Very well then: My Response is: No. I'm not closing this thread just cause you people tell me. For the 3rd time, don't like the thread, just don't read it, I didn't kidnap you and drag you here. Simple as that. Maybe if you people didn't act like this, I wouldn't be rude at all to anyone here. I am not attacking anyone for their opinions, I am retaliating because some (but not all) are opposing mine in a very childish and rude way. I wish this site had an option for the owner of a thread to block certain people from commenting on his/her threads or to manually delete comments, Youtube has it. All I'd have to do is let you say something bad, block you and/or delete your comment to silence you for good. That would make this (and any other thread) much more peaceful without having to close anything.

There's still a considerable gap in understanding on exactly how upgrading skylanders will happen. We know some data is still being saved on the figure, but there's apparently a way to do this with in game artifacts...which in my mind muddies the portability of the character's ability when played on different platforms and basically negates all of this hard work to completely upgrade skylanders for new adventures.
The game nailed graphics, voice acting presented so far is mediocre, and they've delivered on a MINIMUM set of levels I'd come to expect. The only thing nagging me is 1. How FUN is the game with all of the activities and 2. How GOOD is re playability after the game is done.

I'm actually more excited about Swap Force than Batman Arkham Origins. That's saying something, cause I loved the first two games of the Batman series. Just not convinced WB Montreal can do what Rocksteady did, even with their source.

I'm thinking of canning my Assassins Creed 4 preorder, and I've sold off most of my Infinity figures for extra Skylander cash. Once you've unlocked everything an Infinity figure can give you they all play identically, so there isn't any point in keeping many of them at all.

To talk directly to LightSpyro--I too believe there's great potential in this franchise. Some of the greatness will be curbed by Activision's desire not to sway too far from the roots of the franchise beginnings. That will both help and hurt. I'm not sure "free creative license" is in play here as it is established and there will not be a desire to move it from the status quo.
In my mind, they will be trying lots more inventive things with the toys, but the game itself will remain true or close to current state. I hope they also start to experiment a bit on the gameplay a bit---and I think they are---but in safe, calculated moves. My personal beef is replayability to justify hundreds of dollars into the toys. Unlike what they portray, my kids do not take my skylanders to the bath tub or beach and play with them...and for me it's about game time not toy play time.

Factually untrue - there are several ways to get the spins to unlock every toy really fast. If you want to know how I do it, PM me. ![]() In my opinion, they are both really nice games, and they both still have lots of stuff that could or should be better. Skylanders should have more stuff to do for the characters, it should have a huge hub world in which you can build nice homes for your figurines, it should have online co-op, it should have enough content to last for a year. Also it needs to have a character based on a flamboyant cuttlefish, because they are the best creatures to roam this planet. Go to youtube and marvel at them right now, that is an order btw! Infinity should have characters with much more different abilities, the characters should have proper upgrade paths, the playsets should be bigger, there definitely should be more playsets than they are planning to release, in fact there should not be figurines without a playset attached at all, there should be far more classic content, and the toybox should definitely not fill up so fast. So, loads of stuff in both games that should be better, but hey, I still love both of them. No need for anybody on any side of the fence to ridicule the other side, or even to choose sides at all. ![]()

What I would like to see in the game is a true variance in difficulties. Like up the enemy count into true "Gauntlet" levels. Don't just make the enemies a bit harder and give less exp - in fact in harder modes they should give more exp, to encourage players to try it as a faster method of leveling up, if they can survive. Easy and normal should be similar to today, playable with low level characters/skill. Hard should start sending out swarms of enemies and maybe even add additional "phases" to bosses, as well as an extended ending as a reward (or maybe another small level). And Nightmare should amp it up to the point where a small group of Chompies is lethal without a good strategy and higher level characters. Hard and Nightmare should almost require pre-leveled up figures before even attempting it, unless you are crazy pro. That would go a long way towards keeping it interesting for the older/better players beyond the first few days. |

I've heard from VV that they introduced some variable difficulty into the game to make the gameplay more unique---ie it adapts based on how you play. This is an independent mechanic in addition to difficulty. I have no idea what that REALLY means so I guess we'll just have to see. It does sound promising though.

I think it depends on what you think is important, I guess. To put this whole thing in context, in SSA/SG once you had eight elements there were diminishing returns in collecting further figures. You’d get the challenges and the elemental bonus, but the core content was totally unlocked. That situation is worse is SSF, as now you need one of each element AND one of each movement type. Old players are set already for elements, but new players will be hard pressed to get all movement types and elements without quite a few purchases. Now it’s pretty hard to compare Skylander’s situation with the Infinity situation, just because the genres are so different, but I tend to see Infinity as primarily a tool-set and Skylanders as primarily Diablo-lite. So with that guideline in mind, very little of the prime Skylander gameplay is locked, while significant parts of Infinity are locked… for example, you need all the Pirates to open the vault in Pirates, which you have to do if you want access to all the building blocks in the Toy Box. Now considering that the toy box is the prime reason to play infinity (IMHO), it seems unnecessarily punitive to limit your options with the vault. If you don’t feel the same way, that’s fine. But the fact remains, if you want the full range of pieces to build with, you need all the figures… otherwise that texture set, building or skybox you want to use will likely be unattainable. |

This seems like an odd reason to have them stop making new additions...might I suggest this for your storage needs: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sta...4266R/100375898 It's what I use and the price is right. This franchise is far from over. That being said I would appreciate maybe a longer break between sequels. Instead of October 2014 maybe March 2015 for Skylanders 4...but then they miss the holiday season and all those sales so maybe not...we are screwed. |

If that reason is odd, I'll do ya better: As mentioned before in he first section, Toys for Bob focuses more on developing the toys and the characters themselves rather than the rest of the content (especially the Gameplay Length and Difficulty settings). Because they rush the game to market, they quickly try to add the Toy Design and Data, Attacks Upgrades, Movie Preview, Upgrade Paths, Side Mission, Resposes, and extra gimmick gameplay (Giants can throw boulders, Swap Forcers can swap, etc.). Since they have 80 of them now and won't bother to remove even one, its no wonder Giants had even fewer levels than the first game/

I'm not entirely sure what your point is in regards to Swap Force. It's a well known fact that V.V. has been in development with Swap Force since 2011. It's also a well known fact that Swap Force will introduce 32 new Skylanders. This is the same amount that launched the franchise. Add to that the variants and Series 2-3 Skylanders and you've got a lot. I don't think anything about Swap Force will be rushed or unpolished once we're able to play it. I'm not trolling here I'm just having a hard time figuring out what your point is. I mean more than 2 years in development, adding jump, new graphics engine, 32 new Skylanders, Billions of Light Cores and Series 2-3 (sarcasm), a new bonus stat system and lord knows what else...what else would you expect at this point? Didn't know that that it was developed since 2011, thanks for that info. Point is though: there are too many toys and characters, they won't bother to delete even one of them and they just keep adding more and more. This is a flaw because: 1. Yes I know there are 32 coming, but there already are 48 Skylanders right now. 32 + 48 = 80, 80 characters is a ridiculous amount of characters total in a game like this. But it doesn't stop there: they also reposes some Figures with exclusive abilities, Lightcore figures, and Recolored Variants. Additionally since they've already added a lot of characters and the game has shallow combat, some of them play a lot like other characters that already exist: -Eruptor and Camo, shoot fireballs and Melon/Lava Splash Attacks - Pop Fizz is like a combination of Slam Bam (Melee punches), Eruptor (Lob Projectiles), and Sonic Boom (Spawn Allies) and little else - Jet-Vac and Gill Grunt have guns and jet packs; only big difference is that Jet Vac is more armored (which is absolutely useless and doesn't matter) and has weaker moves. The only time they actually play uniquely is in Battle Mode PvP, but as said before by Ace: even THAT game mode is lacking in some areas (such as being 2 player only and having stages WAY too big). I would've preferred the Lightcore Smart Bomb Blast to be an in-game powerup that could go to any character and not just some. 2. Remember that the all 80 characters are locked on the disc and require you to use a (bland) toy with NFC just to play as them. The game only comes with 3 out of 80 of them (5 in dark edition) and you have to buy them all if you 100% of everything in the game, with normal toys costing $9.99 and Gimmick Toys costing $14.99. That is too much to pay for one character and a mediocre-looking toy with no out-game actions other swapping top and bottom halves plus lighting up, something other toys already have); especially if that character has only 3 moves and little content. If you want everything: the whole entire game will cost more than $700, when you obviously could use your money for better things like other games with more content or even a whole console (even the Xbox One, which will cost $500). It really depends on what you, yourself think is important though, this is just me. I know its not mandatory to buy everything, but still irks me that its locked until you pay this amount. 3. Development time: whenever they're making the game, they act as if the playable character roster and CGI cutscenes are more important than the rest of the content in the gam; they're supposed to develop both things but prefer to use most of their time with the toys and characters. With more than 48 of these, that's why Giants had even shorter gameplay than the first game and had barely more content. Too many characters, not enough content. Now with 80 characters I'll bet Swap Force will have: - Even shorter gameplay length, maybe just as short - Weaker or just as weak difficulty - Costs TWICE as much money as the first 2 games - Deleted Adventure and Battle Pack Levels (or exactly the same, again.....) - More stuff locked on the disc like Wow pows These are just presumptions though, I won't really know the game is out in like 10 days. Still though, I will remain suspicious of that (or at least the shorter levels) until then. Do you understand now? I hope so.

You don’t have to buy them all, it’s not an issue. And unlike ‘other’ toy-based games, they all have their own skill sets, so people actually have a reason to collect them. Quote: LightSpyro13
Some characters have some skills that are a little like skills of other characters – this does not make them the same. Of course it all depends on how you spec them. Quote: LightSpyro13
The Melon and lava attacks are both AoE, but the melons have more range and less coverage… And camo’s fire is nothing like Erupters lob attack or rolling balls… and nothing Erupter has is like the vines. And the sun shield that Camo does is like no other character. Quote: LightSpyro13

Dude, I’m happy to argue – but you’re stretching the truth. Firstly, I think the toys are awesome. It’s a matter of opinion, not fact. Secondly, you only need eight characters to explore the whole game – not every one ever made. Nothing significant is locked if you don’t have everyone. Thirdly, 3 moves is wrong. Almost every figure has combos or special moves that aren’t just the basic three. In addition HOW those moves behave varies wildly on choices YOU get to make when levelling up. Fourthly, the ability to customise a character, their moves and their skills – and then have that stored on a toy - is utterly unique in gaming. It’s not just a ufc key. Quote: LightSpyro13
Firstly, Giants had provably MORE gameplay than Spryo’s adventure. Secondly, too much time on CGI? Really? I can’t think of many games with LESS CGI cut scenes – have you ever played Metal Gear or Final Fantasy or Diablo or… pretty much any other game ever? Quote: LightSpyro13
Wait… facts are now just whatever you make up? Well in that case, I bet it will be AWESOME. BOOM! I win! Quote: LightSpyro13
I understand you’re board of it, and you’re now seriously reaching for something to back up your feelings. Dude – you don’t have to. Just say, “I’m done with this” and walk away. You don’t have to make the internet agree with you before making a choice. |

I think I understand your position but I don't agree with it. You're still hung up on the fewer levels thing but V.V. has stated numerous times that the levels will take longer to complete this time around. So I'd give the game a chance in the meat and potatoes dept. before you right it off as simply having less content. I also don't understand how or why you keep getting hung up on the cost. Do you have to get everything? I mean I too have mild O.C.D. at times but I don't feel pressured to "Buy Them All" to enjoy the game. Why do you want them to "Delete" old characters? That is one of the strongest point to this franchise. When you buy a figure for the current game you are also buying a character for a future game...where else in this industry/hobby does this happen? You keep looking at the negative cost but not the overall value. More characters is a good thing. It gives them greater odds of doing the impossible in customer service...pleasing everyone. Yours is the first argument I've seen against this level of variety. I just don't get it. Also somewhat related Jet Vac and Gill Grunt are a lot different than you're giving them credit for. Gill's water hose attack knocks enemies back while Jet's brings them towards him for added damage when contacting the vac...vastly different. The Pop Fizz Slam Bamm thing is off too. I use potion Pop so I rarely use his transformation attacks while Slammer doesn't have a whole lot of options. The Eruptor Cammo thing is too big a stretch for me to comment on. Now this isn't a challenge to find all the Skylanders that have similar attacks, I know they're out there. After 80 figs it's only going to get more plentiful. I am o.k. with this though. The thing that makes these guys feel more unique is the spec. choice you choose. In regards to the cost of the figs. themselves, have you looked at the cost of an action figure? Star Wars guys are $8-$10, Ninja Turtles are $9-$10, Marvel Figs. are $8-$10, etc. The price range depends on where you go and if there happens to be a sale. Now granted they have moving parts but they don't have any virtual interaction. You put Iron Man, Darth Vader, and Shredder on your portal and you'll be there a while waiting for something to happen. That's what you're paying for. $10-$15 isn't asking much. A more direct comparison would be Infinity figs. which have the same limitations physically but are $13-$14 so there is that. Plus I don't know how old you are but in my early childhood I had to make due with little plastic toy soldiers stuck to plastic bases in fixed positions and I had a ball...hey I was young. In regards to not thinking the Player roster and cuts scenes are important content pieces, they in fact are. Cut scenes are industry standard to setting up the next stage of a progressive story. They help immerse you in the narrative between evil bashing. The only thing I wish they had was a little more importance on why any particular Skylander is doing what he's (or she's) doing. That's the only generic part of these games but I understand why they don't I still want personal story in my story though dammit lol. Time will tell and we don't have long to wait. Quote: THGold
Unfortunately that just isn't true regarding the old Adventure Packs. They will still have their spell effect in game but that's it. No arenas and no levels...Bummer I know. |

2. Doesn't matter whether they have more coverage or not. The point is some characters still play identically to some others and just use the same strategy in story mode. With the similar ones, you beat enemies basically by using the same strategy and spamming moves. For Gill and Vac, all you gotta do is just shoot stuff at them and fly away with your temporary jet pack. Camo and Eruptor, spam Lava/Melons and Fireballs.
In my eyes, the majority of characters only truly feel uniquely and don't use the same strategy is in battle mode PvP. 3. I haven't forgotten about their hose/jetpack, nothing more needs to be said other than #2. 4. No I am not stretching the truth. - Firstly, I did NOT say it was a fact that the toys are mediocre, of course it's just my opinion. Later on, I even said it depends really on what you think is important and its just me. Besides, the point that I was trying to make that each toy isn't worth $9.99. - You're probably forgetting about the heroic challenges. If you want them all, you have to get most of the characters in Giants. That is a significant part in unlocking everyone. And yes, I know they are not present in SF. - Thirdly, only SOME of the characters have combos and special input moves, not every single one. Plus those "combos" are NOTHING like combos in other video games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 or Super Smash Bros, all you have to do is just hit 2 times and hold another button for a moment. Its more of a command input move (like Akuma's Raging Demon in Street Fighter) than an actual combo. And even if a character has a 4th non-basic move, it still doesn't change that the combat is shallow and limited regardless of a path you choose. Beating enemies up with the same 3 (or slightly more) moves gets old and repetitive fast, and then I feel like switching to someone else after a while and then switch again later. If there were more combat buttons to use, then it'd be a different story. - Fourthly, Dude, just because it's unique does not mean its good, dude. Having data stored in toys also means you have to repeat the same heroic challenge over and over with each toy you have since it only goes to one figure each, which gets even older after doing each one for like the 100th time. I had to keep doing them endlessly and continuously and it was horrible. Also if you buy a repose of someone you alrady have, you have to start over and upgrade him/her AGAIN. 5. At the end of that number, I clearly said that those were just presumptions and not facts I made up. Please finish reading next time, dude. 6. Who was I talking to? Not you. And Again and for the last time: I see a lot of potential in this game and it could've been super cool, but it was undercooked when it was taken out of the oven. Not saying its a bad or boring game, but its just not the game it could've been. I still like the game and I even said I might get SF later at some point since it seems a lot more fun than the first 2 games (mostly because of Side-Scrolling and New Jump Platforming). If I do get it though, I will only buy a small amount of the toys and not too many like I did with the first 2 games.

I might quit. i dont know, i love Skylanders, but financial problems though. i cant say i live in a first world rich family that uses money as tissues.
the games are too short, but they are fun the toys are expensive, but they are so cool i want to continue, but i simply can't. dont have the money.

O.k. I'm not entirely sure who your are talking to but I'll respond anyway.

O.k. now we're getting somewhere. It appears you are a fighter fan and in that regard Skylander's Games in general will not have a combat as deep as even your average fighter. I think that's by design though. Keep in mind that V.V. made Swap Force with kids in mind first not young at heart adults. A complex system would require a much rougher a.i. to contend with and that would turn a lot of kids off. I personally feel it's true to the genre of your standard hack and slash/dungeon crawl. Maybe that's not your thing...it sounds like it might not be. Quote:
Now being honest where would you value Swap Force figs.? I personally think they are appropriately priced. That being said I wouldn't mind of they were cheaper but I also don't think we're being gouged. Quote:
Not entirely true for Giants. Some Heroics are unlocked by purchasing them with in game currency through Auric. Quote:
Already touched on this but I at least understand what you're looking for now. Quote:
Again so far it's true to the genre. Can't fault you for wanting more complexity though I just don't think it's going to happen. Quote:
This concern isn't that relevant in Swap Force since Heroics are gone and stat upgrades will be distributed through hats and a global pedestal system. I do agree with the pain part of doing all the heroics on every fig. Maybe that's why they changed the system...it just wasn't fun when it was said and done. Quote:
Ultimately that's all any of us can do until we get it in our hands...no one can fault you for that. I'm simply conversing here. I just think if people post stuff on a public forum they should be prepared for a public response and hopefully be prepared to back it up. Quote:
Ehhh we'll see soon enough. Quote:
Well good. It's always good to keep an open mind. Just be sure to take advantage of any coupons or launch specials if you change your mind in the next week or so lol. I personally think this will be the best in the series based on what I've seen. |

That was meant for Tel Prydain just so you know. I couldn't use quotes due to limited characters. Quote:
Damn right I'm a fighter fan, how'd ya know? This kind of game actually is my thing, I like Beat Em Up Games as well. Although I've been complaining a lot about the shallow combat and basic controls, its honestly the least of my worries for the game and doesn't irritate me as much as the others (especially the short length of gameplay). I'm concerned more about the actual difficulty rather than shallow combat. The enemies game are pathetic, they have terrible AI and predictably slow attacks, only some of them have potential to at least annoy me. Once defeated, they don't even respawn, they just die forever never to be seen again. Yes I know its a kids game and its not supposed to be overly complex. But at the same time, it shouldn't be pathetically easy either, even Nightmare Mode is pitiful. Shallow Combat and AI Stupidity contribute to this the most. Quote: I heard thy cost $14.99 like the Giants did, which is still overpriced. I found that the Normal toys should've been only $4.99 in stores and Gimmicky Toys should only be $1.00 more, $10 is a retarded amount of money to pay for one in-game character and an action less toy. Maybe if they had more content unlocked they would be worth it, but still not impressed. I know they won't stop this, but still. Quote: Yeah like only 4 of them, the majority of the Heroics must be purchased with other characters and are horrible. Besides, the only important heroics in my eyes are the Speed ones, the other ones revolve too much on luck. Quote: I know, I still think it needs to happen nonetheless. It's the only way the figures would be closer to worth purchasing.

I think you're way over thinking this. This game was created for kids, not adults. Yes i'm 36 and happy to say that we play it, we buy characters, in fact i'm missing Series 1 Zap, and i'll have all the figures, i have some variants but not all. My 4 year old kid plays this with me, but dont get me wrong when he goes to bed Mamma and Pappa play it too. The game is easy for a couple of reasons 1) again its a kids game, made to bring their action figures to life. Imagine (for those of you old enough) if our GI Joes or Transformers did this as a kid...2) replay value, get through the game play it again with another character. Currently my wife and i are doing it with LC characters only minus of course Hex. 3) for parents you know how many worthless toys we buy during the year, that the kid is over in say 5 minutes? Way more than skylanders.
My point this game is for kids, yes they added a jump in there make it a little more challenging because honestly i dont think Activision had any idea that this game would get over on us big kids like it did. Characters don't die they sleep. They dont have online because simply put the target audience of this game doesn't really go online. I work at Game Stop part time, and it helps in the cost of skylanders, as well as being able to cherry pick shipments lol. But when a 5 year old kid finds that character he's been looking for, and the look on his face it really is priceless. My kid when he comes home every night knows Swap Force is coming and every night, "Daddy, did you get me the new Skylanders?" for that reason alone i wont stop buying them. Forget the fact that i have a blast playing this as well.

The moment people start quoting another post's phrases separately is when you can be sure the discussion lost its purpose.Could both sides chill out, pretty please? You've had your opinions set and arguments made since page 2,and it's all repeating itself already. Someone doesn't feel like buying SF,fine. Someone can't afford it(*sobs quietly at my forever incomplete Skylanders triology collection*),fine. You'll buy it anyway? Also fine. There's no need anymore to throw negative and positive points to convice someone of doing otherwise, specially so close to the game's release. It's not needed if you can just wait 2 weeks and then watch a Let's Play to make up your mind.
