So why is Gill Grunt's armor worse than anyone else's? [CLOSED]

Seriously - he's the ONLY Skylander to have the pitiful Armor rating of 6? And his speed is the starting minimum as well? He's still an effective character despite these drawbacks, but I sometimes wonder how much better he'd be if he wasn't such a "glass cannon".

And instead of making a Legendary version of him (who could have used it), they made one of Trigger Happy, who already HAD "legal maximum" starting stats for Speed, Armor AND Critical Hit. Legendary Trigger Happy starts with an Armor rating that's better than a Gill Grunt who's done all ten Heroic Armor Challenges!

Sigh. Where's the love? smilie

[EDIT: Changed the title because I think people were taking the "why do the creators hate Gill Grunt so much" topic a little too seriously, when I really just wanted to ask "he has no perks to rate being the only one with such a bad armor class, so why was he given such a limitation?"]

They made him their Facebook timeline cover. I guess that's kind of something.
It is kind of weird he got shafted though, especially since he's the only of the 3 without a Legendary Form.
Maybe..he's the returning Skylander for Giants?

I've tended to think they love him a bit too much because he seems to have such a strong presence on most of their promotional material/box art/etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they love that useless character considering they were GUSHING about one of his catchphrases. Not only that, but there is a SPECIFIC trophy on PS3/Xbox dedicated to him and his abilities. Dislike aside, I found that trophy such a tacky move since it's supposed to be an ensemble game. #justsaying

If it weren't for the Call Me Fireman! achievement, I probably would've never given the Water Weaver path a go and I would've simply dismissed Gill Grunt as being just a lackluster character. I'm pretty sure they don't hate Gill Grunt...maybe they didn't want to overexpose him by making variants of him available outside of the basic starter pack.

A better way to word it, then, would be, did the people who made the "Card/Website" stats and the people who made the video game stats even TALK to each other? smilie

You've got Gill Grunt, Armor 60/100 on the website, as the most vulnerable character in the game.

Then you've got Flameslinger, Armor 25/100 on the website, with 24 defense in the game (which is only rivaled by the half-dozen or so Skylanders with the max 30 rating, not including the Legendaries).

And of course, Mr. "I'm Too Crazy To Make Sense" Trigger Happy with website Armor 20/100, game Armor 30.

Gill Grunt doesn't get shelved by most players largely because you get him for free, and the only other easily accessible Water element is (ew) Zap. Slam Bam's still fairly uncommon in places and is Adventure Pack only, and Wham-Shell is found rarely if at all.

And he gets an exclusive Trophy/Achievement because he's one of only three characters that could. All trophies must be possible without needing any add-on content. Otherwise, I'm sure they'd gladly have added "Reach Level 10 with all 32 Skylanders" as a Gold Trophy ... smilie

Maybe Gill Grunt just doesn't need the extra armor stat. This is much more apparent when he's taken down the Water Weaver path since by that point, he's pretty tough to hit and his mobility is through the roof while forever floating around on his jetpack.

As for his stats being low compared to others, it is just balancing, every character has their strengths and weaknesses.

...and they could've provided Trigger Happy or Spyro with exclusive achievements too I'm sure...like flipping heads 3 times in a row onto enemies or plowing through 20 enemies at once with one charging attack, but they didn't...they only made one character specific achievement and that was for Gill Grunt...there's nothing mentioned anywhere to think they have it in for Gill Grunt, quite the opposite in fact.

Toys for Bob doesn't hate Gill Grunt. What gave you that idea besides his game stats and lack of Legendary status?,

Just the fact that he's the only character in the entire game to have one stat that's lower than every other character in existence. Nobody even MATCHES him at Armor 6.

(Actually, that's not a true statement - Trigger Happy has a lower health stat than anyone else, but that's made up for by having max stats in everything else.)

Even Stealth Elf is better armored ... and honestly, she should be taking a point of damage for every step she makes in order to balance HER out. smilie

It almost makes me think they coded him wrong, and it was supposed to be a 12 or 18, but they slipped a hexadecimal somewhere. But it's probably just that I'm expecting logical stat balance and they didn't really feel the need to "max/min" that carefully in this game.

Just because his stats are lower than the other Skylanders, it doesn't mean TFB hates Gill Grunt.

I never liked Gilly anyway, so I give zero ships about him. The only reason I even trained him was to help with the final boss, and he died almost instantly.

I use him on the Harpooner path, and he's still pretty awesome. He basically kills everything before any of the enemies can get to him, which kind of negates his armor problem.

Don't piss on Zap. He's adorable and not a lazy, uninspired and lackluster character (unlike Freebie Gill Grunt).

Also, hey smug punk, wipe that grin off your face. He isn't the "only" one of the three characters that could. They could've easily had one for Spyro and Trigger Happy but they didn't. The only one who got it was that useless character even though it is supposed to be an ensemble game with no emphasis on one character.

P.S. "Reach level 10 with all 32 Skylanders" is as close to the "Call Me Fireman!" achievement as oil is to water. Nice try, sad act. xxxo

Because he's a fish. Haven't you ever heard of the saying, "gutted like a fish"?

Normal fish don't have über-hyped-up water hoses to fight back with, though. So he's got THAT going for him.
