Humans-er, I mean we wouldn't be damaging every aspect of the planet that could prove very useful if conquered.....
In all seriousness, we the world would be better off without us as the world happened to run perfectly fine until we showed up after the dinosaurs..... |

True, without humans many of the extinct species would still exist.

Reminds me of a song from In Flames.
"When all is said and done We'll know what's right what's wrong But does it matter then when all is said and done? When all is dead and gone We know who lost who won But does it matter then when all is dead and gone? See everything go End of all things The life that we know Shift your point of view You've been warned This one way ticket is for you..." Anyway, we can't say that nature will fare "better" if we're gone, since we can't really measure the well-being of nature. It's just a way we humans like to understand things. Nature always runs on it's natural course, it's the very definition of nature. Even if we interfere, aren't we a part of it too? |

Look, I'm all for helping the environment, but my god, do you seriously HAVE to hate your own race? Humans aren't all bad. Yes, we do cause a lot of damage, but we're not useless. And yes, we've caused a lot of damage, but who's to say that we can't figure out ways to UNDO our damage? And you value the lives of extinct species over that of all your family and friends? That's crazy.
I know it sometimes seems like we're bad, yes, but if we put our heads together and work, we can repair it. We have to join forces and decide that we're going to make this world a better place for ourselves, our children, our children's children and their children. We need to put aside our petty differences and realize that we all play an equal part in taking care of ourselves and the planet. I know that if we all work together, we can do it. Let's get to work. |

I think what DummyZ meant is that if humans and other animals never evolved, then dinosaurs wouldn't have died out, which isn't necessarily true. Also Baro, the meteor caused a chain reaction which led to climatic weather patterns and chemicals in the atmosphere and whatnot. That's really what killed the dinosaurs, the meteor only took out a small percentage of them. |

And how do you propose we 'fix' things? Mass suicide?
And yes, let's ignore the good things humans have done, and focus solely on the bad. And say if every single human, no matter how good, died, everything would be better. Yes. Makes perfect sense. |

1) umm no :/ humans are a very rare animal, to our knowledge we are the only animals that achieved sentient thought. to kill ourselves would be a slap to the face of 3.5 billion years of evolution. 2 i'm not solely looking at the bad side of humanity, i'm looking at the collective of humanity. and the collective of humanity, is not treating that planet that well :/ for example... last week i planted 100 trees. but in the same area, loggers are cutting down 10,000 trees. even tho if i helped the environment, there is still a loss of 9,900 trees. and you guys are seeing this all wrong, it's not like we throw in the towel and give up. i'll give you that same example.... if my population of my small town planted 10 trees than the 10,000 that got cut down would be replaced by 30,640 thus a gain of 20640 do you understand it now :/ |

Almost everything in this thread...my god, people. I get tired of people saying "I hate everyone", sure, but really...why were we so quick to jump onto aran's back?
I'm pretty sure he more so means if we dropped off the planet right now, not what we could do or are capable of. We are degrading the planet as our population grows and grows out of control, our resources will not last and we devour things that are nearly irreplaceable. Of course, any beings in any organized way can do great harm and great good, this is what history has told us and what recent keeps telling us. The whole "humans need to be here to replant trees so you're contradicting yourself" point is hardly a good point. The earth would take itself over after humans are theoretically gone, we have not scarred the world beyond repair in such an aspect that trees can't reproduce and that plant life cannot strive. If we all just dropped dead, our corpses happen to be great nutrients and fertilizers as well, and will aid in growth. Of course, the lack of humans would also cause drastic shifts, likely in certain weather patterns and so forth, or perhaps we don't actually have as much of an influence than we think...and even with nuclear plants going off under lack of maintenance, and drastic apocalyptic changes could occur...life adapts, which is what history has also taught us. Humans have definitely adapted, however, ignorant in the beginnings and thus we adapted for our species instead of the planet we live on for most part. Our "pets" would die or find some sort of way to survive, but since there are so many creatures that are so dependant on us and all... Something else, although, may come to the top of the food chain and may achieve equal destruction. It's not like the world would be "paradise" without us...it never has been. Of course, this is all opinion on most part and much like predicting the weather by eye in this thread, by looking at the sky you can say it might rain, but with only this look you could also say it might storm, hail or thunder, and some may say it has an equal chance for more than the other or equally. You can mix science, facts and so forth within - but remember there will always be people who will find any way to optimist and chop down the other forces with it with, as well as the same way around. The future remains variable, although - I believe in people, and of course I believe their ability to do good - no, their ability to achieve excellency and understanding with little harm to others, but it seems most of us need a huge kick in the face or push in the right directions. Hear about the plans to "plunder the arctic" of resources? Yeah... |
