I'm trying to find a place in the game (PS3 version) that I can use to measure the distance certain attacks travel. It needs to be somewhere with a reasonable length of uninterupted space (monsters and destroyable objects excluded as I can clear them away) but it also needs reference points so I can say, for example:
Spyro's basic fireball attack will travel from *point of reference* to the second rock but after upgrading to Long Range Raze it will travel to the flower after the 3rd rock. (I just made this up as an example of what I want to be able to say)
Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I know what I'm trying to say but I'm not sure I've explained it properly...

Someplace in the ruins would be great. Perhaps you should try around by the core of light?

I've looked around the ruins but I haven't found anywhere suitable to measure dash attacks.

I find Flynn to be the perfect test target~
He's standing near the hot air balloon in the ruins. You know you hit him when he loudly yells "OUCH!" |

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear... I don't want a target, I want an open space with a direct line to dash/fire down that has useful points of reference to use as a measure of distance.

This. But a target will accomplish the same thing... You can fire at the target and keeping moving back until you don't hit it. You'll be able to "measure" the distance that way as well. Domer |

I find by the upgrade fairy is a good place to practice moves so your Skylander is by the fairy and facing out, or you could try the beach, a pretty good place too.

But there still has to be markers in the scenery that I can use to describe the distance. I tried all around the top part of the ruins by Persephone, Flynn and Hugo/Cali but I can't accurately describe the distance using words in that area.

I was curious about this, as well!
While there are plenty of areas with long stretches on space, the camera limits how far you can see down them. Also the slopes mess up some projectiles. I noticed some of them follow the curve of the land and some of them will hit the ground if it isn't completely flat.

Exactly! Even places that look quite good can end up not being suitable. Ideally it needs to be somewhere where you can shoot straight from left to right (or vice versa) so that the distance isn't visably distorted but bottom to top could work too (you can usually see further that way even on a widescreen tv) but often the camera position isn't ideally placed.

I doubt you are going to find the perfect spot in the game where you can both shoot straight without having anything, including the ground in your way and have "markers" to indicate the distances of a shot. So here is an idea.
Find a spot where you can face left or right (the beach seems to work well for this.) Then move your skylander to a position on the screen that can be marked by an object on the background. (For example, directly in front of the sitting robot.) Now, using tape, mark off on your screen increments of equal spacing. You could use one long piece of tape with every inch (or whatever unit of measurement you want. You can even mark half inches or quarter inches if you wish. Now all you have to do is shoot and note how many inches the shot fires. Just list the size of your screen and the resolution you where using and anyone else could convert your distances for your screen and resolution to the distance it would be on their screen. Domer |

I was afraid that might be the case... but I'm seriously not going to stick tape to my new tv... it might leave residue... besides... I doubt anyone would want to bother doing the conversions.
I guess I was asking for too much I'll keep looking for now but I'm losing hope on the matter. Edit: On the Wii version does Flynn stand still at the end of the game? I know some characters move around a bit on the Wii version (Gurglefin being the first example that comes to mind) but I don't remember if Flynn does and I don't have access to the Wii version right now. If he does stand in one position where is it exactly? On the PS3 version he is standing on the lower corner a square slab of rock just behind some flowers near his balloon.
