Where do you NZ people look? [CLOSED]

I'm wondering where you New Zealand people look for figs. I usually look at The Warehouse or Mighty Ape.

There are a surprising number of New Zealanders here, which is kinda nice.

I live in Wellington and work in the CBD, so I can check JB Hi-Fi, EBGames and Dick Smiths (x2) if I’m so inclined. Obviously Mighty Ape is easy enough to check too, given it’s an online retailer.

Of the above, JB Hi-Fi has both the widest range and the best prices. However because it has the best prices, slightly rarer figures tend to sell out from there very quickly.
They get in the newer figures semi-regularly and interestingly they have a few older figures from Spyro's Adventure, like Dino-rang and the Ice/Dragon/Pirate adventure packs. However they almost never have older S2 figures (unless they’re peg-warmers, like Swarm)

Dick Smiths on Featherston Street has a lousy selection, but the Cuba St one has a pretty nice range – also (kinda strangely) they seem to get figures before any of the others. It might just be that they ignore all the release dates – I got a Thumpback from them before Thumpback was even in their system.
The thing that worries me about DSE is that their online page is listing almost no figures and the figures it is listing are marked ‘clareance’ – they are down from over 100 listings, to less than thirty. I’m worried they are getting out of Skylanders altogether (actually, their gaming sections have been shrinking across all their stores). That’s a shame, because their site was awesome for finding stores that had older S2 figures (for example, just two weeks ago it helped me track a S2 Hex and a S2 Flameslinger).
I just hope they are clearing room for the next wave and/or Swap Force, not dropping the franchise.

Lastly, EB Games has a pretty rubbish selection AND they are the slowest of any store to get newer waves in. I’m tempted to suggest they only carry overstocked figures from the Australian branches. They still haven’t gotten Thumpback or Eye Brawl in, for example. Or the Zap/Hot Dog pack you can get from Dick Smiths and/or JB Hi-Fi.
The only reason I even visit them at all is that they sometimes get figures traded in.

I’ve checked Harvey Norman a few times, but they’ve never seemed to ever have anything that wasn’t in all the other stores.
And obviously with Bond & Bond closing down you might get a few bargains from there.

And one last side note on Mighty Ape – obviously, they have an okay range and they often have good sales, however they have a terrible track record of keeping stuff in stock (Thumpback, Eye Brawl and Character Shroomboom have 3-week waits on them) and Dick Smiths/JB Hi-Fi often seem to have new figures in long before Might Ape does.

The Warehouse is the one place I never check – the few times I visited the Wellington/Paraparaumu stores they seemed to have a small and slightly out of date range (a lot of Crusher), If you see anything great there (S2 Wreaking Ball, S2 Spyro, Ninjini) be sure to let us know.

Speaking of which S2 Spyro, the stand alone Hot Dog and S2 Wreaking Ball have popped up for Preorder on Mighty Ape, with a due date of 12/4/13.
Might have to go for a walk next monday and see if they've appeared in stores.

I got my Scorpion Striker pack at JB HI FI the first time I saw it, but then I checked Mighty Ape and they had it, I thought it was only at JB lol.

And The Warehouse is starting to get the Mega Bloks in too.

Pretty sure the Wellington JB had the Scorpion Striker pack a day or three before Mighty Ape.... but, yeah. It was about the same time.

The Hot Dog/Zap Catapult pack has been out for ages. Mighty Ape, DSE, JB, EB all have it.
JB Hi FI is the only place I've seen with Spyro S2, Wreakingball S2 and Hotdog singles.
No photos from in-store, but I, you know, brought all of them - so I could take photos if you wanted.

You in Wellington, Hot Dog? If so then JB sure sold out of those fast!
I wonder if I can pre-order ninjini?

Side note: S2 Wreaking Ball is kinda awesome, right?
Too bad Giants nerfed him - in SSA he can nail whole groups with his tongue in a single shot.

Yeah - I did a deal with a chap on trademe and got Ninjini, Whamshell and Boomer. Cost $120nzd - but considering what those three are selling for by themselves it was an okay deal. Also managed a cheap trade for a Dark Spyro, so that's pretty neat.
All I need now is Voodood - But while Mighty Ape says that they sell him, they also say that it takes 3-5 days. I ordered it ten days ago and no word - which can't be a good sign.

Nah, Boomer is as rare here as anywhere else. It was $50nz, which is about $40 US.
That may seem a lot, but computer games and toys cost HEAPS here anyhow. A normal Skylanders figure costs $20nz (about $25us), so Boomer was only a little over twice the price of a normal Skylander.

To put this in context, a normal $60 Xbox game here costs between $99nz ($115us) and $120nz (about $145us). The core Giants game was roughly $150us.

Well, I tracked down a Voodood on trademe this week, so I now officially have at least one of each character – which was my goal when I decided to start collecting.

I’d quite like an S2 Bash, but I’ve already decided I wouldn’t try to get both S1 and S2 of each character – some of them are just too rare, and there really isn’t a point to having them ‘in-game’. (In fact I’ve given a fair few S1 characters away to help some other people get started).

There are a few variants I’d but if I ever saw them cheap(ish), but overall I’m done until swap-force.

Disk Smiths is getting out of the Skylanders game - they aren't getting any new stock in, and everything they do have is on clearance. The 3DS version of Giants is just $37 now, so anyone that was looking at Punch Pop Fizz can grab him kinda cheap.

Still no sign of LC Chill/LC Pop Fizz at Mighty Ape or JB Hifi.
I'm happy to have imported Ninjini now... with DSE getting out of the game and no sign of the Lightcore figures (despite having been in Australia for a while), I have a bad feeling about this.

New Zealanders, our awesome neighbours from across the sea, you are most welome to come and join us on the Skylanders - Buy, Swap, Sell: Australia Facebook page
