Do both people get the bonus for completing a heroic challenge or not?

you can't do co-op heroic challenges, at least not on the ps3 version. It makes you sign off one player. Heroic challenges can only be done with a single character from what I understand.

Its the same on 360 as well, only one per Heroic challenges.

Also the same on the wii.
The reason for the heroic challenges is to improve how you handle different characters so if another could just step in, you could get away with not really using that character at all. I like it this way.

i agree and that is why you do heroic challenges alone....
