A reconstructed super-whirlwind in Midnight Mountain Home [NO cheats] [CLOSED]

Hi everybody!
I just want to show you a demo of the reconstructed super-whirlwind in Midnight Mountain Home. The whirlwind is NOT a result of any cheating. It was placed here by the proper game mod developed by the Kly_Men_COmpany. I am NOT the Kly_Men_COmpany. I'm just the author of this demo. BTW this is not for the original release, this is for Greatest Hits only.

Yeah, they were. There are at least 3 proofs of this hypothesis:
1. Hole in the roof
2. Unreachable island
3. Exact landing on the island

Every whirlwind in the game has a specified direction in which Spyro will glide after lifting. There are only 256 potential directions for each whirlwind. The length of the gliding is so big that it's pretty easy to miss the island without using D-pad. In other words the whirlwind can not give Spyro any direction. So exact landing is a sufficient reason for the whirlwind in the castle.

Wow. How come no one found this before? Probably because they were looking for secret worlds and hacks and stuff, not codes for whirlwinds that actually never showed up. Brian Hastings from the Insomniac team stated they were going to put the Super Bonus world on that unreachable island, but something happened, and they changed it. He never said how they planned to get Spyro over there, so this must be it. But why was one of the butterfly jars recoded to be the egg Maiken? Were they orginally gonna put her up there, too? And another "proof" I guess you could call it for that whirlwind, is it being right outside the Sorceress' lair, and since the Bonus Round ends with a final fight with her, it would makes sense to put the whirlwind there, to take once straight to the portal that leads to the rest of the story.

super-whirl-wind had been removed (for unknown reasons). Unfortunately,
the artist who made all the changes (as per the programmer's and
designer's request) failed to remove the old island way off in the
distance. Same with the programmer who overlook removing the goodies
that had been placed there.

By the time I was back from vacation the game was done and out the door.

So that's the story of the distant island with the goodies on it. Over
the years I have had lots of people ask what that island is, or how you
get out to it, but you are the first to write that has actually found a
way out there!

Not quite, the real reason for putting the egg up to the island is a strange behavior of this egg. Normally you can get this egg by catching the thief. But also there is a chance that you find the same egg without hunting for the thief. This will be possible if you beat the Sorceress without catching the thief. And when you return to the homeworld you will find that instead of thief there is Moneybags on the bridge. And the thief left the egg near the Desert Ruins' helmet:

Well, theoretically, we can assume that it is possible, but it will be much harder to implement than just reconstruct this whirlwind.

so what happens if you dont catch the thief before moneybags arrives?? does the whirlwind come then, cos ive compleated the game and it aint appeared yet

Because that whirlwind was what they were originally gonna do. They took it out. This person hacked their game to rebuild the whirlwind to show you what the original plans were. It's not supposed to apear.

and there's an unused boss battle in Dino Mines, you can get to it by using the swiming cheat

Yep, I've seen that on YouTube before, and I've actually done it myself, it's weird, it's just a square arena with a wooden fence around, and when you run into the middle of the arena, you get teleported back to the level and you appear on the outside of a wall, lol. That doesn't bug me as much, as it's no longer apart of the level, Midnight Mountain, now really bothers me, as that island that we can't get too without cheating is impossible to get to and it's apart of the level, they should have either removed the island completely, or added in that whirlwind, not make it look unfinished. And I thought Insomniac Games was perfectionists at their games, well, this is one of their mishaps, lol.

The same with Ratchet & Clank, in the first game, when you select a weapon from the inventory, the gameplay does not pause so you don't have an infinite amount of time to select it without having to pause the whole game entirely. Whereas in the sequels, the gameplay pauses, so I find that so annoying everytime I play it. It feels like it's unfinished again like Midnight Mountain.

This is awesome, I really wish they kept the whirlwind. When I get an AR PS2/Gameshark I'll be sure to fly there..

There's also that weird hall-like thing in Midday Gardens. You need to do the swimming in air glitch, fly up, look down (to the building that the rocket (or whatever flying device) is kept in) and you'll see a hall of something. When you go close to it, it vanishes.. :/

Strange thing is I can swear once the original pirate copy I played had this Whirlwind. So unless its rip came from a GH copy, which I'm not even sure is possible while being able to get it playing on non-American machines, it must be present in SOME form in the PAL version.

I've got the PAL version of this game since I live in the UK, and there's no whirlwind there.
Also, I've got the Platinum version which is the equivalent to a Greatest Hits version in the USA, and the black label version, and they both don't have it.

No, what I mean is, unless I'm misunderstanding the Whirlwind was hidden under other coding in this GH rip and I'm guessing it's the same in some version of the PAL edition. Unless it's possible to get one game from one region and convert it into a disk for another region it simply must be. Strangely enough, the Whirlwind only ever appeared on my PSX, not PS2. May dig it and the pirate copy out one day to see if it still appears.

Wow, this is interesting! Do you remember what was there on the island? Maybe there was something special instead of usual jars with butterflies? And if you find again your strange copy, please check (in addition to the whirlwind) the unfinished arena in Dino Mines! Maybe there is something special too! Thanks in advance!

I don't remember what was on the island, no... I know I still have the copy, it's in my collection boxes, with my demos and handheld games, so yeah. I'm not a hundred percent on the PlayStation I played it on but I THINK it's in the stereo room next to our TV room. The really tasking bit is actually taking them out and booting them up. smilie Still have the memory card in the PS2 now as well.

I'm not completely sure how I activated the whirlwind. I only remember battling the Sorceress beforehand, but I don't remember if I beat her, lost and quit, or used my arena-edge glitch, so I will have to look into the method as well...

If you read the other posts, you'd know that the Super Bonus Round was meant to be where that Whirlwind took the person who flimed that video. But before the game shipped, they took it out while the designer of that bit was on vacation. They, however, forgot to take the tower out, as well as the lives up there. And they obviously were too lazy to just delete the coding for that Whirlwind, and just covered it with some other coding that disabled it forever. Well, forever untill now.

I am observing this topic, and I read all posts in it. I understand what everything was supposed to do, but my main question still stays unanswered: Why they deleted it? But on the other hand, this Impossible Island was big mystery for several years. For me it is also interesting coincidence, that you've found that exactly 12 years after release of game - during Year of the Dragon smilie
