Thought this auction may be of interest to some of you who are interested in the rarer Skylanders. These don't come up on eBay very often, the seller is correct in that it's only been on eBay a few times in 2 yrs.
*Sigh* and yes, as my signature suggests... I'm still looking for E3 Gilly.

Nothing on eBay surprises me anymore... not even if it sells for that amount!
Having seen someone shell out $1600 for the first Holiday Employee Prism Break, anything is possible!

Is it scapling since you can't really buy it and is truely a collectors item. I agree it's definitely over priced but is it technically a scalp

That would be a question for gamemaster, I honestly have no clue the "fair" price. Its for sure over priced but to me it would defintely be more than a chase variant and more than metalic cynder and pearl hex since I am assuming less of the trigger happy were made

Obviously the old adage is true... it's worth whatever someone will actually pay for it.
I have discussed this topic in length with many members on this forum (GM78 included) and everyone has their opinions. GM78 dislikes the appearance of these and therefore has a lower opinion of their value, then someone like me for example. I have been on record on saying that I've been offered $1000 for mine. This comes from a "die hard" collector who recognizes the extreme rarity of these 2011 E3's and therefore that's what it's worth to him. Matteomax has his opinion and what his budget can afford as does everyone else... Bottom line... the fact is this is THE Holy Grail of Skylanders and it just may be worth what the seller is asking... who knows? Personally, I think it's great to see it in auction form (albeit with a reserve) so that we can get an idea of how much people will pay. I keep a pretty strong eye out for these and you just don't see them come up for auction.

I would definitely say this is NOT scalping! This is not something you can find anywhere, except a select few of individuals. If you thought chase variants were next to impossible to find in store, these are like looking for lost treasure.. without a map!

Ultimately, this thing is going to go for what it's worth. It's not any of our place to assign value to it. The end value is the final value of the auction, and that's all.

While I agree our opinions are just that and ultimately the auction will do what it was meant to, I created the topic so that; 1. Serious collectors who are looking for this will be made aware 2. To have a discussion about these figures in particular. Most people don't know much about it, if at all, thus it seems useful to heed opinions about it... of course with that comes varying thoughts on value.

I think sharing with the forum that this is available--for purposes of making people aware--is totally appropriate. I appreciate it. I wasn't trying to cause any issues by asking about people's price opinions. I was just wondering what people really thought--given each individuals experience. I see the value in it for collectors--(clearly-lol)
Thanks--Shelly

I think it's funny that Trigger Happy is probably the most common Skylander overall. He can be bought for less than $2 on Ebay auctions. And yet here's the same exact figure, just with unique packaging, and it's expected to sell for over $400.
That's some REALLY expensive cardboard and cheap clear plastic. I absolutely LOVE the Skylanders franchise, and I think collecting is a fun hobby that many people should try. But really .... if someone buys this item off Ebay for several hundred dollars, that's sad. Being able to draw the line between avid collector and obsessed profligate is important, I think.

Overall, I hear what you're saying... if you step back and think about it, it's just plastic and cardboard with some paint and ink thrown in. The vast majority of people will scoff at it's eyebrow raising price. As my title suggests, this is NOT for the casual bargain hunting collector. It's value is NOT found in the character itself, rather the rarity of the item as a whole. To be fair, the seller mentions that the RFID chip within was programmed very early on and is not compatible with normal portals making it unique and rare. On the flip side of the coin, one can argue... great, you mean this thing won't even work if I wanted to play with it!? Again, to each his own... but I've always known that this unique piece is for the diehards and OCD's out there who value such rare items. The funny thing is, when you begin to look at other maturer toy lines that have rarer items, Skylander prices are like a drop in the bucket in comparison (however I will say that for a 2 year old franchise, the prices have certainly exceeded any of the wildest expectations that could have been imagined).

Being an OCD collector, I totally get the history / perspective on owning this piece of history...it's like why do folks spend $100k+ for a .12 Amazing Spider-man from 1963 when I can download it for $3 on Comixology...it's collector vs utilitarian...and my pragmatic side understands what's reasonable and what's not---again this changes for someone making $20k a year vs someone making $200k a year. Everything has a market, and what you might think is reasonable may not be for someone else. Live and let live and let those that choose to enjoy it do so. My perspective---it's a fantastic piece of history and I'd love to have these things but realistically it's not the best choice for me or my family.

The market has bottomed out on the Employee prism breaks. Also, I think there are more Employee Prism Breaks then the E3 that the seller on ebay is trying to get rid off. From the articles I have read, it states somewhere between 200-600 of each figure. Most of which were opened at that E3.
