I created this iPhone/iPad universal app over the holidays. (Sorry no droid love.) Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for an update. I will update it once the new characters are released of course with a free update. Its not a game port of Skylanders of course but an unofficial reference for collectors of the toys themselves. I think you'll like the 360 views of the figs.

I would like to get it but not for 2.99 it seems more like a .99 app to me

there's a different app for droid but it doesn't look this polished yet...
please port this to android market!

Personally, as a developer, I can appreciate how much effort would have gone into it. I think the $2 more is measily when compared to how much I have spent on figs.

Since it's unofficial, he/she probably has the rights to do it. Not 100% sure, though.

Not if he/she is making money with it. I just want to be sure, it would be sad to have problems because of that =/

Whilst it is not a guarantee, Apple is very mindful of these things and selective on the apps it allows in its store.

I can't see an issue as I perceive that it uses images that the developer took and is clearly marked as unofficial.

It does not refactor any Activision code or purport to have any functionality other than listing the figurines and marking them as owned.

It would be nice if it catered for variants. I was going to add "hint, hint" but hints are subtle...

Good questions as to whether to include silvers if you want to say you have a complete collection. I think most folks had a hard time getting them since it was too easy for scalpers to find them with the clear packaging and obvious resale value, and so its not fair to count them as required for completeness. I don't want folks supporting ebay sales buying expensive silver figures. I included the Vault since it was in a starter kit that was easy to get at the time, if you knew about it that is. In response to the questions below as to whether I have the silvers - I do not have them. If I thought it was a must to have them that could change but right now I think this is the right course.

$3 is a tad high for nothing more than a checklist with pics.

Cool idea but it should not be more than 99 cents considering the amount of amazing apps and games that aren't even that expensive. As others have said, it's just a slideshow of the figures.

It costs £1.99 for this app in the UK, I got it yesterday and I must say, I am very impressesed with it.
The image quailty is very high on the figures and it is nice to be able to rotate the figures, but perhaps also please include top and bottom views in the next update?
It might also be worth including a note with each figure as to their current availablility, be it single pack, triple pack with X Y figure or starter pack figure. I compiled such a list for my own use so please ask if you want to use it
I expect in the future I will just show shop staff a picture of a figure I am looking for with this app, than trying to explain the difference in the figures.

If you're collecting the figures then do download this app, it's handy to keep your collection list with you than trying to remember what you have!

@chaoswarrior - I agree the $2 is not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. However, in the realm of iPhone apps, there is a big difference between a .99 app and a 2.99 app. When I look at it in that regard, I won't pay 2.99 for this app. As much as I would like a Skylanders app on either of my Apple devices, this still doesn't have enough for me to purchase.

@cherryhill - I find your logic to be pretty flawed when it comes to the difference between variant figures and the volcanic vault. Saying people knew how to get it is simply not true. Perhaps a handful knew, but I did not, and I got into this in early November. Anyone that picked it up for Christmas will have no idea what that item is and no way to get it other than eBay. At least with the gold and silver variants there is still a possiblity of finding one on a store shelf.

If you're required to have the item in your possession in order to take the photos necessary for your app, then I certainly understand why you wouldn't want to include them. But in that case, just come out and admit it - it's not going to hurt the credibility of your app.

Sorry but what do you mean by gameport app? Do you mean an iOS version of the game? If so, then I somehow doubt that it will be free.

I really like the app and I don't think there's anything wrong with the price. I would just like it to be updated with the new figures (Cynder, EOI and Double Trouble) and maybe photos taken from above? Great so far though

I bought the app, but do you think you can also add hats, accolades, treasures and mabye have a page for us to keep the stats of my skylanders on.

if you had more stuff like this in the app. being able to keep track of more then just my figure collection i would be more willing to spend that much on the app

Looked into it but for that price, I can just keep up with them myself. A lot of other apps out there that do a lot more for that price. I think this app should be .99

I'd buy it for that price.

I'm only allowed to get free apps, but, I will have a look into it if I can get one of those iTunes Vouchers.

Just got the update today.

However, I noticed that the font colour for the new inclusions (Cynder, D/Trouble, Wham Bam, etc) is still black, like the items not yet available.

Is this intentional or merely an oversight?

I'll temper this a tad by gently reminding eager consumers (and consumers to be) that the app has to fit in memory without requiring connectivity to external sources.

Hence, some more stats is a feasible option but, unfortunately, embedding all of the videos is not.

For the record, the best apps are succinct and fulfill a purpose without overkill; in the development game bloated, weighty apps are a no-no (yes, I am looking at you, Microsoft).

The app has to fit into memory? I have several ipad apps that are over a gig and this app is only 11 megs. It's nice to see that there is a skylanders app but it could be so much better than what it is. How how some charater details, powers, etc..

Advertising that the characters have 360 degree views is misleading. They have like a 45 degree view, a 90 degree view, a 135 degree view, etc... this is not true 360 degree rotation.

The developer has added gold/silver variants.

However this opens up a can of Pandoras as how the hell are they going to add the pearl Hex variant?

The placeholder items should have their "Own Toy" sliders disabled.

There should be a placeholder for Leg Drill Sarge (as well as pearl Hex now).

The trouble with developers critiquing software is that they are never satisfied; grin!

Just got the update.

It is discriminatory to have the metallic Cynder but not the pearl Hex!

I got the app simply to be able to easily check to see which Skylanders I need when I'm at the store. Sometimes I forget the ones I've gotten recently and accidentally end up with doubles.

For all those that have droids, there is a free app that is just a checklist that I use... if only to keep track of them... it works fine.. just serach skylanders and the free and pay one come up,.... the pay one i think just removes adds, which arnt that annoying to begin with.... incase you have a droid and not an iphone...

I wrote my own little site to track as you can see in my signature. Nothing special or fancy. Just a quick couple of pages that can be viewed on any device I happen to be carrying with me - iphone, android phone or even my 3DS.

I just carefully removed the Skylanders from a triple pack to keep the back intact, since it shows little graphics of all 32 Skylanders on the backside on it. Then for keeping track, a good ol' sharpie!

Heck, I have a beer bottle collection numbering > 1000 and I know when I see a bottle in a shop if I have it already or not.

I am droid, so no app for me. Grrrr!
