Why do/did you?

I, myself, find them to be irrelevant when trying to gain respect >.>

One thing that annoys me about ranks is sometimes when Im joking people take me seriously
EX: In an older topic I ask who 'site' is. Clearly I know what it meant but 2 People took me seriously

Someone should be judged for their personality and character, not the amount of gems they have.

Not at all.

Before some users began claiming about the Sparx rank, I never thought of the rank as a respect level back in 2007.

The only exception in my books is alicecarp, I mean c'mon, she's the one and only Platinum Sparx. ._.

Okay, let me rephrase my question a little bit...what value do you put on gems or certain Sparx ranks, and why do you?

Respect has nothing to do with rank or gems. Respect should be given but rarely is. The users that have been here for awhile normally would help the newer users, thus showing respect. The newer users should show respect, sometimes they do sometimes they don't. I know I have respect for others and in return I get respect.

Respect is earned, not given.

Though I have visited some forums, I think Spyro forums was one of them, where the way you are treated depends on your rank.

Everybody is respected here right? (At least I hope so >.<)

A rank won't gain you respect, good attitude will.

But what respect is and how it should be earned is not the question. I'm asking people who have ever thought this way or still do, hopefully without alienating this "thinking as bad", because I want to hear what they think.

And I'm willing to at least suspect that some of you used to value gems, anyways, or still value them in some way.

I'm not sure it really matters, but I still see Red Sparx's as n00bs.

I never did. But some users who are becoming blue and yellow, seem to think they are superior to others.

Actually, now that I'm noticing most of the trolls have pretty high gem numbers, I'm now more partial to people who have pretty low numbers.

I used to think rank equaled respect. But, then I realized it's how mature the user acts.

I'm going with odds. Trolls with high numbers have had time to acclimate and spread their roots, sort of like a well established gang. Meanwhile, the newer trolls aren't as used to the atmosphere, and use rookie tactics. But both trolls fail to dip into the purest form of trolling, the holy grail of ways to piss off people: Not trolling at all.

Let's suppose I've never met them.

People that are red, I don't expect much. Just new people that will probably not last long. I have no thought on their personalities until seeing a post.

People that are green are not usually the best. They're kinda "proud" I themselves. Most of the greens I've seen, of course it doesn't mean all. The majority start to think they are a big deal.

People that are blue. I feel that they'll be kind of quiet by now. Only talk when they feel they have something to add. Sometimes they'll get ahead of themselves and embarrass themselves.

Yellows are usually females from what I have notice. Not that that has anything to do with this, but what the heck. Most yellows I've seen are usually females(if what they say is true). Same with every rank after yellow. Anyways, yellows start to get loud, but with less random. Feel less threatened by others.

Gold. Meh, they're basically "I'm hanging in here". Quiet and....idk. Hardly see any gold.

Emerald. Usually quiet but with more to say. I notice many get the urge to "correct" people. They just check on things, basically.

Platinum. Eh... :/

This is what I find is the majority. Don't make this a fact =~=

Why do I see it this way?
From observing. I guess.

Always because I worry about everything, especially high ranked users. They scare me because they know so much more and probably have the most friends and respect, so I wouldn't want to get on their bad side, because that'd be like getting on everyone's bad side...

The irony is quite thick with th-*suffocated*

With that in mind, when this site was much smaller in 2006/2007/early 08 people were very close to each other in gem count, so Sparx ranks were nothing more than celebrations of milestones. Now that I'm a bit older, I am fully of the opinion the gems should be tossed aside completely and either join date, member number, number of posts, or a combination should go in place of the gems and Sparx rank. <.<

I think it doesn't matter which Sparx rank you are, but I did worry a bit of what people thought of me while I was a Red Sparx *~*

I can tell the difference. I realize some of their posts are sarcasm, others are run-of-the-mill trolling.

Either way, it's best to let these people run their course, steer clear of them, and not respond.
