My Portal Broke :( [CLOSED]

After only two months, my Portal broke. The wireless receiver won't locate the Portal and vice versa. I called Activision Support and the representative asked me if I had tried the syncing button and I said, "Well, yeah. Of course." And then I was informed that my Portal was busted.

So here I've been sitting, wanting a break from all of the university work I have to do and I have no Skylanders. (I've been spending my time playing Star Wars Battlefront II.)

I had to ship my Portal out on Monday, it reached them yesterday, and I'm hoping they send me a new Portal at least by Saturday so I can have Skylanders late next week. (Apparently their customer service is either in Texas or that's the nearest one to me.)

I iz a sad panda because I'm finally getting a Dark Spyro on Monday and my boyfriend got me Cynder for Valentine's Day. Plus I got Whirlwind last month, after raving about her irl, and she's sitting at level 6 and waiting to be maxed out. Without a Portal, the game's useless.

In all honesty, it just stopped connecting to the wireless receiver for my PS3. I tried new and old-ish batteries (as recommended by the customer rep), and while the Portal had power, the LED on it continued to blink in search of the wireless receiver. The LED on my wireless receiver continued to blink in search of the Portal.

I never dropped the Portal or abused it in any way. Every time I was done playing Skylanders, I put the Portal with my figures in a shoebox and kept them nice and neat on a shelf. It was quite a surprise when I went to play it after purchasing new batteries for it and it wasn't working.

I am not implying anything with this, but have you recently added any new devices to your house? The bluetooth connectivity cound be receiving interference from something. Its a tad late now, but it would have been interesting if you could have moved the ps3 and portal to a different room to try it.

The only thing that happened was I took my PS3 and the Portal over to my boyfriend's house and he hooked up an HDMI cable to the PS3. There hasn't been any new devices in my house.

I should've tried to solve the problem myself, but I was worried that I'd end up having to pay for a new Portal or something because I had to send the old one back. :/ It would've been fun to tinker with, though. I think if another one breaks on me (not that I want that), I'll try to find the solution myself.

Thanks for your suggestion, Monsinour.

Hopefully my PS3 portal doesnt decide it has a two month expiration date on it either because its creeping up on that amount of time now.

This is why I'm probably going to go ahead and buy the Giants game with the portal. Probably won't be a big price difference, and it gives me a backup portal.

I have the 3DS one as a back up but I havent tried to see if it actually works on the PS3 because its smaller and makes co-op kinda impossible. I know the XBox one from posts on the board here seems to only work on the Xbox, because Microsoft is shifty like that. The 3DS one works great with the computer though. My wife and I also decided we'd get the starter pack with the portal with Giants to have a backup since the price is likely only to be maybe a few bucks difference.

A timeline would be:

Black Friday - Skylanders Starter Pack for PS3 purchased.
December 16 - Started playing.
January 28 - Last day of playing.
February 6 - Realize Portal isn't working.
February 10 - Try new batteries and call Activision. Get warranty paperwork handled.
February 13 - Ship out broken Portal.

I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. It's pretty annoying, if not frustrating. I didn't even play it constantly or too often. Maybe 3 times a week for 3 hours, max. I can't play video games for too long anymore. My mind starts telling me the other stuff I have to get done. Lol

It's a good idea, in all honesty. Having a back-up saves you from waiting the two weeks or longer. (I'm estimating that long.) It'll keep your kids happy, too.

i will probably do the same thing. my portal sucks batteries and is bugged (sometimes doesn't recognize some skylanders).

They all do. Get rechargeable batteries. I bought some "eneloops" on amazon.com for a reasonable price. Will pay for themselves in a few months, easy. And I bought enough to put them in our Wiimotes, too, saving even more.

Yep. Definitely tried that. I don't know why the Portal would need to be resynced unless the HDMI cable did something (which is doubtful). Like I said, I didn't have any new hardware installed and no one plays the PS3 right now, so there wasn't a different game played between my Skylanders sessions.

Just to let everyone know, it looks like I'll be receiving my new Portal tomorrow. It looks like it takes about a week to have your new one reach you, but it feels like forever.

Here's to hoping no one else has a Portal of their own break. Activision is quicker with replacing a broken figure under warranty than a Portal - seems rather backwards if you ask me.
