throws food ingredients as weapons). Uh, right...

I must say---if they're going that route I know these boards can whip up A MUCH BETTER skylander if the well of ideas is running this dry. I might even suggest to Activision that they establish a board on their development team from these boards to act as a consultant.

Rickorio: Maybe...the point being that I hope they can avoid the elemental traps which are (in my opinion) focusing some of the character's capabilities on perhaps too common of themes which breed the discontent.

I like your ideas.
I do think that Wind-Up is a strong candidate for the ShroomGloom Award, though. It's too soon to tell just yet, but when I consider the candidates, Wind-Up has to be among them. Bumble Blast is probably his stiffest competition for the unceremonious honor.
