A topic on the possibility (and the highly likelihood) that there will be a sequel to the Skylanders franchise.
First off, what would you like to see in it?
For me, online play (I guess online brawls and battles and other fun mini games on WiFi)
As well as being able to jump. Being able to jump adds a whole nother level of depth to the game letting you jump where you want. It's a very
good difference that the 3DS version has that the console version doesn't have. It also gives a bit more personality to the Skylanders.
I would also like to see a longer storyline and a harder storyline. I think Activision realizes that this isn't a game only the kids are playing, so it'd be nice if we got a more in depth storyline that's a bit harder. A minigame mode might also be nice (instead of all the heroic challenges, would be cool to have like a Skylanders race or something, think Pokemon Stadium mini-games)
And finally the last question is, how do you think it would work?
Most likely they would HAVE to let us use older figures on the new game, or else face outrage (and possibly horrible sales FROM the outrage) if they didn't so how do you think they'd make it work? All the characters levels are saved on each Skylander, do you think we'd be forced to reset the Skylander to level 1 to be able to use them or do you think they'll find a way to make Lvl 10 equal to level one in the new game. It's confusing. I honeslty have no idea how they'll do it, but i wouldnt have much of a problem resetting my characters if it was necessary.
Also, think anyone else from the Spyro universe will become a Skylander?

I agree it is starting to get expensive! I would like to see a new game just using these Characters and maybe just a few like 6 new Characters. That would be great! Things I would like to see added in new one....a jump button! Co-op campaign! Maybe a meeting place online, like the computer universe one.

Only thing I want to see is compatibility with current Skylander figures. I can handle releasing another figure for each element, or possibly creating a completely new element or two. But if I can't use my current figures on a sequel, I'll be pissed.

I cant agree more. I talked about this with the missus and she said that if the new game does not allow the current figures to work, there is no way we will get it. Beyond that, online play and the ability to jump would be my #2 and #3. My secret #4 is to allow the characters to level up beyond 10 and somehow offer new skills.

Which doesn't seem likely since all the data is saved on the figure...and im assuming they can't just change that. They might be able to though >.< I mean I guess a new game could overwrite old data and make new higher level data on the chip. The only thing is I would assume if you saved new data onto your character you would no longer be able to use him with the original game and only use him wit hthe new game now. Hmm.

Nah, doubt that highly. The information that these things store is rather large. The area withing the figure to store it is rather small. This leads me to believe that the information is not stored in binary but in hexadecimal. Based on that, the smallest # a level could be is 15 and that would only take up one spot. The amount of $ a character can have is infinite (unless there is proof of an actual cap) and would need a rather large spot to accommodate that. This game may not allow the character to level up past A (10 in hex) but it doesn't mean the game cannot display a character that is level 15. Then again, storage tech has advanced soo much in such a short time, who is to say just how much info can be stored on that wafer thin piece?

But what if you put your current Skylanders 1 figure on the game Skylanders 2, you level over level 10 with more abilities and you put back your figure on the first game?
If they want to do that, they will need to patch the first game I think |

Na, the way around that is to limit the first game to either do 1 of 2 things : 1: ignore any value over X 2: automatically round down to highest value Believe me, if the people at Toys for Bob are so brilliant, these questions were already asked and accounted for. I happen to think they are brilliant and they have thought of this.

But they needed to think about that when doing the first game or they will need to patch it.
So while doing the first game, they needed to think about "What if there's a next game?" "What if the next game has higher levels?" Or maybe the characters from the first game won't be able to level over level 10 but will be compatible with the second game, and the characters from the second game won't be compatible with the first game but will be able to level over level 10? |

Trust me on this, your questions were asked in a conference room somewhere and have already been answered. I am telling you, it is easier to go with my 2 answers to those problems above. The only real issue is if there is space on the figure to store "new" moves/skills. It would be ignored by the first game as it would be in an "unreadable" area.

Kinda, it wouldn't be stored with the actual names. Having the skills listed individually beyond the upgrade path would just be a series of hex characters. Honestly, I think the information is stored like so : XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - This would store any nickname that might be given to the figure. It should currently store the figures name and then be overwritten if it is changed. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - This would store how much $ the figure has XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - This would store the amount of EXP the figure has (game uses formula to determine level) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - This would store what hat the figure is wearing (front half) This would also store what skills the figure has (back half) Obviously the EXP line could be split in half and the first line would be alphanumeric. Based on the last 3 lines being hexadecimal, the total possible combinations for each line is 2.951479051793528e+20. That is a rather large bit of information. Say I am wrong and they are only using 8 spots to store the info instead of 16. Each line would then be able to hold 68719476736 possible combinations. Still a rather large bit of info.

These were the ideas I posted on their Facebook page.
*******1: Longer game. 2: More Skylanders 3: Current 37 Skylanders are compatible. Can be leveled up 10 more levels, and capable of learning new moves. 4: A hub that is designed for exploration. Maybe one could find secret bonus levels on top of ...story levels, by meeting the right requirements. 5: Maybe shift the game from arcade-style dungeon crawler, to a fully 3D game, with platforming and puzzle solving elements. 6: Increased difficulty, because us adults want challenge. Perhaps a choice of easy, normal, hard, insane. 7: Each level should be able to be gotten to via a central hub. Encourage traveling to each destination the first time. You can chapter select after beating said stage. One tedious part, about part 1, is every 3 chapters was gotten to by the same person. 8: An extension of 4: Have a lot of secrets to uncover in the hub that lead to secret levels or bonus games. 9: Make every level have secret elemental gates that aren't visible (similar to the part of chapter 2, that allows you to find a hidden path, but there is no gate. This increases exploration. I keep imagining a Skylanders sequel, with a hub full of many secrets and exploration, like Mario 64. Levels are gotten to in the same way. Also, each level could have objectives, like a Mario game. They just need to stretch the game out, to make people want to play. So, I will ad a 10 and 11. 10: Each level should have multiple objectives, not just collecting. 11: Each character has their own bonus level tailored to their style of play.

Adding more Skylanders based from the Spyro's Franchise (Hunter, Blink, Sgt Bird.... ¡¡¡BIANCA!!!) Making a very but VERY Long Story line (50 or 100 hrs, just like any Final Fantasy > ) A Game filled with SUPER-DUPER-ULTRA secrets areas and Stuff Adding more stats for the skylanders (Change the Max Level to 15 or 25 and Adding more Skills) Adding an Exploration System to the main land, I mean, Exploring the forest, Beach, Dungeons (Like Final Fantasy, but using your Skylander to explore and getting more treasure and XP)

That feel when Wii gets kicked to the curb again. The Skylanders figures actually are DLC. You're just buying them at a store, rather than in a game marketplace. Which works a lot better, especially for parents who don't want to spend that on the kids downloading things. The figures are at least a physical object. So for them to put extra DLC in the game wouldn't be a smart move financially. Personally, I'd of course like new characters. At least as many as this time, maybe more? In the least, I'd like one for each element to round them off to 5. -As for the characters we've already leveled up, I could see them resetting them to 1 on the sequel, but still keeping their level on the original game. Might be cool to even up the level to 20 or something. -More post-game content. Yes, we all like going back to get 100%, but that only goes so far. The expansions were a great idea because it gave you an extra level to play through, not to mention a few other goodies. Skylands are giant floating islands; there's an endless amount of things to be out there. -Some sort of connected money/online connections. Of course the basic play with friends, wifi matches, etc. But also some connection with Universe. It's a great idea, but even still being in beta there's a lot of work that needs to be done on it. As for money, I HATE having nothing to spend it on. My Spyro is fully leveled, all upgrades and I have 30,000 coins to just sit on there for nothing. Extra content could be unlocked with that, like the ability to switch between paths (along with having to unlock them obviously), maybe extra hats, some sort of personal base or house to use. And then tie THAT in with Universe too. Seriously, how is someone supposed to get a lot of coins there? -Mouth flaps. It never really annoyed me in other games, but this one has a PHENOMENAL voice cast. But the characters in the game have loose mouth flaps that kind of ruin it. The dialogue has ended, but the characters look like Japanese movie rejects with the mis-timed movings. -Something for the NPCs to actually do. I like Hugo walking around, but I'd like them to serve some purpose other than just being there after you beat the game. Animal Crossing has all the NPCs give you quests or other things to do, which could improve the replayability of a sequel. -Concrete release dates. Yeah, I understand that the success came out of nowhere and caused a shortage. But I can't help but feel if there was a concrete release date that this would happen. "January" isn't the same as "January 20th" on the dot. (Of course, this has probably netted Activision a pretty penny since they're doing the whole false commodity thing but whatever)

- Online Play
- Massive/Sandbox World (Add this to the online feature and we have a MMORPG kinda) - Portal of Power like the one of 3DS (You put the skylander and you can turn off the portal. Saves batteries) - Actual DLC not just adventure packs which is already on disc anyway - Tournament Mode (Similar to Pokemon, due skylanders has an elemental weakness anyway) - Increased Level Cap (This will make the first Skylanders more replayable) - More upgrades for the skylanders we have now (Same as above) - Challenge bonuses affects to all of them, not just the ones who completed it (Less tedious and time wasting)

I don't know if the "turn off portal" concept would work with the console play style?
After all, how would you swap chars mid level? How would you use the Ghost Swords or Healing Elixir? Doesn't the 3DS version force you to use 2 pre-selected chars for the level and then the level is a race against time? (I.e. no mid-level char change?)

First off, what would you like to see in it?
-- Online play -- Activision to produce enough figures from the get go!! And finally the last question is, how do you think it would work? How about... raising the level cap to 20? That would encourage a longer storyline mode to be created to accomodate the gamer if each character has to be played more. Also, think anyone else from the Spyro universe will become a Skylander? I don't know about from the Spyro universe, seeing as how I'm honestly not a Spyro fan. I'd love to see Activision make some use out of all the developers they have been buying over the years and bring some old mascots back from the dead. For example, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger WOULD HAVE made a great Dino-rang, but that is pointless now. I have no idea who has the rights to the old mascots... I'll have to do some research to see who Activision could potentially have... spyroflame0487: Quote:
DLC in this case has so many advantages over the figures in store model. Digital content would be much cheaper to "produce" (if I can use that word when talking about digital content) than the figures would be. Also, the lack of supply and scalpers would be a non-issue if everyone had to buy online. You would still see the large following that Skylanders has generated (all of which would probably still pay 5-8 dollars per character without Activision having to pay to mass produce the figs) and the empty shelves and disappointed kids would be a thing of the past.
