I am so done with Skylanders. [CLOSED]

Well I'll play the part of Devil's advocate here and say to at least wait for the game to release before making a judgement. We dont know how long these chapters are. Yes, there are only 12, but what if they are three times as long as the missions from before? We have new chapters with the new adventure packs. Do we have an official word on what affect the original 4 adventure packs will do with the new game? Also what do the bonus missions entail that we can apparently unlock in the chapters? Battle Packs again imply the return of the arena again. This could be expanded even more. Also maybe we'll have ALL the character able to unlock heroic challenges this time around.

There is certainly the potential for more to be there. I'm at least willing to wait and see what happens before I make a final judgement call.

Yep--I'm definitely withholding "final judgement" until all of the cards are on the table--but if I have to play the cards that have been given so far-I would fold.

I don't understand why people feel like they have to buy all the figures to play the game >.>

Sure some of the areas need special characters but the most you would have to buy is like 6 more swap characters if you wanted all the hats and bonus missions.

EXACTLY! I only get the ones I want, or need to complete something.

No duplicates unless something weird happens, and I need another. It's just a way to save money.

Im guessing your not a collector that's why you don't understand, it's not even about buying all the figures to play the game, its call completing a collections. I don't force myself to buy all of it, its because i want to.

what need to be done is this...

16 new skylanders a year max and no more!
add all heroic challenges/wow pow upgrades to be bough ingame with the coins you find in the game(now moneybag would have a real purpose)
24 chapters for each new skylanders game
4 adventure packs with level piece, extra power/battle piece and new figure, 12 chapters in each packs
online co-op game for 2 players
online battle mode for 2-4 players
online survival mode for 2-4 players

if not this done disney infinity are gonna kick skylanders franchises butt...

We only had 24 chapters in one game, you can't say it's the gold standard.

It's called a new level, therefore, not 12 news levels, also SSF has 12 chapters.

So, call it by the name Battle Arena.

Disney Infinity will sell like crap, you'll see.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people enjoy spending a hundred bucks on a bunch of plastic toys (guilty), where some people are fine with the ones they start out with. Most of the time, only one Skylander is required to actually play through the game.

Personally there should be no less than 15 AT BARE MINIMUM. 12 from 16 is an insult. I'm hoping the game is 12 chapters because the adventure pack is at least 2-3 chapters. If not, no money for you! (Activision) Even then...they're making us pay for content we got FOR LESS MONEY in previous releases. Still mulling it over.

Nah, that even had a sequel. Valyrie Profile? Nope. Valkyria Chronicles? 3 games for that one, too. Ah, Smash Bros. Wait a tic. Hmm, I am running out of options here. Elder Scrolls? Crap, not that one, either.

You know, even a game has a sequel coming that shouldn't exist. That game is Bayonetta. It obviously flopped so hard (cause gamers these days have no taste for good games), that SEGA passed on publishing a sequel, so Nintendo scooped it up. Even that game has a sequel.

Point is, everything can and will be done to death. Who does the milking well, however, will continue to get my money. Just wait until Disney Infinity is milked to death. The game has nothing going for it, when it comes to unique styles of gameplay. As I've stated before, Disney will never allow something like Disney Swap Force to exist. That's right. You won't be seeing Dartherine in future installments. No Snow Lightyear or Mickey Duck. They're going to play by the book, which makes its potential milking full of failure... unless one is a diehard Disney fan and has to have the toys, in which I can get a Snow White toy from the Disney Store at this very moment. I don't have to wait for one that will come to life in a Snow White world only, while only being able to be used outside of that world, in a glorified Little Big Planet/Minecraft create-a-thon. I'm surely not looking to waste my life making levels for others to enjoy, while not getting paid for it. Life's too short for that kind of noise.

Again, though, what hasn't been milked yet? Name it, and I bet it will.



Could you please explain this to me? They add 100 and 100+ Pokemon each generation, with all new attacks, types, and Pokemon! They are all unique in some way! and they even have 18 Types! vs. Skylanders reposes that just get one new (sometimes, but not always) lame power! And every franchise introduces a Gimmick. Pokemon is fresh and new in each game, except, the difference is that Pokemon blends all the gens through the national Dex. It's like the Hellinistic culture! Blended together from other cultures that have been made by GF. I'm sorry if i was harsh or somewhat incorrect but these are my thoughts and I hope youll respect them.
(Also, what was that vid kap posted on the first page. Also, I agree with everything up their except Mario and Pokemon. And I just kinda like Mario for Mariokart and Bowsers Inside Story)

Here, to best sum it up, I will do it like this.

First, let me say that I love Pokemon, and I will buy both X and Y, just like I have both of every game before. However, I never hold bias towards any franchise, even the one I am considered to be a mega fan of (Skylanders). I can criticize every game I love, even my top favorite games of all time. I don't let bias cloud my judgment.

Anyhow, let me tell you how Pokemon X and Y are going to start. This shows that not only do they milk the franchise, but they all play the same way for the most part.

Here's how Pokemon X and Y will start, and I haven't even played it yet.

1: Trainer starts off in town.
2: Trainer happens upon an event that leads him to getting a starter Pokemon.
3: Trainer is told by his rival he is going to compete in the Elite 4. Yeah, there will be an Elite 4................. again.
4: Trainer is asked by the local professor to keep the Pokemon and help him fill out the Pokedex.
5: Trainer sets off, and in the process, runs into numerous obstacles of people standing cluelessly on roads leading to the next area. They will try and battle you................. again.

Hasn't changed. Blue, Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, and finally X and Y. All plays out the same.

Now, milked also comes from the endless amount of Pokemon games. Whether it's crap like Snap, Mystery Dungeons, Rangers, Rumble, and all of the other games I can't think of, there are simply so many.

There is no franchise out there right now that isn't milked or in the process of being milked. Witcher is getting its 3rd game, Forza, Fifa, NBA 2K, Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Halo, Gears of War, God of War, Killzone, Wii Fit, Dragon Quest, Mega Man, Resident Evil, and I could keep going and going.

I love a lot of those franchises, but milking is milking. I won't be biased and pretend none of them are, just to justify my reasons for buying rehash. Skylanders will get there too, but I don't mind. You're talking to someone who plans on displaying all 256 combinations of Swaplanders, on top of buying 3 (not buying for kids this time as they only play until they beat each game, which only takes a day or two) of every Adventure Pack, Battle Pack, Legendaries, etc.

Disney Infinity, while super sucky, will have its fanbase, which allows for milking as well. Only its milking will come with total suckage, due to Disney playing by the rules, thus they can't innovate with that game, like Skylanders can.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the Black/White era of games were not as good as gens 3 or 4. I don't think I'll ever get over how they basically striped Pokemon of everything that wasn't battling and exploring, and made the very few things Black and White DOES have otherwise, like berry growing and decorating a secret base, online only content that apparently everyone but me can access.

Also, Pokemon World Tournament is a sufficable at best alternative to the Battle Frontier of Emerald and Platinum. I hope X and Y aren't like this too.

I was just watching this thread hoping it wouldn't derail into this,but seriously? Gen V was downgrading the series? Too many spinoffs? You guys should know when to use bias,because it's wrong. Of course,half the fandom forgot that BW and B2W2 have a storyline that finally remembered everyone of how Pokémon is a JRPG, but somehow glossed over PokeStudios,Join Avenue and all the other cool stuff that can be done aside from battling.Sure,no more contests,but weren't the fans up in arms when THAT was the big non-battling thing?
If you guys want a twist from the normal Pokémon storyline,which whenever they change ONE thing has the fandom break into fighting, you can always go to the spinoffs like PokéPark or Mystery Dungeon,there you can find your twist and all the things the maingames won't ever go to.
Just please don't say GF shamelessly milks Pokémon and never changes anything.Just don't,because I don't want to bring up all the N stuff to a board full of kids.

This the main advantage Skylanders has over Infinity...but otoh instant brand recognition and Disney zealots will vote with their dollars towards the franchise. IMO this skylanders game will be the first to test our loyalty--especially if the content is lacking. Not a good situation where one will invariably seem "fresh" (although constrained by the IP) while the other will seem "more of the same" (with fresh new ideas and no holds barred on characters).
