I'm not sure, but I was kinda hoping we could use the portal we had since SSA in Swap Force...

As I'm sure you've seen - the SSA portal won't work in Swap Force and the SSA portal can't use the tech in the new figures.
I hope the SSF portal works for SSA/SG, because I don't want two of those damn things plugged in all the time.

Considering the only reason for the existence of the new portal is for the added on Swap Force technology, it's pretty safe to assume that it will work with the previous installments.

it would be pretty silly if you couldn't do that...

I'd guess that the SF portal would work with SA/G too, but as this is the first game by someone other than Toys For Bob I'm not going to assume anything until there's an offical source.

Now that I think about it I think the 2013 portal won't work with SSA and giants because its a must use portal and it has enough memory to save data from the top half of swap force figures.

If the Portal doesn't work with the first two games, I am going to be incredibly annoyed, since I planned to get a copy of Infinity to use when my cousin shares her figures with me and would like to have both games' platforms plugged in at the same time. I won't put in the effort to have both Portals plugged in at the same time- in fact, I'm already starting to run out of space for them with the console one, the 3DS one, and Bluetooth one- if I can't replace them and need to store the ones and the Infinity bases as well... That's already seven spots that I have to keep readily available, just come on. It baffles me how USB ports are still standardised at two slots- I always end up requiring more.

They do make a thing like those outlet extenders that add extra outlets for your outlets for USBs. I actually have one. It turned 2 standard outlets into 1 standard and an extra 4. These things should be kinda cheap.

I don't have the source, but I may have recalled some chit chat with some of the ActiDudes about it being backwards compatible. On a side note---if this is the case...Activision has to REALLY think about packaging their first two games without portals for the newcomers.

They should, otherwise they'll get some bad feedback about their SSA and SG portals not working in Swap-Force.

I just bought Skylanders Swap Force Xbox 360. The new portal can work with Xbox Skylanders Giants and Skylanders first game.

If you need an official confirmation from Activision there is a link below

Peace out.

why dont any of you just try it instead of arguing about it. its not that hard to put in the old games and see for yourself that it works.

At the time this topic was made Swap force was not out, that's why no one tested it.

Why can't some people just read a bit. This thread was revived after a 4 month hiatus. So the arguing was from way back before people could just "try it."

Also, all the new figures read fine on the old portal. I have tested this in my app and it works fine.
Either half can read, the whole swapper can read and the blue base non-swappers can read fine.

I believe the original firmware could only deal with 4 items on a portal at a time. 2 Figures and 2 items.
Obviously, with Swap Force they needed to double that to 8.

I got Swap Force on xbox and don't have Giants or SSA on xbox (got them on Wii) so no way to test if the old portals actually DO work on SF, but I suspect there is a chance. Worth trying.
