I was just wondering if Sunburn could fly or not. I haven't seen him fly in any videos, yet he has wings :/

No he does not fly. He has a teleport and a dash but no sustained flight.

The soul gem upgrade is called Flight of the Pheonix. What does that do if he can't fly?

Nope. No flight. I don't like characters that can't fly anyways.

How can he not fly? -.- he can't fly when you first buy him, but he still can't fly with upgrades? I doubt that. He'd be the only character with wings who couldnt fly.

Now I have no reason to use him at all. I wanted Sparx more than him anyways...but...really...wow this is horrendous.

Yeah, it's certainly weird, especially because placing him on the portal and viewing him in the info menu has him flying.

Flight of the Phoenix simply improves his dash attack. That's his "Z" attack (special), which is normally what the flying is. He's still pretty awesome and strong, but a mostly missed opportunity on that front.

Flying increases their speed (at least a tiny bit, and if not, it at least seems like it does, and it makes them a lot more fun to play with)...plus if they can fly they can fly over water...so you don't always need a water skylander to go in water or a fire skylander to walk on lava if you can fly

I don't really see the big deal. Yes, it is a bit odd that he has wings and yet can't fly. If there was any winged skylander that I would expect not to fly, it would be Drobot. But anyway, that flying was sacrificed for a phoenix dash, which I think is better. Toys for Bob probably decided that since he could already move quickly and avoid things with teleporting and phoenix dashing, there was no need to add flight.

Ah, but here's the thing, he's half dragon, half pheonix. Both of these animals FLY. Sonic boom is half bird half LION, yet she flies! It just seems kinda contradictory. I understand why they did it, it's just kinda weird.

^ That was a funny comic, thanks for sharing. Whirlwind is half unicorn-half dragon yet she can fly and Gill Grunt can fly/hover with his water pack, so why can't Sunburn fly? They really should have made him fly, oh well...

Dragons don't necessarily have to fly. Traditionally, yes, when you think of a dragon you think of a big lizard with wings, but not all dragons have wings. I just had to point that out.

Now a Phoenix on the other hand. Yeah, that one flies. Maybe Sunburn is a mix of a flightless dragon and an ostrich like phoenix?

The thing people don't seem to understand about Sunburn not being able to fly in-game is the fact that if he COULD, it'd break the balance of being able to reach secret arias and shortcuts.

He's a FIRE Skylander, and thus he is able to walk over lava. If he were able to fly, he'd also have to be able to cross water as well. There aren't suppose to be Skylanders that do BOTH (At least in the first game), they can't code it so Sunburn can't go over lava, cuz that would make people whom are only getting one of each element who chose him angry because they can't reach their secret arias, and they can't break the consistency of being able to fly over water or people would complain about that too.

Sunburn already has speed moves, both of which do damage, he doesn't NEED to fly, it'd just kick out a move that does damage for a move that is just pleasing to the eye.

In story cannon, he CAN fly, just look at the trailer, he just can't in game for the reasons listed above. If you want some sort of story reason why he won't fly IN-GAME, maybe it's because he likes to show off by teleporting, and the doesn't like to cross water because, well, he's a FIRE Skylander. *Shrug*

I was hoping sunburn could spread his wings andfly bc it would look awesome. But when you put it into perspctive he has 3 attack powers thats better than having 2.

I think flight as a Skylander's special attack is actually a bit lame... it's nice to have that speed boost (and I think it offers a small armour boost too) but it always comes at the cost of maneuverability... and also the loss of a potential extra attack (except with Drobot whose flight causes damage and I suppose you can count Spyro's earth pound... sorta).

It's nice to see winged characters fly but really the only thing it's useful for is crossing water and seeing as how all 4 water types can swim, plus Stump Smash. Then there's Double Trouble who can walk on water and the flighted Skylanders: Spyro (and his 2 variants), Drobot, Sonic Boom, Whirlwind, Cynder... did I miss anyone? So that's 11 not including L and D Spyros... 13 seperate figures can cross water from 6 different elements... Do we really need more?

I expect fire type Skylanders would want to avoid water so their flames don't get put out.

I like 3 attacks :S anyway, he flys when he gets put on the Portal of Power but not in-game. :S just how it functions

At first I was upset that he didn't fly. But I'm cool with it since the phoenix dash is awesome. I really don't like using flight in the game, they don't manuever so well. Especially Drobot.

well if find drobot's flying the only interesting just because it's hard to use

I think it'd be annoying anyway if he could fly AND teleport. I hate when you're flying and you do a move that grounds you, so maybe it's better off that way. He's still BA.

If by definition all dragons must fly, then why wouldn't Bash and Zap be able to fly? There are considered dragons, at least by, I believe, Toys for Bob and Activision.
Giving a Skylander the ability to fly shouldn't really be an upgrade, it should be an inherent trait of the character or a characteristic of another upgrade. Flying takes away from the character having 3 attacks, except in the case of Drobot, due to Afterburns, and Spyro, due to earth pound attack thing.

This is true to an extent.
Zap can still fly, but in water and Bash is a miss happen Dragon who was born without wings. Which makes him a mistake.
Zap's inheritance is of a dragon and a sea serpent, the sea serpent being the father means it has more dominance and thus he cannot fly.
Bash as I said is a mistake and he still learnt a better skill then flight, he can roll and if you chose Pulver Dragon then he is a fking boulder on steroids.
Camo was mentioned as being born at the tree of life, which makes no sense in why HE can't fly as he should've been born much stronger because of that and not disadvantaged. He should have leafy wings that allow him to fly. Perhaps it's because he digs into the ground though. Sunburn is even more retarded now as Warnado an fly and he's a tortoise!!! My lord!
