well here it is. it's not finished yet still needs to be textured - surface and the specularity map(as sparx is too shiny in some areas) as well as figuring out how to get sparx's wings correct. that could take some time as I have no Idea how to use semi transparent textures in blender.

Oh and we need a rigger preferably one who actually uses thier rigs on a daily basis and does not complain about using them when they are finished. thisis for a very good reason we need good rigs that are easy to use, not ones that everyone who uses them, curses the person(people) who made it.

I on the other hand, to continue the cooking metaphor, I destroy perflectly good ingredients.

also in terms of rigs and realistic dragon wings we need to find if the cloth symulator still has problems colliding with other parts of the same mesh

changelist ---SPARX HEAD

made mouth longer
made eyes smaller and less reflective
edited jaw
removed scales to make him look smoother

the space in the middle is from issues with the blended mirror modifier interfering with the mutires(make it look smoother) modifier. once frixion members are satisfied I can apply the mirror thus getting rid of the space between the teeth.

any critique or coments on the model would be geatly appreciated.

either way anyone working on the project needs 2.63 because the model has n-gons(polygons with more than 4 sides) because older versions of blender don't support them.

Gary, the character is a 3D model of sparx.

I am almost done texturing sparx

I have finished the dragon egg the material can be modified so to easily change the color of the egg the color in the video is how I imagine the in-movie color of spyro's egg to look like again if it is too dark it can easily be changed with minimal effort.

If anyone, regardless of whether you are part of this project or not, has any critiques or concerns to offer about the model please say so.(because outside critique is always good for artists)

Oh and Skijarama I will be creating a thread in the fanart section to get more attention to what others may see as a somewhat dying project.
and who is currently managing the frixion acount on youtube. it would be great to send some of the models and textures to this person to show them off on the main channel

and any news on the cynder models' progress the one for adult cynder is highest in priority

Well honestly, it does not look like sparks.

The area where the hands are looks really weird. It looks like sparx is wearing a coat or something.

His hands are way way too small. You can barely notice them.

Did you use any reference images when making this model?

It looks like you did some high res sculpting on him. But i'm not sure the details you added are very accurate.

Recommendation: If I were serious about making a Sparx model, I would remake this one from scratch. Use many reference images of the real spark when making the model. Load the reference images into blender as background images so you can have the ability to constantly refer to them.

Sorry if my criticism is harsh but I am being honest with you.

And as for the Cynder models, I am not currently working on them and I won't be for a while. I have many things to worry about in my life right now and I don't have enough time for this project at the moment.

I have gotten some work done on the adult Cynder model but it still needs a lot of work.

well, you do have a point, the sparx i saw in the games, even on the classic ones, he had a bulge behind the mouth, in legend of spyro, the bulge was smaller, less visable, because of his glow.

not harsh...just brutally honest and it's what I need.

I did use reference images of sparx(dawn of the dragon and Krome versions) as well as reference images of actual dragonflies.

I understand some the complaints about the hands and arms they are the weakest part of the model. I also watched videos of him in action as well as studied concept art.
I should redo him completely and make him more like the krome sparx model rather than dawn of the dragon. as in dawn of the dragon I disliked his final design

evalutionspyro are you talking about his jaw? because yes that needs more work too everything needs more work. I am begining to even dislike the wings now

the scales are a bumpmap.

I'm far more used to working on objects and props and landscape details than characters, I thought working on a project like this would force me to get better by recieving criticism. good thing I wasn't wrong at least about the getting criticsm part.

And this past week I have been drawing sparx constantly from many angles I've been playing around with acual clay. I've noticed that if I play more with clay I get better at seeing in three dimensions as well as thinking how I would model the same thing in blender . I have realized how much different character modeling is from modeling objects. I'm understanding sparx's apearence and physiology a bit better as well as how he should move

also: here's another prop



not sure is I like it or not. the underlying structure is good but I need to work more on texturing it. It also looks too much like somthing from skyrim.

It does glow but the glow is rather weak and with only the glow the bump-map does not render well for some reason.

I was heavily inspired to start anew on sparx I couldn't sleep anyway so here is my first steps on a newer better sparx model(looks more like him anyway) the head still need a lot of work but the drawing and the clay helped much more. plus he has a better silhouette.



I probably won't work on him for a while because I need to start working on maps and paintings of the temple and swamp. the swamp in the games seems rather bare and we never got to see spyro and sparx's home I'm thinking it should be built up on a mushroom with spyro living in a rounded hole in the stalk and sparx and his parents living in a holowed-out growth higher up the trunk. I also need to work on the mushroom raft that spyro's egg is placed on.

and what is the progress on the script because I can do some storyboarding.

And as for a script, I've no idea how it is coming. But, I'm confident that we should spend a bit more time in the movie building up Spyro's decision to leave his home, you know? That way, it adds more characterization, and we can feel the bonds between Spyro and his family.

Which elemental dragon are we speaking of here? And can you give me a voice reel? NO offense, but i need to know what people can do before i can take them into the project.

EDIT: And the storyline is that of the legend of Spyro trilogy, with some basic enhancements to deepen plot, and fill in plot-holes.

Oh, wow. I never actually played the eternal night all the way through. *sweat drop* eh heh heh. Ah well, ive got this movies development time to prepare for that. (FYI, if that is from the eternal night, you may want to find somebody else to voice act for now. the eternal night is a ways off.)

EDIT: Well... eh... I'm sorry, but I would recommend getting a better microphone. I could barely make out what you were saying. And from what I could make out, it seems there is a great deal of room for improvement. Not trying to be harsh, or mean, Just honest. So, meet those things, and we'll see about a place in the movie for you. For now though, the spot you want remains unfilled. That does not mean im completely rejecting you though, I just want you to have better equipment first, and maybe do multiple takes until you and I are satisfied.

Don't put yourself down. In all honest,y as long as you can get a better mic, I think you could do a better job Voice Acting than drawing conceptual art. Cause, i'm going to be brutally honest here, that art does not make the cut. But, I Don;t know if your voice acting makes the cut, because I Can't hear it properly, in all of its true nature. I'd still say get a better mic, and we'll see what we can do for you then.

In my opinion its better than the last one. Also i'm sorry it cuts off at the end but my recorder ran out of battery while I was recording it.

No big deal. As for the voice acting itself... Now that i have a better idea of what it sounds like, Im not exactly sure where to take this. Its clear to me you need allot of improvement. also, it sounds like you are young. I'm young too, but I'm old enough to pull off Malefors voice decently. For now, I can't give you any real position,s but you could always go and basically be the start to our websites forums. (its a bit redundant the sign-p process for webs.com. >.>. it asks you to make your own site before you can sign into anybody elses.) And you can also give your suggestions, feedback, and any thing else. you dont need to have a credits-listed-by-name-position on the team to be a massive help.

So, I guess that sums up that interview. Feel free to do more reels in the future if you can get better recording devices, and can sound a bit better in your voice-work. It just takes time, patience, and practice. (and a quiet room where you can make as much noise as you need helps too. smilie)

Evilrainbow, I thought the elemental dragon did not speak. In terms of art you remind me of when I started digital art and all I had was paint and a dream

all you need is practice and a few good books. The DragonArt series is a good place to start for dragon and character drawing. for landscapes the best reference is the world around you. I know the whole 'draw what you see' thing is cliche but it really works.

I did not want to see another attempt to make the legend of spyro series into a movie I was a bit disappointed that the official one was killed by activision when developement of spyro's kingdom went sour.

I currently taking a break from sparx and back to studying him and working on the floating mushroom model and after that I will work on several(5-7) orange and purple mushroom varients for use in the swamp.

Awesome. Looking forward to seeing them. Also, I wrote up a temporary script for like, the first 2 minutes. Ill send it via PM. It is b yno means, final ,and i likely wont even write the final script. (as i have no experience or knowledge of that)

here is the raft it does glow just like the mushrooms in-game. I think I did a pretty good job texturing it. It has both a color map and a bump map. the gills remind me of jello.

The reason why its on Skylandersfanon Wiki is because Torch is also a Skylanders OC as well as a classic and legend OC.

Well, we are thinking of possibly doing a shorter movie between DotD, and TEN. It will odds are revolve more around the start of the war between Malefors grublins, and the dragons and their allies. I think. I didn't invent that one, the concept was around BEFORE i was handed director seat. Either way, we may find a place for your character in that movie when we get there(likely in a few years). So, just remind us when we are nearing completion of the eternal night, and so long as i remember (I have bad memory) he may get a roll.
