I posted a picture of my three gold Skylanders on facebook. She told me that she wants me just as a friend, but before that she was comparing us to Katniss and Peeta from the Hunger Games and she said she would give us a chance. I was absolutely shocked. I explained to her what they were for but she didn't care. Has this happened to anybody else?

Then she's not worth it. Simple as that.
EDIT: Also, Katniss and Peeta would be an awful relationship. Katniss is only "in love" with Peeta to put on a show for the Capitol. That's a really awful comparison if that's what she wanted.

Buuuut.. No. In fact, no one knows I play Skylanders.

Nothing to add really. This sums it up quite nicely. If that's how she reacts to something you're into it would just lead to larger problems down the road. She did you a favor even though it might not seem like it now. |

LOL she's a tacky mess using the worst simile for a relationship.
The fact she rejected you because you actually have an interest in something she doesn't speaks volumes of what an awful person she is. Good riddance, I say. Remember kids, those who really love you for you will always love you for you. None of this "oh, you like xyz? ew bye!" |

lol well, I'm 24 and she's 23, so we aren't really kids, but I get what you are saying. And Katniss and Peeta end up together in the end.

Get the girl first, then start playing Skylanders
My wife swore she would never date a gamer... I always tell her that she is right, she married a gamer. I am also shaping up my daughter so that she'll be able to kick most boys butts at video games. Seriously though, find a girl that accepts you for what you for you. If she is already shallow enough to not like you over a simple hobby, she probably won't accept most of your decisions in life.

Second what everyone else is saying about her not being worth it. There are plenty of girls out there who are fine with Skylanders. My wife loves it even more than I do; she has a full boxed collection, and I only own 50% of our play set. We have a blast together, and humor each others' interests even when we'd normally be skeptical. Case in point, I've watched more than my fair share of My Little Pony with her, and even if it's not my cup of tea, I at least understand it. The right girl would be willing to do that for you. She's probably into some idiotic garbage herself. Point out the stupidity of her own hobbies, and watch her pretend that for some reason it's a different story.
Besides, from the sound of your post, she's been sizing you up for a relationship for some time. If you really like somebody, you don't need to spend forever thinking about whether or not they're worth your time. That should kind of make sense from the outset. I got married 8 months after meeting my wife, because we both knew there was no point wasting time when we were well-aware that it was going to work between us. Haven't been unhappy a single day since. Long story short, forget about her. Plenty of people from all walks of life play Skylanders. I'm in a Ph.D. program, married, and have a kid, but here I am waiting for the new figures anyway, because who cares what anyone else thinks? Find someone who doesn't care either. Find someone who likes it, or likes you enough to give it a chance above her inhibitions, or even just ignores it completely because, despite not caring for Skylanders, she wants to be with you anyway. That's what real relationships are made of, not Hunger Games comparisons. |

Yeah, read that line again. Also, WHO CARES if they end up together (having not read the book), the comparison proves that she isn't mentally mature for anything serious. The rejection further proves it. |

2. She judged you by something so petty. She was a bad catch from the get go, you can do better.

Forget about her! Any person who cannot accept you for the way you are now is going to have a hard time accepting you anytime in the future. You are a package deal and changing yourself to be able to get into any relationship is not right.
Although my wife is not into Skylanders, she's got no complaints because she knows I am a kid at heart. Not only do I enjoy these things but my daughter and I have a blast with anything video game or toy related.

I know you don't plan to sell, but it might help your case to show her what they're really worth. That way, she doesn't just think you're holding on to gold spray-painted toys for what, in her mind, is no reason at all. It should bring her some perspective on the whole "collector" aspect of things, and show her that, while they may be toys, at least you're not hoarding My Little Ponies. If you still have feelings for her, perhaps showing the method behind the madness would help smooth things over.

My advice? This girl ain't worth it, as many others said. Not only because she would judge you over something as silly as a hobby, but she seems to be a bit of a mind game player. That whole thing about "sweetheart" and "buddy"? Seems to me like she's messing with you. As a female myself (and someone who also happens to be attracted to females) I get the impression that she just wants attention and is just toying with you. Pretty immature for a 23 year old really, but alot of girls my age (I'm 19) seem to do it as well.
This is just my perception on the whole thing; I could be wrong. But I think most of the people who commented on this topic are right - go after a girl who accepts your intrests, or heck, maybe even shares them! |

Hey this is what I know if a girl don't like you for who or what you are she aint worth your time. Find a chick that digs what you are into and that will be way better for you. If a girl didn't like me because of my skylanders I would say piss off. I wish you the best of luck, its her loss anyway! Don't worry be happy there are so many girls out there don't hassle it dude.

Don't you realize girls stay petty no matter how old they get. Just like guys stay somewhat immature in the sense of enjoying games made for kids like this one. Guys will always be judged on a superficial basis unless the girl herself enjoys games and other geeky stuff. If that is the case then she will judge superficially based off of not liking games or off of liking what "regular" girls like (i.e. judge you for being really into sports or cars).

I say that's a tough one. If you are a hard working guy...you know, work your full time job or go to school...get things done around the house. I don't see what the big deal is. People have interests and they don't have to be the same ones to get along. Don't let others change you. If you fulfill all your other duties, you earn the right to spend your free time as you wish. Is a whole different story if you wanna laze around the house and do nothing but play video games (and it doesn't sound like that's the case). Good luck with that one.

If the girl didn't want to be with you over something so trivial then she's not worth your time.
I'm a woman and I'm probably one of the biggest nerds around. I'm almost 30, married and have 2 kids and I probably have more toys than both of them combined (And they have ALOT themselves) I play more video games, watch more anime and read more manga than my husband does, and he loaths (Or so he says) my toy collecting, yet he doesn't stop me from doing it. As a matter of fact most of the ones I have he got for me, cus he knows that it makes me happy and he's okay with that. Even though he's not into it himself, he doesn't let it bother him just because things like this isn't what makes a person. If she can't hang with you liking to play Skylanders then she's not for you. Simple as that. And like someone else said earlier, she may be using that as a easy excuse. Also I don't care who knows I play this game, I'm very open about the fandom's I get into. My husband not so much cus he is the type who tends to care a little too much about what others think of him. Me not at all. Its normal to see me hitting up the stores sporting a Mario Shirt and/or Hoodie. I'm proud of my fandoms and no one should bash you for the things you like.

Don't ever change who you are, to be someone else. You are who you are, and won't enjoy your life if you are busy trying to be someone you are not. You shouldn't have to please someone, by giving up what you love. The things you do are what make you who you are. She can either take it or leave it. I know you really like her, but you will end up with a life of change and compromise and then resentment towards her. I bet you'll find someone that likes you for who you are. You shouldn't be afraid to tell anything, to someone that you care about. The truth never hurts, unless you can't accept it.

A couple of basic points here:
- Katniss/Peeta is a horrible model to base a relationship from, for a number of reasons. If she thinks of the two of you in those terms, you're probably better off. (Yes, I'm a 26 year old guy who's read these books... don't judge me.) - Find a girl who will at the very least accept and appreciate that you enjoy spending your time in ways she might not (and, importantly, vice versa). All the better if she's the type of person who'd enjoy taking part in your gaming habit with you, but at the very least she shouldn't see it as a negative factor. If she does, there's already a problem. Relationships are about understanding and connecting with the other person, and there's at least some degree of give and take in that regard.

forget her dude, ignore her and do your thing. I've always done pretty well just doing my thing and ignoring what others say. If something brings you joy then screw what anyone else says and have confidence in yourself. Ignore those that make your stray from your enjoyments in life and eventually you'll find someone that shares that common joy.
P.S. don't post pictures of them on facebook >.> that was just a big no no to begin with. Keep yourself private and mysterious, the opposite sex loves that kinda thing. |
