Agreed. The majority of the alleged trolling really is just conversation, but there are real trolls here too, who will be more than happy to use the support for this topic as a free pass.

I'm pretty sure this hasn't been said yet and I feel like saying because of something I just saw. I just saw someone accuse others of flaming because they told him not to multi post and he continued multiposting anyway.

Someone correcting you or telling you you broke the rules is not flaming. Flaming is when someone posts insult(s) towards you intended to hurt you. When someone tells you that you've broken a rule or corrects you they are just trying to help.

And let's not forget that the Forum Police are breaking the off-topic rule by making a scene every time there's a double post. Two wrongs don't make a right, etc.

That's why I always make sure to post something on topic first then just call them out for their mistake as a kind of secondary thing. And honestly most topics are not going to stay on topic anyway. And to your last sentence: No 2 wrongs don't make a right but 2 wrongs will often prevent the wrongdoer from doing more wrong so..........

NOBODY'S PERFECT

What I mean is that unless the other person calls you out on your bad behavior you will continue to have bad behavior so you should just tell them the first time. And the person my post was aimed at said that that is a second wrong because you went off topic by calling them out. This makes sense in my head but I'm probably not making any sense here.

Honestly, I virtually never see a successful intervention by Forum Police. Usually, all that happens is that what was once a routine and innocuous double post ends up spiraling out of control into a full-fledged argument, thereby derailing what could have been a useful topic. Your technique seems fine (posting about the topic, then addressing etiquette), but considering I've never seen anyone employ this tactic, I would say you're the exception that proves the rule.

I agree. Most of the time I report people but never bother to tell them. That way it prevents the topic from getting chaotic but the rule breaking is still acknowledged.

No one is hating you. They are just trying to get you to see that this topic is not a bad idea and that we are not saying anything bad about others. Just because one disagrees with you doesn't mean they hate you. There are actually civilized people on here....

Most newer users are trying to defend themselves and feel they are making a change.

Some older users actually try to pick fights. They actually know that it'll start a fight and they are all up for it.

Here's a crazy idea... instead of being "Forum Police" and "correcting" behavior you find disruptive or against the rules, why not just report the post and move on?

Then, you don't have to worry about anyone's feelings getting hurt, the thread doesn't get derailed and life goes on.

If Dark wants to address the issue, then he's got the ability and the notification to do so. If HE doesn't want to address it, then, perhaps, you shouldn't be harassing individuals about it.
