With the full roster seemingly released now, what do you guys think caused some characters to only appear as series 1? Ghost Roaster and Dino Rang come to mind for me. What are the others? Warnado? Wham Shell? Voodood? Do you think these characters were just not well liked? I'm just curious what the general consensus is about why some characters have been abandoned while others (Camo?) have returned.

Warnado and Whamshellhas returned as a light core.

I'm glad they haven't rereleased too many characters, I feel it cheapens them.

I feel bad for anyone who can't find old characters of course.

The forgotten 8 is now the forgotten 5 with Warnado and Wham Shell getting lightcores and Camo getting S2. If you ask me, I don't get why Dino-Rang supposedly sold very poorly, according to some guy who apparently knows everything. Everyone loves dinosaurs and alligators. Plus, Dino-Rang looks so awesome in that armor he gets in one of his upgrade paths. Sure, he's a bit on the ugly side, but he's still a cool character. I bet if TFB ever decided to bring him back that if they worked on his design a bit, I bet he could sell a LOT better.

Ghost Roaster and Sunburn were in hard to get Adventure Packs released at the end of SSA's cycle, and never got the chance to be popular. Boomer and Voodood... I have no idea. I think those two are awesome! I haven't played as Boomer yet, but he looks kind of adorable, and he has those really cool gauntlets. Voodood is, IMO, a blast to play. He has simple, but fast paced gameplay.

We are still missing Boomer, Whamshell, Dinorang, and Ghost Roaster. I believe we have at least one version of all the other characters. I'm excited for a LC Wham Shell. I would rather have fewer editions like that than 5 versions of one character, but I don't like not being able to find certain characters at a reasonable price. Wish we could get Boomer but not for $70+

I'd only be willing to buy Boomer for 5, maybe 10 bucks. I saw him go for 26 bucks somewhere. While THAT is considered a bargain, that's still too rich for my blood.

Ah, I didn't know about the Lightcores of those guys. I'm relatively new to this scene. I can hardly keep up with all the releases!

To me, Dino Rang seemed like a ridiculously awesome character design. I mean he's a freaking dinosaur with boomerangs. If you watch his video in SSA, how can you not want to run out and get him?

In any case, I don't mind when they only get a 1-series release because then it feels somehow more special when you use the retired Skylander in one of the new games.

I think that Dino-Rang "didn't sell well" initially because Activision had already distributed 3 other Earth element SSA characters (Prism Break, Terrafin, & Bash) before Dino-Rang hit the shelves in stores in late 2011.
I agree that Dino-Rang's design and in-game skills should have been recognized as awesome, but they probably should have cast him into another element somehow.
When one considers the general lameness of the original fire, air, tech, and life Skylanders, it stinks for Dino-Rang fans that he got grouped with 3 other generally popular characters in the Earth group.

I still think we'll see Dino-Rang return in a future Skylanders game release, but there's no guarantee on that. For now, Activision and its developer subcontractors seem to be in love with Flashwing and Terrafin, and in fairness, those are both really good playable characters (even though it really pains me to think that soon there will be even MORE Flashwings clogging-up the shelves/pegs and gathering dust in retail stores after SwapForce releases). *cringes*

Some characters I think the release because they want to not necceasarily what the fans want. We have so many versions of eruptor as example. And why did they release 3 types of chill, the legendary was cool but why did they need her as a lightcore especially since the legendary lit up, same with legendary trigger happy he came with the freakin first game he didn't need a single, especially when the legendary sold really badly.

I think some people see Boomer and Voodood and are like "Eww! I don't want THAT thing!" I was avoiding Voodood simply because I didn't really like his design. Once I decided to finally buy him, he became one of my favorites! Boomer simply annoyed me because he was always the only character the store had and I wanted all of the others. When I decided to finally buy Boomer, like a week before Giants, I didn't have any money. I came back a day later and the last Boomer was gone...

I've heard some people say they took out Ghost Roaster because he freaked out the younger players

Well, to be fair AR, the game is rated 10+, but no one seems to know, on account that THE MAIN AUDIENCE IS 6 YEAR OLDS! Why gear a game at 6 year olds when the game is rated 10+?
Rant aside, Here are my thoughts:
Dino Rang: As said above, A DINOSAUR WITH BOOMERANGS. What is not awesome about that?
Voodood: His design is a wee bit odd. If you can get past his face everything else is beast. Who else decides "Oh, I gotta go to work today. Let's wear a skull on my head!" Aside from GhostRoaster who doesnt count, he is a skull, the Cow Skull, the Axe, and everything else about him is awesome.
Boomer: Ok, he is ugly. But to me, the Uglyest characters are tipically the wackiest, and therefore most fun. Cause playing as a handsome mellow troll would be boring, They made him ugly and crazy. A crazily fun character, easily most unique out of all of the 8 tech cores. A dragon robot? Like it or not, done before. A drill bot? Dig Dug. A gremlin with guns? Never done before, but Boomer is better. A crafty girl with a wrench? Thats Ferb in girl form. A bomb in a robosuit? Never done before, but he looks a hecka lot like the bad guy from Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Some Steampunk thing? Boomer is better.
Sunburn: I just think he's cool. I put out all of my rant with Boomer.
Ghost Roaster: coolest of the 4 SSA's.

well they both have a face on a bomb and um they have something about them for hands? (Mr. Electric has electricity arm and tech hands while Countdown has rockets. )

Lucky I got boomer when I got SSA and I instantly fell in love! He is so cool and his craziness made him fun to play with and I think he is one of the most unique tech skylander.

I'm still looking for a Voodood but I am always drawn to the not as "good-looking" characters and his gameplay seems great to me.

I will definitely get whamshell and warnado.

And as for Dino-Rang he is probably my favorite earth skylanders and I don't even have him!!

I feel sad for all of the "guest star" skylanders. You'll be saying the same thing when #4 comes around and none of the Swap Force won't be re-released.

You may be forgotten but you are not gone, I'll still play their S1 figures in Swap Force.

I finally got around to fully upgrading Boomer on his explosives path, and he becomes really good. He's like a fully upgraded Bomberman (from the Bomberman series of games). You can run around dropping bombs behind you at a very rapid pace. I think the hate for him comes more from the fact that he's pretty ugly.

Also, Boomer drops a bomb when he double jumps on the 3DS version, which could be really awesome if he does that when he jumps in Swap Force!
