I decided to pick up the 3DS and PS3 version of the game for my kids. My son has a 3DS so that version was a no brainer. I got the PS3 version because that's all I had. Well I got a great deal on a Wii yesterday so I will also have that console now. I have read some threads comparing both of them but I don't know what to do. I didn't open the PS3 version yet so I could just swap it for the Wii one. Any thoughts? The kids play both consoles and I know the PS3 version will have better graphics. I also read though that the Wii was the lead platform so I am not sure if that matters. Thank in advance!

Personaly, I would buy the pack for the system your kids play with the most. However, it was origianlly for the Wii. Many people on this thread have discovered many glitches in the PS3 and Xbox one and only few in the wii one. However one of the glitches On the wii is very helpful.

I had the Wii version but I exchanged it for the PS3 version, having played both I feel I made the right decision... especially as the PS3 version is not suseptable to the game-breaking Weapons Master bug... the PS3 version is not bug free but none of its bugs are serious,
Obviously the graphics are better on the pS3 version but it is lacking a few small touches that the Wii version has... and the PS3 platforms in Lair of Kaos are annoying but overall I'm totally happy with my decision to exchange for the PS3 version. Also the PS3 version has trophies but the Wii version does not. Double Trouble's heroic challenge is "nintendo hard" (read "near-impossible") with many Skylanders on the Wii but is much easier on the PS3. But the Wii has the money cheat with the Pirate Seas treasure chest... this could be a plus or a minus depending on your opinion of glitch exploitation.

I personally like the Wii version. The Lair of Kaos is better in the Wii and it is easier to grind on the Wii version because it is missing the moving platform area which takes a minute to get through.

Well they currently play the PS3 a lot but I know that will change once the Wii arrives. They have been wanting one for awhile but I was trying to wait until the Wii U. That changed when I got a great deal. I have a feeling that they will be playing the Wii more when it arrives (my son loves mario and zelda on his 3DS). |

Graphics honestly won't be an issue as the kids think the Wii looks good (even after playing HD games on the PS3 for the last couple of years). My kids are 4 and 6 so I definitely want to get the version that is the most friendly. I am sure I will play with them from time to time but mostly it will be them. I have one of each element figure wise and will stop there for now. I won't buy every figure so probably just a few more and the adventure pack. |

Get the HD version if you have the option. Presentation-wise, it's on a different level from the Wii, and trophy/achievement support adds replay value that the Wii version simply can't have. It's a better, longer, and more polished game.

Go for the Wii. PS3/XBox may have better graphics, but Skylanders isn't the kind of game to look realistic. Wi version is much better.

Well from what I've seen the Wii version is actually a bit harder than the PS3 version, the final battle with Kaos is harder and as I said before Double Trouble's heroic challenge is far far too hard for kids that age on the Wii...

where are people getting double troubles challenge is hard on the wii i have done it with all 36 of my skylanders while they were fully upgraded its not that hard to do just takes patience and good timing. i have the ps3, 3ds, and wii versions and i play mos t of the time on the wii version as its the version i prefer i cant stand chaos lair on the ps3 version cause those stupid riding platforms are a waste of time and slow down the completion of the lvl also the wii version of chaos lair is easier to grind i can take a lvl 1 skylander and get him to 10 in about 5min playing the wii version of chaos lair.
Graphics dont bug me wii with component cables is just fine especially sense i have my wii hooked up only to a 26" hdtv and its just fine for the wii. Yes the wii version is the lead version and the only one to be made by toys for bob hence alot of the differences between the different version

the PC version (ive played everything except the ps3 version) is by far my favorite. if you have a decent computer, it looks freakin' beautiful. and if you have a gaming machine, its like perfection. and the PC version hasnt had any of the bugs that the ps3/360 has had (i started with the 360 version and got the pc version later when it was on sale). my 360 has the bugs, and glitches, and i hate how far complete i am on that one, but since its been said they wont make a pc version for giants. ill just have to keep my 360 version for the future.
in summary pc > wii > ps3/360 and the 3ds is a totally different game so that doesnt count.

PS3, since your kids are 4 and 6 they may encounter the game breaking Weapons Master glitch and rage.......raging 4 and 6 year olds are not a good thing. Though, you could still get the Wii version but play it with them once they get up to the Weapons Master.

I have the Wii and PC versions. The Wii has a wireless portal instead of the wired PS3 portal. To me that is a plus. Some people complain about batteries but mine lasted throughout the game and I don't have to worry about my cats attacking a wire that I would have stretched across the living room.
Other than portal preference, I don't see a big enough reason for you to exchange it. |

I chose the PS3 version because I like the controller for game system and the PS3 is the newest generation I have.

I disagree. I have the PS3 version, but I have played the Wii version at a friend's house. I have played the final level and done the final battle solo on both versions and I can say with certainty that the PS3 version is harder. One notable difference is that in the PS3 version when you have to get the last two keys for the gate you have to go onto circular platforms with four claws around the edges and try to avoid getting hit too much while the platform moves to the area with the key. Some characters can only get hit a couple of times, but there is NO way to avoid taking any damage. On the Wii version, these platforms do not exist, the area with the keys is directly connected to the path. I have noticed no difference in heroic challenges, they seem to be the same level of difficulty (at least for the ones I have done - I do not have Double Trouble, so I cannot speak to that challenge). |

I would go with WII. The controls are more child friendly, and, like people have been saying, the game was intended for Wii, meaning less glitches, and, unless you love to use every charge attack at it's full, Wii is the one to go with. I suggest getting some figures first, based on other parts of the forum, and on what you think, then post them. Then, based on what figures you have, you can make the desicion.

Wii has easy controls; A,B, and Z.
It is unique. It has blue bounce pads. Stated Gereral Robot is Clam-Tron 4000's dad. Lair of Kaos has isles instaed of circles. Smaller sets of glitches. IMO, IDK of your opinion. I dunno about the PS3.

The Wii does have certain advantages but I do not regret selling it and changing to the XBox version - the graphics are so much better and this makes it more realistic, not less. The Wii version has its own (smaller) set of glitches - including the game breaking one (which XBox/PS3 does not have).

If you read my post properly you'll see I wasn't talking about Lair of Kaos, I was talking about the boss fight at the end which is harder because: Quote: Spyrobaro
Edit: Ninja'd: Quote: AJAwesome
Not true, Kaos NEVER regenerates health in the PS3 version making it noticably easier. Oh and one more thing: Zap's Sea Slime Slide is much worse on the Wii... I've never seen anyone mention it before here but when I played Zap on the Wii on Thursday I noticed that you can't keep his slime electrified without the Slime Serpent upgrade... on the PS3 as soon as you get the upgrade that allows you to electrify the slime you can create a continuous trail of electrified slime by tapping the square button repeatedly but on the Wii if you tap B the slime appears in a broken trail and only the first part will be electrified.

On the wii, I just hold B to make the slime, then when it stops, I do it again. Also, there are numerous character advantages-if you like Ghost Roaster and Drill Sergeant and Flameslinger, get the PS3 version-if you like Eruptor, go for the Wii version.

Yes but you have to stop and turn around after each slime to electrify it on the Wii... on the PS3 (without the upgrade) you just electrify the slime trail once and it stays electrified unless you take a pretty long break. This makes Zap much easier to use on the PS3 version.

Oh right-I don't think I understood the first time. Sorry. I don't think that it really matters to be honest-they are both pretty much the same and both have advantages and disadvantages. I already mentioned the characters, but Kaos is easier to beat on the PS360, but the level is worse, while the PS360 has more bugs, but the wii has a game breaking one-the weapon master glitch. Drobot's heroic challenge is harder on the PS360, while Double Trouble's is harder on the wii.
