okay, so im about to send an email about the swapforce game to... thats the problem... do i send it to activision? or toys for bob? or someone else? i need help! thanks!

Sorry to say, but a company legally can't take your idea, even if you offer it to them, due to legal rights and you could still sue them if they used it, even if you gave them the okay.

I think that the only way you could give them your idea and for them to legally use it, is if you worked for them or sold it to them, and signed legal documents about its rights of use.


I know this from personal experience.

Edit: I still think that Hot Dog was inspired by my fan-made Skylander named Furire and it was nicknamed Hot Dog. I posted it on these forums and won a fan-character contest on here. This was all before Giants was even announced...but I guess it was just a coincidence =).

I think that it was just a coincidence about my character. I can't sue or ask money for it since I designed it as a Skylander and I don't own the Skylanders franchise, so if anyone could be sued or charged, it would be me..unfortunately, that's how legal rights work.

Edit: Yeah, please don't close the topic because of me, I was just telling you what I know about the matter and it wasn't meant to be rude or a conclusion =).

oh, and @opal osprey... ya the vathek thing is true! i remeber reading in the skylanders forum , i cant remeber where but its true... a guy sent activision the email i believe about his made up character vathek, and activision decided to use him as a npc instead of a character...

Sadly as has been mentioned already most these companies are going to see any sort of email "proposing ideas" and instantly trash it, no matter how good the idea might be. Legally its a nightmare for such things. Outside of being a professional of some sort in the industry coming to them or winning a contest thats actually designed to take in outside ideas its probably going to be a letter that gets cast into the internet void.

If you want to try to get somewhere, I would try to emailing I-Wei (if he's still the main concept artist for Skylanders).
