Lol me too I feel bad for anyone in my area looking for gnarly went to the GameStop I picked mine up at and saw a guy buying all they had left which was 5. The I go to the Walmart in the same shopping center to pick up my daughters last school supplies and he was there too only this time he bought all that Walmart had 13 I was behind him at the checkout and overheard his phone conversation, it went something along the lines of " man I bought all they had let's get these things on eBay we can make 40 off each one" I was disgusted because there was a child behind me asking his mom for one. I felt so bad I told the kids parent to follow me back to my apartment and I gave him the one I purchased yesterday for free I don't think I've ever seen a kid happier.

I'm wondering what everybody's definition of a scalper is?
Is it someone who sells an extra figure they have at a profit?
Is it someone who buys multiple of a figure for the purposes of reselling at profit?
I ask because I read things here that conflict sometimes and it points out that we all have different definitions for "scalper."

Well to me a scalper is in it for just profit and taking advantage of something that's popular like game systems or certain toys etc.

Scalper's usually buy tons of extras to lower the ammount of say GTR in an area.
Then wait for a value boost so they can get more cash then what they paid for.

A scalper is usually a reseller of normally hard to get items, such as tickets, limited edition items, and, of course, toys.

They normally go to stores, pick shelves clean of hard to find items, and resell them for a high profit.
While many collectors find this unfair, people that do it are commonly low on money, but of course, there are many greedy ones, trying to resell items for 5x the price and up just to make a ton of money.

Yeah, people who empty shelves purely for the purpose of profit.

The reason this annoys me so much is as mentioned here, there are children who are only trying to get a toy. I don't think the scalpers who do this can have children, they must be lonely bitter men who hate youth.

There is no way I could do that to a child. In fact, when I bought my Molten Hot Dog I had the change to buy up the whole stock and make massive profits on eBay, they had like 30 or more with no "per customer" limit.

I almost certainly could have made a lot of money. Did I do it?

No. Because I am not evil. Yeah, the money would be nice, but it's basically stealing from children.

Mage0069, while I love you for what you did and wish there were more people in the world like you... Please be careful about asking kids to follow you home and offering them toys ! (I'm joking of course, but things could so easily have gone bad for you) What a sick world we live in eh. Reward the evil scalpers and punish those with good hearts.

I've never seen anybody buying up a whole shelf of figures and certainly never had a kid nearby who I saw failing to get one. If I was in that situation I would probably just kick the guy in the balls and take one to give to the kid to buy.

See... it is a fine line. Someone who will go and buy all of X figure and sell them for 40 bucks is a scalper. (That Goldbashhammer guy for instance.) I will admist I have put a few figures up on ebay before. Only after my wife and I have bought the same figure and instead of wasting time and taking it back without the receipt it is just easier to do it that way.

People tend to get all bent out of shape because of scalpers (I used to.) However, just know in the end that they will not end up making a lot of money off of it by the end of everything. Odds are he will not it for 40 bucks a pop. People who wanted these already got them because they didn't think it would be coming out as a single.

Don't kid yourself. The people who do this are making a lot of money or they wouldn't do it.
Success will only fuel their greed and make them do it to more toys.

Greedy, selfish evil ****ers.

Agreed Bazinga. I have sold some and will likely again. I tried to buy a US peg Zap 2x and got EU both times and one was opened avd out back together. So I sold those--with honest descriptions--and at same prices I paid. I have sold some things as a profit but not much. I have never stocked up on a figure to resell for large profits. I don't think that if you are in a lower income bracket that it makes it okay. I'm a person who buys from eBay a lot. I wish I didn't have to. I don't mind moderate price increases because at times it's worth it because I don't have to drive around etc. It's a bummer when we are talking lots of money. Is it ever going to end...of course not. I wish there was a better way for the toys to be distributed---and thus a better way for fans/collectors to acquire what they want.

Same.
I admit; I am a bit of a scalper. I have several figures I'm waiting to sell.
Why? I'm low on money for buying variants, and I owe my mom about $300 as of now.

You are right pryo had it been just myself it would have looked bad lol. But I had my 5 year old daughter with me as we'll as my wife and mother in law and I made sure to thoroughly explain it to the parents. Tbh I can't take full credit as my daughter had the notion to offer the toy up since she has one already ( regular tree Rex). As a parent to watch it unfold I was very proud of her

Mage0069, Sounds like some good parenting and a lovely kid smilie

Matteomax, If you are a collector and need money, selling the odd figure here and there is fine.

Nobody expects people to never sell their figures.

The line is drawn when you have
1) No interest in the item itself, only the money
2) Buy up EVERY SINGLE ONE you can get your hands on leaving NONE for others to buy at normal price.

Buy 2 so you can help offset your collecting costs? I am fine with that.
Buy then ALL just to sell? Scalper.

Mage0069--that's so wonderful--to see your kiddo doing the right thing. We teach our kids all this stuff, it's nice to see them put it into action without prompting. Kudos.

Making money? Sure. A lot of money? Doubt it.

Let's say Gnarly is 15.00, throw in Tax you are looking at 16ish. Gas for store hopping to buy all of these. Little hard to figure out as not sure living situation but, we will say 17 after gas. Ebay Fees..... you are looking at about another dollar. So 18 bucks right there at least. Let's say guy gives free shipping.... 21 Dollars now. Most Tree Rex's are going for 20-24 dollars. So, he would be making maybe 3 bucks off of these. Plus you take off Paypal fees if he has them sent to his bank account.

People do not make a lot of money off of these transactions. Keep in mind the numbers I ran were just estimates but, it shows that he is not making money hand over fist for it.

That's what's so hilarious...I'm guessing the folks complaining the most are the ones that are touting their "cheap" finds to sell their wares on eBay.
