I don't know if this has been pointed out before but..... Here is a new bundle with Flocked Prism Break on Gamestops website. If you do all the stuff at regular price you are paying more than retail price for them. If you take into account Gamestops sale online on figures right now you are really getting ripped off. Here is the link. http://www.gamestop.com/collec...a-bundle/107755

I actually understand them recognizing the market value of these and trying to capitalize on it. My big beef is their communication and "bait and switch". At least here you know what you are getting.
For me, the snake oil salesman feeling came for me when I went in one day to buy a new game and got a game that was already open and fingerprints all over it. And I paid brand new prices for it. I of course returned it.

I get that but in this case most people already have those figures that come with it. So in reality for most people you are going to be paying 250 bucks for a figure. I just don't like the corporate policy of them removing from the boxes and bundling. That is really what makes me mad.

Yeah, I do not HATE Gamestop, but over the years they've had some questionable practices for how they designate a game as new. For example, I once got a "new" game there where they took out a loose disc from the drawer and stuck it in the display case and shrink wrapped it again. I'm not sure if they still do this, but they DEFINITELY used to. As far as Skylanders go, I don't care that much about their variants and if they charge too much for something, I will just buy it elsewhere. Let the market dictate what they can sell their stuff for. If the price is too outrageous then let it sit on the shelf. |

The problem I have with it is that they never get to the shelf. They are bundled and sold on-line. Which I think is a bad move. I wish they were like everyone else and just let them get to the store.

I agree that it's a bad move, but it's their merchandise to do with what they will. If it didn't work I'm sure they would stop it. Free will still exists and we can choose to buy the bundle...or not.

This is a problem with chase variants period. Gamestop just flaunts the flaw in the system more visibly. The chances of finding a chase variant as a normal collector are so astronomically small its disgusting. The chance of one reaching a store is small enough as it is, then you factor in the fact that employees at all major retailers are aware of their existence now and the probability of one making it to the shelf for a legitimate customer to purchase is almost non existant.
Chase variants should go away. They are a terrible idea and they only reward those that live off of the secondary market. The publishers of the game don't get anything out of the secondary sale and the legitimate fans/collectors of the game get screwed by the prices. I've said it before, start a monthly club with an exclusive figure and give everyone a chance, you can even charge a small premium for it. As it stands now, chase variants are nothing but a headache and fuel for scalpers and such. -Grishnaar |

The funny thing is, most people - including the "collectors" - only really care about the chase variant because it's rare. How many people have griped about GitD Cynder & Sonic Boom, Gold S2 Flameslinger, Blue Bash, and WERDS about how ugly and plain looking they are?
If Purple Eye Brawl was as common as regular Eye Brawl, many of those complaining would probably skip it just like they're claiming they're going to skip Pumpkin Eye Brawl. |

I hardly ever shop at GameStop anyway simply for the fact that you can beat their prices by going on Amazon and eBay. And many other stores have better deals as well such as Best Buy. GS doesn't price match, but BB does so even when GS has a sale, I just show it to them over at BB and get it there. GS pretty well sucks in the first place.

Gamestop is really treading sketchy ground here. Finding a chase at a Gamestop is pretty much impossible since they skim the boxes for the chase variants for this purpose. I'm sure this doesn't make TFB really happy. The whole point of chases is for customers to get "lucky" and find one. If they wanted them to be sold for a premium, they would just sell them for $250 themselves. Instead Gamestop is grabbing them, pairing them a bunch of old stock they are trying to dump, and profiting. Even if you charge full retail for every item in the bundle (which is ludicrous at this point), the Prism Break is still being priced at well over double the retail value.
In general, chase variants need to just go away. It isn't realistic to find one at all. I can understand it being difficult, for example, to find exactly the one you want. But most people will never see one at all, ever. Even the most dedicated Skylanders hunters have maybe seen one or maybe two. Collecting is about the hunt and finding a rare item or wheeling and dealing with other collectors, not about dumping a load of money to shortcut your way to the endzone. |

I suspect Activision removed them.

Lloyd, you're not going to find too many sympathizers for GameStop in this forum. In general, their marketing and advertising tactics are highly suspect when compared to the other national retail chain stores that sell Skylanders in the USA. Now, things may be different/better in Canada or elsewhere (guessing that you reside outside the USA since you called it "EBGames") ... that's possible. But between your "Infinity Sucks!" avatar and your "I LOVE Gamestop!" confession, you're just going to come off as a goofy fanboy here with little credibility. Let me guess ... Teenager?

I hate gamestop because for some reason they won't allow me to order through their website. They say my address does not match the address they verify for my credit card. I checked with both my amex and visa and they are identical to the one I enter on the site. Then I've called their customer service twice and both times they basically tell me I'm entering something wrong and that I'm SOL. It's funny that I can order from 30+ other sites fine but their buggy cc software won't allow me to order.
If it were my business, I'd want to solve the problem so I could get more sales, but obviously I'm the idiot.

If I were you I wouldn't be so happy until the moment when you actually get dark edition and pay only $70. I don't want to be a bad news messenger but I think that they will charge the full price or just get you regular edition if you refuse to pay full price. The worst news may be that they reserved and ordered regular edition for you. The wise move would be visit them in person (if you preordered it in store) and double check that they ordered the dark edition for you. Otherwise you might be very disappointed at the release day. |

Yeah, the pre-order is nothing more than a store credit that is applied and a reservation. The game will ring up $99.99. And Gamestops do not allow employees the flexibility for them to alter the price an employee told you in error two month prior, especially for a new release game that is highly desired.
BTW, the item on the receipt says "Skylanders SWAP Dark Ed*". If your receipt doesn't say that you have the regular edition pre-ordered. |

It all depends on what you are trading in, if you are trading in some game they have a ton of already, they don't need more stock (like last years or earlier sports games) - so take your dime or leave it. Honestly, if you are expecting them to give you decent money for games they probably won't be able to sell you simply don't understand how this works. I'm not a fan of Gamestop's trade in values, but you can do ok if you pay attention to their special offers. Even low value stuff can get a nice bump. Amazon and Best Buy both have decent trade in programs that can give good money for trade-ins and have special offers. And there is always EBay or Craigslist if the going rate for a trade in is below what you believe it is worth. |

You will pay full price. The pre-order is nothing more than a reservation credit. When they ring it up on the release date they just apply the credit. Do you see $74.99 anywhere on the receipt or is the only thing that says that a verbal comment from a potentially confused store employee? Whereas you might be able to successfully argue a case of "but the employee TOLD me this price" at Walmart or Target if you had some form of documentation and a manager that didn't want to deal with it, Gamestop isn't going to budge. They will just sell your Dark Starter to the next person if you do not like the price. That's how they roll, and the reason some people aren't very fond of them. |

They (GameStop) will not even honor the $10 coupon for Swap Force that came out of the Frito Lay chips from Activision. Or honor the $1 or $5 coupons for that matter. They surely will not honor an employees misunderstanding of what was pre-ordered, Good Luck getting Dark for the price of Regular Starter.

I would far rather see them do this than allow their employees to keep or portion off variants to their friends after opening the boxes. There are really big problems with variants actually making it to retailers, too. The whole thing is problematic, and really, there's no way to do it without someone (be it a company or an individual) doing something skeevy with the figures.

In this case you can try to pay $70 right now to complete payment transaction in their system and when the time comes - just pick up your dark edition which you have already paid for the "full price" and then really enjoy it for $75 One more thing - it is better try to make a payment when there will be the same girl who made a preorder for you - she probably remembers you and your initial conversation and the price. Good luck It would be nice to get dark edition for $25 less. |

People here have said the Wii dropped to $75, you were told $75, but other systems are $100 and OUR OWN WEBSITE says $100, even for the Wii... I'm really curious how this will end! LOL! It would be nice if you can get SOME record, some proof of the price you were told, it might help you get it for that price if they try to charge you the full $95.

Gamestop specifically doesn't do a Pre-order Price Guarantee, like Amazon does. Amazon will give you the lowest price the game is quoted at between the time you order and the time it ships if they have the guarantee on it. That's why they put big prices on things (they priced WiiU games at $100 before the retail prices were known). Gamestop leaves themselves room to wiggle, and it is why they don't put a final price on your receipt. Even if the employee told you wrong, they will still charge you what their system says when it comes out. She may have been right that the Wii one costs less in Canada, it's possible - not likely though. And Gamestop's policies/corporate are more restrictive concerning this sort of thing, they won't price adjust it because an hourly employee said something two months ago. Even if you had a video of her telling you that at best you would just get the employee in trouble. Even if you pushed it HARD you likely wouldn't get your way, calling that a verbal contract for something that isn't even out yet would be extremely stretching it. Sometimes it works out in your favor, like when the price drops, sometimes it doesn't like when they tell you a price and it goes up. |
