Skylanders is really much better.

I absolutely love Skylanders but everyone must know at least 1 of the characters in Disney Infinity. So people may actually buy Disney Infinity more and some mabye forget Skylanders

So do you think the game really needs toys?

^ neither skylanders or Disney Infinity "needs" toys but by having the figures both platforms appeal to people who like to collect. it is the the figures that make these type of games different from games that just have normal downloadable content

But Skylanders kind of has a plot with the toys.

all Disney Infinity play sets have a plot and missions, all figures also have their own missions when you use them in the toy box

The point of Skylanders is to use toys in a game that's why it's called Skylanders.
But Infinity is mostly creating and stuff and their is no story on how people get the toys or anything.

Yeah, cause spending hours of your life to please others, by making levels they can enjoy, is more fun than playing a game where every character works on every world and not just the toy box mode. *rolls eyes*

If I wanted to spend my life creating levels for other people, I'd go to school to be a game developer, where I actually get paid for it. If I wanted to spend my life creating levels for other people, I'd buy Little Big Planet 2, which offers a far greater variety in the types of levels you can create for other users.

Stats don't even save to Infinity characters. They're just stackable discs.

I still think it's an epic fail that all of the levels come from Playsets, and none of the stories tie together. I haven't seen Disney make a good game yet. These are mainly just sequels to previous movie based games like Incredibles, POTC, and Cars.

6 hours of scaring people in Monsters University is supposed to be fun? I don't like racing games, unless it's Burnout or Ridge Racer, so why would I like the Cars Playset and its endless amount of racing? I used to own Cars and Cars 2 on 360. Sold those with the swiftness.

Skylanders is fun. The first game was awesome, the second game was okay, and the third game doesnt look that good. They need to figure some stuff that is original.

I was doubtful Infinity wouldn't be competitive, but my kids REALLY REALLY like Toy box mode. And if each of the playsets have about 12 hours of entertainment that's about as much as Skylanders (if you don't include the grinding)...about the only thing I don't like is the blind token packs for upgrades. I'm thinking reducing their development cycle to crank out the next game and not evolving and adding much between SSA and SG will now bite them in SF if they don't bring their A game.

In my mind, Skylanders has always excelled on the design and content for the CHARACTER, but there's simply not enough in game content to justify them all. Infinity justifies the characters by limiting their use to the playset--so it limits where you can use the character but always brings new content. I think Skylanders has aced the character part of the equation, now they need to juice it up and vary it up on the CONTENT side of the equation---BIG TIME. ($300+ for a 12 hour game---c'mon guys).

I also share this pessimistic view of the playset game...I haven't seen enough to have a feel if the content is justified..everything I see online is Toy Box mode...I personally don't care for it but my kids love it (they also use Roblox and Mindcraft, which are very similar). I'll definitely take a deeper look before handing over money...but they seem VERY intrigued.

I actually think from a game/story perspective and length first wins hands down...second game actually EXECUTES better from a graphics and sound perspective across all systems but the content/story is weak and too familiar. Frankly, no one should be judging from the third because we haven't seen enough.

Sylanders has better toys Giants, Lightcores, Swap Force, Series 1 and Series 2 and they are all new characters Disney Infinity is just using old characters everyone already knows so Skylanders will have more Characters because they can make new ones but Infinity has to make movies that take a while to make before they can add characters to the game.

I'm not a big fan of Disney in general so I'm not interested by Infinity. I fell in love with Skylanders, I love the character design and the figurines are beautiful. Skylanders has the advantage of being completely original in my opinion.

I don't think so, my 2 year old cousin knows how to use an iPad, kids these days are geniuses with technology compared to me when I was younger. Disney will do well, why? Because its Disney, they are selling the name if anything, the game looks fun also. It has features that Skylanders have yet to implicate. Online battle mode would be a nice addition in Skylanders, or online co op even better. Now here is the thing. Skylanders is original, it set the standard/bar high. Any franchise who dares to compete knows they will have to go a step above and beyond. As with anything - examples are Nintendo Sega Playstation Xbox, another example Blackberry iphone Android and so on and so forth. I have placed a pre-order for Disney Infinity as well as the Cars play set. You get a free figure by doing so with GameStop. If anything it's worth a try to play if not collect the figures/toys. In the long run, I will place my bet on Activision. Disney is great but if they are targeting a specific age group, then that's where they might fail. Skylanders is really fun for all ages and types of gamers to include the hardcore gamers with Nightmare mode and completing 100% of the game. Also for us Hunters, Disney will take that away from us. I enjoy hunting for Skylanders and rare sought after figures. With Disney you can pre-order and not have to worry about finding a specific character . To some that might seem great, others not so great. It's a preference.

While im not all that interested in the starting lineup, they definately dont need to make more movies to make more content. The have been gathering all the IPs and franchised that can make for good games. They have it all already, they just have to make the figures and games. Not reposing characters and creating new ones while still carrying over the models of the retired and not make them obsolete by blocking their use of new game mechanics (ie.. I hope the SSA and SG figures will be able to jump in swap force)
They could have the next pokemon if they play their cards right.

Activisions track record of not innovating within a franchise leaves me doubtful. They could very well run it into the ground like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero, and to some extent Call of Duty.
I hope for the sake of my current investment they do right by the franchise and existing catalog of toys.

If Skylanders would make it slightly... oh... more appealing for somewhat older gamers (as in more complex plots, delving into back stories, so forth, MORE WILIKIN!!!), but of course still keep it clean, that'd be nice. Unless they can begin to capture both the adult and children's markets, I say it'll burn out in half a decade at most.

i strongly agree, a strong point in skylanders is that its fun to go collect these things, and its kinda like pokemon, i read about the new swap force, and read about infinity too, INFINITY gonna suck ! looking forward to swap force !

You do realize the amount of movies Disney has right? Skylanders will run out of original characters much faster than Infinity ever will.

You're wrong actually. Skylanders wasn't the first video game to use toys. Webkinz and U.B. Funkeys did it first, not to mention the Web Game Skylanders Universe has very similar gameplay to U.B. Funkeys (only with a lot less minigames). Lots of people think Skylanders revolutioned Toys & Video Games together, but in truth, it didn't.

The unique thing about Skylanders is using Toys in a game, the actual game itself isn't that unique. Its another generic beat em up game, too much like LEGO games and Castle Crashers with lower difficulty and shorter levels, although the characters do have their own unique sets of abilities. So that's not helping revolutions either.

Even then though, lots of people forgot about UB Funkeys and they got discontinued the toys soon (except me of course I still loved it). As overrated as it is, Skylanders itself may be forgotten one day too. At least Disney Infinity will have a lot of characters from Disney and Pixar movies (both are 2 separate companies) to choose from to be in the game if they want to make sequels; Skylanders will eventually have to make unoriginal characters based off VG guys that already exist and will run out of new ideas. Wrecking Ball is already a bug version of Kirby and Yoshi together (minus belching).

It's been stated and proven that all past characters will work moving forward, and the jump feature will work for EVERY skylander ever made...so in essence you are getting character "upgrade" abilities starting with Swap Force. Not sure if they will pull the Heroics stunt again (assuming it's back).

I agree making MORE value of EXISTING skylanders is a must...there's simply too many toys vs value brought by the game...and now that Universe is disappearing...they aren't really making the case for increasing the value of my investment.

Reposing to some extend is REQUIRED because they have customers that are just joining that won't be able to get past characters--for that I totally get it. Making purchase required to unlock content when you have a downstream version of the same character is where I get a little angry. If I want to buy it because I'm a collector---GREAT...but don't keep content locked when I've already invested in previous iterations. They showed how they don't care about our original investment on this (despite the fact that the characters worked).

^Good and interesting info, I think they both are going to do well, Parents, gamers, fans and collectors of both, whom may have a limited spending budget, will be thinking of value when it comes to making the decision. Value as in gameplay, toy play, collection value etc etc. In one hand Skylanders, in the other Disney Infinity. It will be fun to see the competition sales marketing strategies and promotions this year.

Some day this toys with games will stop been cool and parents due expensive game upkeep will stop buying them.

i just can't see grown men running out to multiple stores to search for vanellope van schweets figure. not even that, the characters dont even look original, they look babish and they looked rushed i will stay a true skylander fan
