Hello! Did you know that there is a flagship character for every element? Flagship characters will always be reposed, be on the front of the box, and have merch about them like Books or Plushes. I do not know them all, but Let me tell you some, so that in S4 we all know who will be reposed.
Magic: Spyro. Obvious, his name is in the First game.
Tech: Trigger Happy. His popularity is only because he is in the starter pack for SSA.
Water: Gill Grunt. See above for reason.
Life: Stealth Elf. She has alot of variants, which brings me to...
Fire: Eruptor. 7 Flipping Variants. Count em: S1, S2, S3, Snow, Silver, Volcanic, and I cannot remeber the last one, but there is another. Acti also loves this guy.
Earth: Terrafin: Not 100% sure why this guy is the flagship, but he is.
Air: Whirlwind. I am not even sure if she is Flagship, but she has an S3 and is kinda the main airlander.
Undead: This one, I do not know. Cynder or Chop Chop, Cynder is A Spyro character and Chop Chip has a fair share of merch, so help me out on this one.
So there ya have it folks, the Flagship 8 that will be reposed and reposed and reposed. Look forward to S8: LOL WE ARE SO RICH SO FORGET COOL NAMES Trigger Happy!

Fine Trigger Fizz, but when Skylanders 4 comes out and Spyro, Trigger Happy, Gill Grunt, Stealth Elf, Eruptor, Terrafin, Whirlwind, and Chop Chop are reposed, We will see who's opinion was right...

I can see both Cynder and Chop Chop but mainly Cynder since she was in the Giants starter pack and is from the Legend series which is I think they are aiming for,so they can keep both classic and legend spyro fans.

Yeah, because I'm sure the 4th game will be the final one. The thread is saying they will always be reposed no matter what, and that's not true. The only ones that *might* get reposed every time are the 3 that came in the very first starter pack. Activision needs money...they're not going to repose certain characters for EVERY game. That would put them at a huge loss, as after a while, the characters who already have like, 10 other versions will NOT SELL. And I don't know what you're trying to say about who's opinion is correct...this has nothing to do with opinions. The first post pretty much says they'll reposed every time as if Activision confirmed it, which they did not.

I do think that there are flagship characters, but I do think some of them were made flagship characters (Gill, Spyro, etc) and some earned their place.
If you want to see who the "flagship" characters are for each element, you should be looking at the clothing, posters, lunch boxes, books and other items that they are trying to sell kids. Those characters you see are the ones that sell most, and they are the ones that will become de-facto leaders of their element.

Spyro, Trigger Happy and Gill Grunt are all obvious. As is Stealth Elf who (despite it being call Spyro's Adventure) was front and center on the box of the first game. Look at any merchandise and you'll see those four in droves.
Undead is Chop-chop. That dude is everywhere - and it's been stated that he's favorite.

Earth is interesting... Personally, I believe that they thought Bash would be the flagship character, but he never really took off. When Giants came around, I think they pushed Prism Break to the front - he's right there, 2nd in line on the Giant's cover. But regardless of the effort, it seems Terrafin seems to have pushed ahead. I'd argue that it was because he was hard to get in series 1, so the series 2 sold lots - but I think that
I totally think that Terrafin is the flagship earth character now, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't always planned to be that way.

Wind is also pretty interesting.... There was no standout S1 Wind character, but I think Whirlwind was planned to be the flagship character - she seems to have a good presence in the merchandise (early merchandise, anyway).
But I do think that when there Whirlwind failed to take off, Jet-Vac was brought in to replace Whirlwind as the lead wind character. He's the lead core-lander on the Giants box and has a much stronger merchandise presence than Whirlwind.

Lastly, fire. Erupter - no contest. And like Stealth Elf, Gill, etc - I think they planned it that way. BUT...
But I do think that Erupter is at risk of being replaced by Hotdog. Depending on how this generation goes, I could see Erupter being pushed out of that spot and Hotdog given the crown.

As for the future...
Spyro and Trigger Happy have no serious challenges coming up that I can see.
Gill could face a challenge from Washbuckler, but as Washbuckler is a 'non-core' figure I'm betting that he'll fade once SSF is done, just like Tree Rex challenged Stealth Elf during Giants.
But over-all I don't see any of the new corelanders displacing the current forerunners, but I do think that we may see Hotdog displace Erupter.
I also think that Trigger and Gill are ripe for challenge. Their presence in merchandise was to help push the starter kit, but they didn't earn their place like Stealth Elf or Terrafin did. I don't think Sprocket and Chill are serious contenders to replace them, but both Sprocket and Chill are back. If, for some reason, they proved more popular they could try ousting them.

IMO: Spyro, Gill Grunt, Trigger Happy, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Chop Chop, Whirlwind, Terrafin/Prism Break

Tree Rex (Of the Giants)

Jet-Vac (planned) / Hot Dog of giant newlanders.

Wash Buckler (of Swappers)

Hard to say who is Swap newlander yet.

Activision's president even stated there is the notion of flagship characters. We frankly have proof to back up his statements. So yeah, expect the "core" or "flagship" landers to make a re-appearance on every installment. It may not be certain ones always, but expect a number of them to be and for them to "mix it up".

Well, there are 3 other flagships: For Giants, Tree Rex, For Lightcore, Prism Break, and for Swappers, Wash Buckler. I know that there isnt another PB lightcore but I think Lightcores were designed with him in mind. and he is on the logo for lightcores.

Skylanders will never reach 10 because of the programming of over 100 characters now.

I think they will mix them up and favourites will be dropped occasionally and then brought back.

Just think Ghost Roaster and Stealth Elf, two popular characters.

Ghost Roaster's popularity I believe is due to his rarity (Boomer too). Why is he rare? I say it's a marketing trick - and a good one at that.

Stealth Elf is my fav, but she has become unpopular because she's everywhere, people are getting sick of her.

Now imagine if Stealth Elf is not reposed for game 4 and becomes unavailable, and then she returns in game 5, do you think she'll become popular again?

Don't forget people who have played the first 3 games may get tired of the series by game 4, but today's four year old children will only start playing at 5 or 6, and they will not have the old characters.

So I think if they want the game to continue they need to look at new customers and how to keep them interested. Why not cycle through old characters?

I understand your frustration because of her over exposure, but at least she is a good character to use. Most of the characters in the list I can understand but not Eruptor. He is sooooooo bad and I don't understand everyone's obsessions with him. If he was at least a good character then I would turn a blind eye but he is horrible.

yeah, i found it a stupid idea to give a s3 and not just straight one a "dark"variant, that would be so smart
and yes, stealth is a very big shelf warmer now, as game 4 comes out, she'll dissapear( see what i did there) and becomes rare, just like what happend to whamshell now......

While I look forward to new poses of Stealth Elf and Chop Chop each game and wish to get each one, I would like if they retired them for a game every now and again so that the other characters can catch up in series number.

It kind of bothers me that not every character is at the same series number and will likely never be.

If they absolutly have to have those characters return, they could do it as seriesless LightCores while having new series for older characters allowing them all to catch up to series 3.

I have 1 last question for everyone. There is a flagship for every category of Skylanders, except 1: Sidekicks. My question is: Who is the Flagship Sidekick?

IMO, there's isn't one. Seeing of how low publicity they get, any image showcasing one, showcases all 4 of said generation of sidekicks. Usually however, the flagships and a few popular ones if needed for filler and made into the sidekicks. This is why for Swapkicks I expect Wash Buckler, Blast Zone, Stink Bomb, and Magna Charge as some of the most likely candidates with Free Rager and Night Shift being on the possibility lsit as well, but a little less likely. Honestly, to me it was a bit unusal that Spyro and Eruptor didn't get Sidekicks, likely due to them not being able to do something clever with their names to make a sidekick form.

tl;dr They aren't considered important enough to have a flagship.

Good point. But for the Eruptor and Spyro thing, why not Miniruptor? I get Spyro, cause You cannot do much there, maybe Smallro...OMG! SMALLRO AND MINIRUPTOR! EUREKA!

AND THATS why i tend to dislike s1/s2 , just, s3/dark is SO much better
