I was just wondering will you guys and gals think about getting the Wii U or the upcoming Vita if there is an exclusive Skylanders game or figures???
Personally I probably would. haha Would be great to have more content. I do love my Xbox tho and my 3Ds but Skylanders rules!!!
Vicarious Visions has 3 projects in the works ... one for Wii U so maybe one is already Skylanders???

I will be forced into getting a Wii U due to my son's need to play games at all hours of the day. With the ability to play games on the controler without interfering with the TV, its a no brainer for this household.

Nintendo recently announced that they'll be doing a Wii U controller technology that will be similar to Skylanders.

If you go to the nintendo channel and search for Wii U videos, you should be able to watch the video from VV about what they are developing for the Wii U. I remember watching it around E3 last year.

I can't see a company putting effort in a spin-off or sequel for a single platform.

Given that the Wii U will play standard Wii games but upscale the image, I think the powers to be will consider this to be good enough. Then again, there will also be a market for Wii U specific games (a la Lego City Stories).

I foresee that the inevitable sequel will be for Wii U, though.

Considering that the Wii U will have NFC built in and it should be released in time for christmas this year, I agree completely.

I don't know if Toys for Activision will use the Wii U tech, though? I think they would want to stick to something generic and possible for all consoles rather than proprietary...

Umm......the current skylanders use NFC now. I just read quite a few articles on this.

Oh, I have not read any of the tech specs but my understanding was that SL used a simple variant of RFID and not the later spec NFC standard?

Nintendo being Nintendo, I can foresee that they will do a proprietary version and try to license connectivity to it (a la XBox's variant of wireless comms to controllers).

No no no...

The Skylanders figures actually use the RFID tech, each figure has a chip in - which is why the portal can read them even if their a bit off the base. NFC has a smaller range and therefore less easy to be intercepted and replicated

NFC has a 7 to 8 inch range. And I apologize, it is RFID. I read too many articles and must have glossed over the word "like" as in ,"Skylanders uses NFC like communication in the game with their portal and figures."

Honestly, I don't see a Pokemon themed one working well, unless they have a low price for the figures.

Right now, the Jakks Pacific figures that they make are crappy quality plastic and retail for about the same price that the Skylanders are at now. I've seriously wanted to get figs of Tepig and Zekrom for my collection, but I can't justify spending that on some dinky figure that I KNOW I can get something better with the same amount of cash.

And then those inevitably get moved to the reduced price aisle. And although something like this has happened before, the prices were just too high for the TFG figures. (Even though they were beautiful looking)

Skylanders hit it good in the $7.99-$9.99 range. It's just enough to not set people over the edge with "It's HOW MUCH?!" and not so cheap that they'd loose money on it. If they do have a sequel, they'd have to keep them in the same price range or lose people over the prices.
