I have been holding onto this for a couple of weeks, but now that it is live, I thought I would share this.
This podcast comes from a website called, "Media Pulp." If anyone is familiar with it, awesome. If not, now you know of another site that hosts podcasts. Here is a link.
http://mediapulp.podbean.com/2...anders-special/
Anyhow, I've known about this upcoming podcast for about 2 weeks. It is dedicated to Skylanders. It's an interesting listen.
How I came to find out about this podcast, is even more interesting. I won't spoil it, but the host of said podcast, is the one who got a hold of me for the first time, on NEOgaf, where I also posted my collection.
The whole thing is a very good listen. Starting at 27:25, however, is the reason I know about this podcast.
With that, I don't know if they come here, but I would like to thank Wes at Media Pulp, as well as Alex Ness and Mike Stout at Toys for Bob, for doing what they said they did, at the time I listed above.
All things aside, it's still a very good listen. Anything Skylanders related, is a good listen.
EDIT: The podcast also makes official mention, by Toys for Bob members, that only a few thousand of each variant is made.
It also mentions the official level cap for Giants. Skylanders from series 1 and 2 can go up to level 15. However, series 1 toys can't gain new abilities, only series 2 reposes.

No problem. I never knew about this podcast, until the host got a hold of me a couple of weeks ago, telling me that employees at Toys for Bob were telling him - in the new podcast - that pics of my collection are up on the walls in Toys for Bob's HQ. They wouldn't have told him that, had the host not mentioned my collection to them. He didn't know if they had seen it, but aparently they had before he even mentioned it. It made me geek out, and I don't usually geek out. Like really geek out.
All things aside from that, it had given me the info on Giants I needed to know, minus the length of the game and if there would be adventure packs for Giants. It kinda stinks about the original figures not getting new abilities, though. Guess I am buying 3 of every repose. It's all gravy, baby. I've already started setting back money.

Ah, well it's nice to see the reposes will have a little "bonus" to them. Kinda sucks on one hand, since it means a lot of collectors will have to be buying more (although, depending on the difficulty, I can see Level 15 characters being 'easy' mode and Level 10 characters being 'hard' mode).
On the other hand, it'd REALLY suck if they released new figures that were exactly the same. There'd be no point in trying to buy the ones out now, and no point in buying the new ones either.

I agree. I'm hoping what they did, was make the reposes future proof. Infact, I think they may have mentioned it in the podcast. They said something about figures going across multiple games. I'm hoping they meant progress.

Well, I mean, if you were just a casual Skylanders player who tries to collect one of every figure, but not COLLECT them as seriously as GM78, then buying the reposes might be worth it just so you can try the second upgrade path. But if you already collected two of each and they don't give the reposes new powers... sucks for you. Even though I only have one of each Skylander, I'm not going to buy any reposes-I'm not made of money. But I will buy all of the Giants, new Skylanders, and light up redesigns.

Thanks for sharing GM,
Yep, its looks likely that I'm tracking down the reposes also now. It seems like a longtime from release. I wonder who activision will have available at release and how hard it will be to find them. Also it was hard to tell because Ness and Stout did not seem to know a lot about actual toy distribution patterns but we seem to have gone from standard production wave distribution to SKU tracking distribution. SKU tracking is very hard to regulate for some retailers but can be amazing for retailers with preestablished tracking systems that have had heavy sales tracking records. However expect the same stale freight for distributors with low turnover ratios. |

Oooh, if they're smart they'll release some of the reposes and even some variants of them before Giants actually comes out to create hype for the game and then release the rest of the reposes and the new Skylanders in future waves when the game comes out!

That would be cool.
The reposes do work on the original game, too. However, they will be capped at 10, while only having the abilities the first set of upgrades provide. That means they could start releasing them if they wanted to. You just couldn't take advantage of gaining levels 11-15 or get new moves until Giants hits.

Yeah! Now that I've had this idea, I think it would be foolish for Activision/TfB to not release the reposes early and take advantage of time where new figures aren't being released and interest in Skylanders is slowly dying down. And they can release reposes for Wave 4/5 characters first and make them really easy to find so that people will want to buy reposes even more and they'll get hooked on them.
I should be an Activision sales associate. (The first three letters in associate are key.)

I too wanted to say thanks for the link GM.. interesting stuff! The guys seem pretty down to earth.
Really wish I had the resources to go to E3!!! I heard registration, assuming you're in the gaming industry, is around $1000! I look forward to setting some videos...

It would indicate from the webcast the remodels can learn new upgrades in giants that the current toys cannot. However they will not come automatically knowing these abilities or have these available while being used in the original game. |
