Sandhog allows him to compete with the top PVPers, but Brawler is not a bad build if you're not looking for that. Keep in mind that the speed upgrade Sandhog receives for tunneling is pretty significant when you make your decision, though.

Although Lightning Lord seems to do more ranged damage, I prefer the Typhoon Titan, to help cover up his weak spot in melee. The lightning lord does impressive damage, but it requires that you stand in one spot for half the time, at which point your vulnerable to attacks. I know the clouds on typhoon titan don't do much by themselves, (about 10 damage per hit fully upgraded) but when combined with the zapper field which does at about 18 damage per hit, the damage adds up quickly.

With Lightning Rod, the decision is a little bit complex. First, you have to ask yourself, are you aiming for story or PVP? If it's story, then pick Lightning Lord, and read no further. If PVP, consider the following.
You are going to have to decide what kind of characters are going to eat you for breakfast. If you want to be demolished by melee, pick Lightning Lord. You'll do great against ranged and keep-away characters, but abandon all hope when charged and engaged up close. If you want to be demolished by ranged, pick Typhoon Titan. You'll fare better against melee characters, but when Drobot, Ignitor, Flameslinger and the like show up, that'll be it for you. Also, regardless of which path you pick, you are not going to defeat the top characters. Typhoon Titan is just another piece of paper for Stealth Elf, Slam Bam, Wham-Shell and Voodood to shred, even if he is supposed to be strong against melee. Lightning Lord isn't going to fare well against Ignitor anyway, and although he can eke out victories against Drobot, don't go in expecting it. In my opinion, Lightning Lord and Typhoon Titan are equally worthless against their weaknesses, but Lightning Lord fares a tad better against his strength. Either way, I find him to be a middle-of-the-road PVP character. |

Camo depends on how you want to play. Melon Master is a better counter to melee, Vine Virtuoso is a better counter to ranged. He's solid no matter what, though. Play with him a little and see what you're more comfortable with, then go with that.

I like they way eye of the storm works. The minis serves it's purpose well as a long range attack, and his only one too. Turtle slam is also his only AoE. Guided tornado is near useless once you get the homing upgrade, and so is extended tornado.

And honestly, the tornadoes themselves just aren't damaging or versatile enough to make them your only attack. 40 seems like a nice number, but when you consider that you lose the minis, the ground pound, AND an upgrade to spinning speed and damage, it's hard to justify it. Especially when you still have access to plain, respectable 25-damage tornadoes anyway.

You should never use the Mega Slam on SoTF. The flame form does more damage anyway. Basically, you want to activate the flame form mortar to get some ranged damage on them, and when they start to get a little bit close to you explode your mortar and smash them with the mortar when they are close up for big damage.

^ Yes, this, exactly. Since more than one Mortar can hit at once, you deal up to 150 damage with the mortars themselves at close range, plus an additional 38~ with the explosion, which you should detonate as soon as the Mortars hit your foe. Force them close with the flame soul, then finish the job.

Simple. You lose. Slam Bam has the elemental advantage, which is the only reason why though. SoTF Ignitor does more damage close up than Blademaster anyway, and apparently Blademaster misses a lot as well. There's not really a way how a decent Slam Bam player can lose against a SoTF, because Slam Bam is generally strong against him. It's a bit like saying that what happens when Drobot start's shooting at Cynder? Cynder will lose, since Drobot should beat her every single time, because he is strong against her.

Voodood isn't really weak to much. The first thing to be careful of, though, with any character in PVP, is the elemental weakness. His being Tech, you have a bit of an advantage, because only Drobot is a superbly strong Tech character. He'll pretty much beat Voodood every time. Trigger Happy is weak, so it doesn't matter if he has the elemental advantage. Just do what you would normally do. As for Boomer, watch out for the Troll Bombs, and approach him as normal. Megadozer Drill Sergeant is problematic; in the right hands, it's hard to imagine Voodood winning that one.
As for characters outside of your elemental weakness, be careful with Floral Defender Zook. That is a very tough matchup. SotF Ignitor is a pain as Voodood as well. Cynder, even though you're strong against her, takes a lot of practice to beat... but it's doable. Aside from those few, it's important to prepare well when you're fighting a melee character who outdamages you, like Stealth Elf. Don't get up close and engage in a firefight, because you'll lose. Stay on the move with your Zipline, and wait for an opportunity. Apply the same strategy to characters who punish up close but aren't melee, like Double Trouble and GBM Dino Rang. There might be a couple more problem fights I'm forgetting off the top of my head, but those are the big ones. |

I'll throw in my two cents for PVP, because I'm bored. Skipped characters I haven't upgraded.
Spyro is good on both paths. Sheep Burner is more versatile, but Blitz is more damagin- however its very dependent on getting an arena with a straight stretch. The Daybringer Flame is the real seller for Sheep Burner, I know few of you think it's any good, but it charges up fairly quickly for me, it has a good aim, and if you keep using them they rack up quickly, plus you get Gorund Pound to cover up for close range. Wrecking Ball is extremely mixed and is like Blitz Spyro, very situational, and won't work on many arenas. The biggest problem is his aim and it's a shame because otherwise he's actually very good and the Forcefield is very strong. I haven't tried Total Tongue but I can imagine the biggest hook, the extra burp power, being rendered useless in PVP because most arenas don't have hazards to swallow. Bash is extremely strong on Granite Dragon. The tail swipe deflects attacks and does an insane 80 damage per hit. You would expect him to be slower but for such raw power, he's actually very fast. I haven't tried Pulver yet though. Prism Break is very good on Crystaleer, even if not top A material. He's mostly just fun to play. The triple crystals are easily the best thing since you can reflect beams off them quickly and there's a chance all 3 will hit for 120 damage all together. However, he is extremely slow and the crystal eruption is a mediocre close-range attack. Do NOT use him against Melee specialists or Ignitor. Again, I haven't tried Prismancer. Terrafin becomes practically invincible on Sandhog which is what makes him so amazing. In fact, if you are faced by him the best thing to do is hide as well as possible until he is force to come up. The invincibility can be coupled with the damage from Razorfin for many easy victories. Haven't tried Brawler. Slam Bam is a good replacement for Stealth Elf if you use Zook for Life instead, he has a Dash, his Ice Hammer combo is fairly fast and does an extra 85 damage, and he can stop foes... *puts on shades* cold in their tracks by spamming Ice Prison, which is very unique among Skylanders. Glacier Yeti is bad however, but mostly because you opponents can escape the Ice easily and his fists do mediocre damage down that path... Zap is easily one of the worst characters alongside Wrecking Ball and Chop Chop because both paths are easy to predict and do little damage. Admittedly very fun to use though. Wham-Shell is SOLD on Captain Crustacean. He's fairly quick, the Poisiden Strike does excellent damage with excellent range and is also quick. A Attack is also good if you can't use Poisiden Strike for some reason. Starfish and partially Melee combos are completely useless though. Haven't tried Starfish path. Gill Grunt SUCKS down Harpooner- he's slow, he does below average damage, the Water attacks are useless, heck he may be with Wrecking Ball, Zap and Chop Chop in the F For Fail tier. Water Weaver, on the other hand, is a good-strength, extremely fun and versatile path that's probably one of the most unique sets alongside Floral Defender Zook, even if it's not as powerful. Ignitor is practically Terrafin again. Hide his armor in a good spot and you win the match. Can't hide it in a good spot? Spam triple mortars. Soul of The Flame makes it last so well it may as well make him invincible. Probably the hardest character to counter, since Water is a very mild Element to use against him. I haven't tried Blademaster. Sunburn is mediocre on the Flamethrower path since the Flamethrower itself is a poor attack. No flight hurts him badly as well since Phoenix dash ends far too fast for a replacement- They should have just made Flight have the same effect as the Phoenix Dash. Unfortunately, I haven't tried Flame Lord. I've tried Flameslinger on Pyromancer only, and he's good, but somewhat situational... As some have said he has a good play style but average damage. The Supernova is easily his best attack, even if it's uncomfortable to set up. Drobot is so god-tier down Master Blaster it's boring to play him. I haven't tried Clockwork Dragon yet but it at least looks more fun... Don't get all the hate to Trigger Happy... Are you all sending him down Golden Frenzy? Because the Heads or Tails attack is excellent, it's fast, it has an AoE and a chance to do extra damage, and splash. Golden Frenzy on the other hand is beyond mediocre unless you'd like sore hands. He would be up there in A-tier easily if it weren't for his poor health, which at least will be rectified a bit by Giants. Hex is a mixed bag since Zook does everything better and that's her main problem. With Zook, you don't need to wait to cover the battlefield with death spikes. With Zook, all effects linger, sipping away at the opponent's health fast. With Zook, you don't charge up the most powerful attack for two seconds only for it to miss... She's definetly somewhere in the middle even without Zook overshadowing her. Haven't tried the Orb path, but I can't imagine it being that good... Cynder is Stealth Elf's check since she's right up there with her and has the advantage as well. Shadow Dancer is amazing on Wii while Nether Welder is for everything else. The damage from Shadow Dash combined with Death Bound slowdown make her one to be wary of, and the Lightning is all-around powerful while still having the perks of a fairly nerfed Dash. Chop Chop is a joke. Don't consider using him at all unless you want something even harder but FAR less fun than Mutant Mudds. Avoid at all costs, less than useless on both paths, in both Modes... Ghost Roaster is bad on Wii and great on everything else. Using Skull Master. Skull Charge is beyond nerfed on Wii since you can't stop it and it hits only once. Whirlwind is okay. I hated her before because I never realized I didn't upgrade her, but at least on Tempest Dragon, she's fairly versatile and strong but it's difficult trapping with her which is the main hook. Warnado is excellent. He's extremely difficult to get right but the payoff is win, win, win... Fly gets powers. Extra Melee. Good hazards with tornadoes. Able to escape FAST. High stats. I like to trap the foe in a tornado, hit them with Mini-Turtles, Turtle Slam, and launch another tornado in the midst of all this and rinse and repeat... Since you can literally use the Tornadoes at any time, you can just spam it the whole match... Wind Master, on the other hand, is terrible since you need to stand still for it to work at all, and if your main attack the tornado, misses, you need to do it again, so it makes him a piñata that can't hit well... Sonic Boom is underrated since you can just spam the Eggs as grenades alongside continual Scream. She's hopelessly pounded by long-rangers though, especially Zook, and Ignitor who she is also weak to. Slightly above average. Haven't tried Siren. Lightning Rod is decent. He's kind of like Wind Master Warnado in that you need to stand still to hit with him but he can actually do good damage and is able to aim. Haven't tried Typhoon Titan. Camo is excellent down both paths. Vine Virtuoso is more balanced, overall, I would say, since the Watermelons still do great damage and the vines get a massage boost. Melon Master is more defensively adept. He's a matter of what you prefer. Stump Smash is okay, I haven't tried Hammer Path, nor played with him much on PVP... He's a fair character overall, at least on Nut Crafter. Zook is the only character that can defend and damage well. The cacti will come so fast you won't be able to destroy them and even if you do they'll get a good bit of health off anyway. If you avoid them he spams mortar or bazooka. A very dangerous opponent that can deal with pretty much everyone but Ignitor by hardly moving. Artilleryman remains untested. Stealth Elf is a goddess down Pook Blade Saint and strong but hard to use down Forest Ninja. Unless you just want to have fun ignore Forest Ninja completely and shred up every version of the whole game with PBS. |

But they're really weak compared to other paths. Yamato Blast takes ages to charge, so it doesn't make up for it. The Pot'O'Gold doesn't do great damage down that path. Bouncing Bullets are cool, but not as amazing on say, Icicle Isle. Overall, Money Bags is just more balanced, since you get a one-click splash move that does excellent damage, with the opportunity to do more, plus the Golden Turret can be used to make up for the Golden Frenzy damage boost, lasts forever, and aims with decent speed. Heck, you can use the Heads or Tails as hazards if you want to. I respect your choice though. |

Gamingmaster, i agree with all your path decisions, although i dont think Zap is really all that bad. You can trap opponent's with damaging sea slime while damaging with bolts now and then. If you picked Tesla dragon, try slime serpent. In the right hands, Zap can become a strategic, unique character.

The same enemy would be just as easily dispatched with the moneybags coin toss. But the optimum path for Trigger Happy comes down to the experience and skill of the player. Golden Frenzy is great for beginners, as it makes T-Happy easy to use. This is probably why he is in the starter pack. However, when strategic approaches are required, you will see that T-Happy is not really very effective. Moneybags can do more damage and push foes back while covering a wide area with the coinsplosion upgrade, rather than shooting and hoping for some of the bouncing bullets to make contact. Plus the loss of bouncing bullets makes the Golden machine gun easier to set up, as it will not activate if there is one of T-Happy's bullets in the area. If executed properly, moneybags T-Happy can be effective, however still pretty weak due to his low HP.

Hmm... you know I think you've finally changed my mind on ... I liked the bouncing bullets and I couldn't really be bothered to reset him but since I've decided not to get anymore Skylanders until Giants I'm at a loss as to what to do in the game. I think next time I get the chance I'll reset Triggs... Though it will render the hours (yes... hours...) I spent trying to do Drobots challenge with a fully upgraded Golden Frenzy Trigger Happy a complete waste of time.
Poor Triggs... he beat Kaos for me and now I'm going to wipe his brain...
