It's not the first time someone is talking about hack on the forum, it can have consequences yes. Activision is pretty fast to remove the videos on youtube. maybe they can send a PM to Dark regarding these topics about hacks?

Not true. The program files on PC, for ALL missions, just say mission.str. You can't change the name of one mission from mission.str to mission.str, and it knows what mission you're trying to play.

Well..see here's the thing.

Yes and no to everyone saying it's illegal. Honestly, you've paid for the game, and you're free to do whatever you want. You're voiding the warranty, so if something goes wrong, you won't ever be able to get a new one besides buying it.

To me, I don't think the OP was "bragging" about it. He's just kind of showing it to us.

While it's not technically illegal, it's certainly frowned upon (as evidenced by this thread) and there's really no concern unless he's somehow rigging the games and selling them like this or some sort of hacked peripheral that can be used to unlock Empire without actually buying the set when it comes out.
No one has to worry about anything getting "shut down" either. If Activision want's to pursue the OP, they certainly can, but they can't do anything about the site. (At least..as long as SOPA doesn't pass..kekeke)

I feel like 70% of all the hate here is just getting a bit upset because the Empire isn't out yet.

You know nothing of license agreements. It is 100% illegal to alter game code in any way shape or form. It is far worse to sell game code that you do not own the copyright for nor receive permission from the copyright holder to resell it.

He posted to links and was showing Slam Bam and Wham Shell. I would be saying something different if he posted "OMG Look at me I'm so awesome!"

Now don't get me wrong; I don't condone doing what the OP has done or anything. But I really can't see them pursuing anything like that (legally or with a cease and desist). He's hacked the game, but tons of people have. (Not Skylanders; other series). Yes, that other guy did get a cease and desist. Maybe he wasn't going to do anything harmful with the code, but Activision clearly saw that the code could potentially be used to sell pirated copies of the game/ figures to unlock extra content. This guy hasn't posted anything that could be considered something malicious.

And look. They're down now from Activision. Now I highly doubt that had anything to do with what the other guy who was hacking the game was doing.

I'm not the original poster. I never stated he directly selling the code; just that if he WAS, yeah, he'd definitely be in some legal trouble. But because he wasn't, it's not like they could really do much of anything.

Take this one step further. Alter the code for windows 7 and change it so that it comes up windoze everywhere. Then remove all the security holes. Brag about that and see just how fast the legal team from redwood arrive on your doorstep. You cannot alter copyrighted code without consent period.

The Op didn't state "look what I did" It just says "I unlocked new Adventure Pack". I don't see that as bragging, but I guess to each their own.

I really don't see that any company can do anything. They've spent the money to purchase the game, they're free to do what they want. I've seen a lot of roms and hacks and whatnot, but I've never seen a company go after them about it. (Except of course if they were making a profit off of it) I mean, then it would definitely be illegal. But just messing around with things and showing them on youtube really doesn't damage a company or something. (Of course, the videos are taken down now because of copyright issues, which are still in effect). Although, in the end, I'd say it'd probably be more up to a judge about what happens.

Hope it doesn't sound like I'm defending the OP at all though. I just want to debate my points. haha

The company can do something. They own the rights to the game and the characters, and by hacking a character into the game, the person isn't paying for it. They may not do anything about this one person, but they would if he told everybody how he did it or gave it away or something.

To everyone: Who cares? The thread's already dead, so there's no point adding fuel to the fire. And for those defending the OP, why so invested? They haven't posted again, I doubt they'll ever care you came to their aid to begin with. This whole topic is over, and needs to be deleted.
