So, I was just reading a fantasy book when it mentioned a mythical creature known as the Leviathan. Apparently, after doing some research online, the Leviathan is known to be a rather large sea serpent that roams the seas in desperation for prey.

Turns out Toys For Bob's Leviathan wasn't an original creation.

Check your greek and roman mythology. Leviathan is older than a 7blue 11/11 timmy play.

Actually, Leviathan is a direct reference to my mother-in-law and she pre-dates both the Greek and Roman empires by quite some centuries.

The earliest documented reference to my MIL is ancient Sumerian but the premise is that she had a name before even then and people simply refused to write it down, in fear...

I'm a mythology nerd so here's everything that I know :

Leviathan ( also know as Livjatan "Coiling") is a vast primordial serpent of Hebrew mythology, that encircles the world in the cosmic ocean. Said to be more than 900 miles long, with seven heads and 300 eyes, it is the Ugaritic god of evil. It is nearly always referenced with its enemy, the Behemoth, and its name has been applied to various gigantic sea monsters, including whales and Sea Serpents. It seems like Leviathan is the Hebrew version of Tiamat ( also known as the "Cosmic Serpent") which is another large Cosmic serpent depicted sometimes with seven to thirteen heads and also encompasses the world.

The Asian version of the Leviathan is depicted as a gigantic fish that creates Tsunamis to terrorize villagers and their crops. It seems like the Asian version of the Leviathan was used for the design of the Leviathan in Skylanders and in the 3DS version it flies in the sky like the serpent version in Hebrew mythology. I don't know where you got your information but the original serpent Leviathan in mythology doesn't swim in an actual sea such as an ocean or water but in the cosmos (outer space). The current and rendered version of the Leviathan used in moves and told in stories is a water serpent though so maybe that's what they were describing but I prefer the original versions of mythology and not modern times alterations.

That seems very unoriginal to me!
There was also flowers there too... gosh, can't they use anything better!?

But seriously: Leviathan is referenced/used a few times in different places. I know Leviathan has been mentioned in a few Final Fantasy games(And Chocobo's Dungeon).

Leviathan is also a boss in Dragon Quest IX.

Leviathan is also those turtle-like sea monsters from TEN.

Leviathan is also the name of a MegaMan Zero character. She's an android with Ice powers, and can transform into what resembles a sea monster (not sure what it is exactly).

The leviathan is in final fantasy xi!

You HONESTLY thought that the leviathan was an original concept? Let me guess, trolls and cyclopes are original concepts too? There are hardly any fantasy books, games, TV shows, films ETC these days that come up with their own names for creatures.

I haven't read it for quite some time, but don't they use the term frequently in "Moby Dick"?

You think out of all the characters; where there are dragons with different elements( mainly pointing at the fire breathing ones), a griffon, elves/drows, trolls, and other mythical beings are original.
BUT
Then you look up a minor character(or major in the perspective of the level it appears in alone) is unoriginal?

Yes, Leviathan has been used a lot in modern culture and throughout history. The term Leviathan seems to be implied with most sea monsters and serpents these days but originally there was only one Leviathan ( with different variations in each culture) because he was known as a god. Pegasus seems to be another word used in modern times to describe any winged horse but there was originally only one Pegasus.

I don't know if anyone saw my last replay, if you want to learn more about Leviathan please read it. I'm sorry that it's a long post.

Leviathan is ORIGINALLY from the bible

I don't think it is in the bible.

^ Yes, that is the "Serpent Hebrew" version that I'm talking about, it's the original one used in the Bible. I forgot to mention that he's one of the seven princes of Hell and is its gatekeeper.

^ No I wasn't trying to imply that, I'm very sorry if I offended anyone. I respect all religions and what people believe in. I haven't even read the whole Bible yet. I forget most of the things that I read from the Bible so I thought he might of forgotten it to, I assumed that he read part of the Bible because he said that he didn't think that Leviathan was in it. Heck, I'm not even going to read the whole Bible, most of it is symbolism anyway and written in old English. so I'm really sorry again if I offended anyone I hope you guys can forgive me.
