I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with Thumpback. Luckily for me, the one I ordered on GameStop.com arrived at my door in good condition. He has one small mark on his nose, but even this collection-minded player is ok with it. However, I was shocked last night at my local GameStop to see the two Thumpbacks they had at the front counter. Both paint jobs were horrible! The particular issue seems to be the smoky blue color on his chin, neck and above the roof of his mouth. Anyone else see this?

To be honest I haven't studied them that close. The only one I looked at that close was the one I purchased.

ive seen this dude i actually took a thumpback back to game here in the uk because of the paint job the guy behind the counter was bein a **t and said there was nothing wrong with it it i said buddy im not wearing glasses yet you are and you cant see the defects on him think you better g back to specsavers for another eye test and new glasses he then said he wouldnt swap it so me bein me went over took one off the shelf and said cheers and walked out i had the reciept in my hand so hecouldnt do anything.

but back to the paint jobs on these i think they have just been rushed due to the demand for these but have a look at my custom thumpback see what you think

just sell it in ebay, because some people would pay a ton of money for these types of figures because somehow they are very rare, also if you manage to sell it with a high price you can buy more skylanders that way

When I bought mine, the first one I looked at had serious paint blotches on his right arm and hand. I asked for a different one and it looks perfect.

mine has an eeeeeetsy beeeeetsy splotch of a BIT darker blue on it's snout. not anything else.

yeap my TB paints are kinda messy also lots of missed, scratches, dirt and some paints peels easily. my kids barely used him as they love EB more. poor quality paint for TB for me. my EB is fine except for the eye paints they come off easily so guys be careful. all i did was repaint the black part of the eye. HF

I got mine at gamestop when the first wave of them hit they had two and both had paint defects on both their top lips. so I just got the one with less visable defects. whats up with that they made 500 mill off us but they cant get a decent paint job on their new giant figures. I could see maybe for the smaller guys because they are small and harder to get good detail but not a giant

Mine has a few scuffs and an unpainted speck on one side of his mouth. He was one of two at the GameStop that I went to, and the other one looked much worse. Like he was wearing lip liner or something . Anyway, it doesn't bother me.

I once saw a Hot Head that had terrible paint applications and glue sticking out of his foot!

When I first got my Warnado, he had a splash of shiny turquoise paint on his eye and i was so mad, but my dad painted over it so now it looks fine i haven't noticed anything wrong with my thumpback. yet?

The only issue on my TB is that the paint on his hands isn't thick enough, especially on his right hand. It's mainly in all the little crevices between his fingers. It causes the light from his forearms to shine through. I'm very picky when it comes to the paint jobs, but I wasn't able to pick up on it at all in the package.

All four TBs at my Walmart had this same problem. I just grabbed the best looking one.

My thumpback looks perfect, expect for inside his mouth, there are finger prints inside his mouth! Disgusting! I asked for a new one on ACTIVISION support tday, and for some reason the model number isn't working online, so I had to call, they want me to send them my thumpback so they can throw it out and give me a new one! I don't hate having finger prints that bad as to throw out a perfectly good figure, and send me a new one, idk what's going on with them lately 2 weeks ago I could ask for a replacement skylander without having to send it in, now it's making me return them, what's up here?

I just saw a Hot Head with glue on top of his head! It looked like a wart

Yup, I have a Thumpback that has anchor paint scratches, and he has awful looking scratches everywhere.

My guess is they don't want to give you a "free" skylander pursay so they want you to trade it with a different one. That's my guess at least.

Hmm Eyebrawl sometimes dont work Thumpback has bad paint... I think they are rushing the new figures.

Mine has a minor gash looking thing on the top. Not that big of a deal, but better than the other one they had in Gamestop when I found these 2.



You really can't even see it for the most part. (it's on the right side)

Black paint scratches everywhere, eye paint splattered on, and scars everywhere.

I picked up an extra thumpback yesterday, two actually. One for my nephews and one for me to keep in a box. (Don't ask, my wife already gave me the third degree on it.) The one I kept in a box has some minors scuffs or dirt on it. Also the part that lights up has some white stuff on it.

I actually like the paint job with light shining through on his forearms!! I just bought a second Thumpback that I'm custom painting and I think I like him better than the original so far... lol!! I'm sooo glad they made a whale figure, cuz they're my FAV animal!!! The paint job on my regular Thumpy is really good, no complaints but I have seen a fair share of those "chapped lips" ones too!! Maybe some Thumpys just need to spend more time in the water!! hehe

Well usually people keep a toy in the package for collecting reasons, in which case I would have opened the damaged one and left the better one packed... If you're lucky the damage will give it more value, as being more rare theoretically, but it could work the other way, too.

To the people saying they are rushing the new figures...i wonder why? Everyone is complaining about wanting them all now, but then complain they are poorly done. pick one or the other I say.

BUT I also think if people are paying this much for a toy...they should be way better done. One TB here looks like it was tossed around and played with before being sold.

I normally wouldnt have clicked on this topic, but our Thumpback had a paint issue too. On his back there is a metalic armor plate with the water symbol on it. That plate had a piece of cardboard stuck in it. As if the paint had been left to dry resting on the figures back and pulled up the surface that it was sitting on.

I don't see any wings, but I see what you mean about eyebrows, LOL! Though where it is, and since it's above AND below the eye I think it's eyeliner, which he doesn't have either, LOL!

I was JUST about to post that I just got my Thumpback, and thanks to this thread I rejected two that weren't quite perfect, then I read your post and figured I should OPEN him before declaring mine to be fine, LOL!

But seeing him all around now, he's fine. Thanks everybody for the heads up!

I am kind of like the rest of you. I hate bad paint jobs. If their are more than one figure at the store I will compare the two for the better paint job. It is so funny you say this because I did this in my latest Skylanders Giants collection video with a Cynder figure. I still have not yet opened Cynder. I am trying to decide if I want to buy Skylanders Battlegrounds for my iOS device. I have an iPhone 4s. I hear it is like Advance Wars and it comes with normal Jet-Vac which I don't have and comes with Royal Double Trouble which is no big deal, but still cool.

I would definitely not compare Battlegrounds to Advance Wars. Battlegrounds is less complicated.

That looks awesome! They should make an in game variant that looks like a killer whale. That's the first thing I thought when I got my TB home. Nice work!

My thumpies look fine, but now I'll be on watch. How many millions of these things have they sold? Are they actually painting these by hand (sorry I'm not a toy nut, I would've thought they would've been able to automate this somehow). If they are then someone is falling asleep in the QA department.

Huh, now that Orca thumpback job is pretty damned cool! I've had reasonable luck with the quality of my figures. Though my Lightcore Jet Vac did have strands of dried glue on him, plus my Series 1 Zap is a little suspect... granted, I've had a good rate of success with my Giants figures, it seems to be my SSA figures suffering from low quality.

My LC had the dried glue too. But hardly any and it came off!

Likewise, that's really the only fault I've had with my Giants figures. Actually I think the worst I've had is my S1 Bash, quite frankly looks appalling. I'll share pictures sometime.

The worst paint job I saw was a Dino-Rang overflowing with black paint. He even had an extra pupil!

Oh boy, I'm getting Thumpback today so I'll have to see what the paint jobs are like. Thanks for the heads up

the killer whale thumpback variant!!!!!!!

Having landed the whale at long last, I can now say with absolute certainty that his paintjob is pretty much flawless, plus his lightup is right on cue with what I expected. I've honestly had little to no issues with Giants series figures paint jobs.

My Thumback turned out to be a pretty good one, great paint job and the only issue is a slight scuff on his mouth (but I don't really care).
Haven't had a badly painted Skylander yet but still on the lookout for a "skeptical whirlwind"
