I've heard of a few people who are getting the message "A toy on the portal of power has a problem, please remove it", or something similar in the console/PC versions of the game. Ideally, when this happens, you should be able to reset a toy and it'll start working again (but, this error could mean a million different things).
Anywho, it appears that this isn't possible on the PC game (perhaps console). I had assumed the toys were breaking beyond all repair, which is why reset wasn't doing anything - but after reading this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards...enture/61225196, it appears that toys can be fixed during your Magic Moment interaction with Wendel on the 3DS.
So, you can try fixing your toys with a friend's 3DS if you don't have one, or if you are having problems exchanging.
Perhaps submitting this work around to http://activision.custhelp.com...duser/home3.php may put pressure for a patch to be considered (i have no clue if this is game side, the 3DS portal is different than the other ones as you can easily see)

Here are some more ways to contact activision (just saw a customer service rep is on here... here is his post from a different thread):

Sometimes I have the same problem "A toy has a problem with the portal. Please remove it."
I had this problem with EVERY character I put on the portal. Then I realized that my 3DS portal that stood right next to my PS3 portal was on. I put it a little awy to get more gap. Suddenly my PS3 portal could read my Skylanders again. |

That's odd, how did your 3DS portal turn on? It makes sense that there would be a little interference from other electronic devices. I have my computer connected to my TV along with my different consoles, etc... I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. From time to time my keyboard will act up/stop working until i remove my iPhone from my pocket and put it on the coffee table. |

It's connected to my PC cuz it works better with the webgame when I use a portal with usb cable instead of using the wireless PS3 portal. So it is on most of the time .
