First of all, the cake is a lie.

Second of all. From what I hear, is that Skylanders is supposed to be like a webkinz thing. Well, you know Activision, I am an (almost) grown woman, and as much as I like games, I draw the line at buying toys that you plug into your computer and 'control'. I'm sure the game will be fine for the younger kids. But what about us old Insomniac Fan-Farts? Are we going to be left high and dry in the polygon dragon kingdom lands of the PS1?

Skylanders does not have online play, but has some sort of internet compatablity.

And apparantly, they are making it play like the Classics, but I beg to differ...smilie

Still, I mean, they're toys meant for kids. I barely have room to put a sewing machine in my room much less a collection of dolls. Maybe if they made them look really realistic like the cool dragon figurines or made them a little bit more like collectible action figures like with animes or the Gundam models. Oh well.

I still don't really get the whole hype they are putting up about ''ooo interactive toooyyzz, its amaziinggg''
seriously,what's so revolutionary about it?
it's basically a sort of memory card just toy shaped!
big whoop....
I'd like to see more gameplay smilie
even tho I'm not particularly that interested in this game...=/
I don't really consider it a Spyro game, since he's just 1 out of 30+ chars without any ''main'' role(as far as I know at this point) more like a spin-off or just put there just to attract more customers...dunno =/

The game isn't targetted to the "fan-farts". It's targetted for the kids, to introduce Spyro to them. And the game does take inspiration from both Classic and LoS from what I've seen.

Sorry, but not everything lasts forever, and I learned that one the hard way. This isn't made for nostalgia factor. This is made for the little kiddies so they can know about Spyro, and maybe even try out the older games for themselves.

I think it's been said that thet's actually what they're going. They want to put Spyro in the game to get more fans and buyers, and if enough fans come he'll get his own game.

The toys don't bother me because of "kiddyness". Heck, I've always wanted Spyro figurines, and I miss my two Spyro plushies that I gave away, and I'm a 16 year old Irish boy. I'm actually planning on collecting another toy line if it comes here, and I happily buy games like Sonic Colours and LBP2 during lunch break at school, while everyone else is buying Call of Duty: Black Ops and Fallout: New Vegas...

My problem is that they are making the toys out to be revolutionary, when they are really not, as Kimbia said. And, of course, the added cost they bring is a big turn off for me.

Oh, and the gameplay itself looks like that of a generic kids action movie tie-in, which again, is a big turn off for me. smilie

I agree with this.

I'm 25 and I still like playing Spyro. Really, it doesn't even matter how old you are in order to play a game that's supposed to be for kids. If you enjoy the games as an adult still, then that's fine. And I don't mind the toy idea at all. I'm a collector anyway. smilie

exactly,I also have no problem with the whole ''toys=kiddyness'' stuff like you said, it's just that they are hyping the whole thing so much...but when you look at it,it's really nothing specially new =/
too much emphasis on the whole toy aspect...
it just seems to me that they are complicating the whole thing by adding all those kinda unnecessary gadgets such as the special ''portal'' mat thingy which you gotta connect to the console(more wires, more needed space),toy shaped memory cards (which could be easily lost and/or broken) etc etc...
it almost seems like another Kinect/Playstation move/etc sort of devices =/ but just for one game and on...ALOT of platforms (how would this work on the DS or whatever other handheld thing they are developing this for?)
when they could just give you a normal game (without those fancy equipment) and a few normal collective figurines with those card thingies they are also talking about.
And the characters could be unlockable in the actual game/downloadable/maybe by some codes or something...
(I still don't see the point of Spyro being there besides to be a lil cash cow and attract customers, which ...actually worked)
plus it kinda sucks that you can't co-op online smilie
we just have to wait and see how this will all turn out c:

but yea the way they are doing it,it gives them alot more moneyz.... and Activision luvs dat...plus it looks fanceh with all that shiny portal stuff...and I guess kids like that.
just a personal opinion tho smilie

I agree with you.

I mean, you know what was ambitious and inventive?
In LBP2, when you publish a level/game, it gets a page on your LBP.me account. On said page, there is a bar code. If you scan said bar code with a Playstation Eye camera while playing LBP2, you would be whisked away to that level/game, without having to search for the level, or even queing it using LBP.me.

See, THAT'S inventive. And LBP2's GAMEPLAY is inventive too.
But did the scan feature get wide recognition? No, sadly...

But apparantly, constrained memory sticks that look like toys are "revolutionary"...

You know, I just realised.....
Skylanders "toy" concept is just a copy of the "Free Play" concept from the LEGO games, only with extra cost, and extra complication, and longer time to load up a character. In fact, the gameplay looks the same as the LEGO games, only not as good. smilie

Pfft, I watch Nickolodeon cartoons like Spongebob, Fanboy and Chum Chum, and Fairly Odd Parents, and I still watch old cartoons form when I was a kid, plus this noew MLP online on occasion. So no, 'childishness' really doesn't bug me. Though it may be awkward buying toys in public, given my obvious age... Bah, what do I care what shtangers think? VIVA LA KIDISHNESS!

So, about the toy thing....

What is it we are exactly arguing about?

I don't think anyone truly thinks that the interaction toy gimmick is really that revolutionary, it's just what is written in the press releases. Don't mistake the supporters for this game as people who are WOWed by the simplest form of technology. We are stoked by the general information of a Spyro game, mostly because of the 2 year drought.

And for the fans that have 'no problem' with kiddy toys, I question the reasons why you aren't buying into it. I hope the gimmick thing alone isn't what is turning you off, and I would hope that your reasons are more reasonable than "I don't want to buy a toy, I just want to play the game." Cuz, to me, that just sounds like an impatient Spyro fan who doesn't associate with anything that is fun unless it comes in the form of a video game controller. Lighten up.
Razz Platinum Sparx Gems: 6124
#985 Posted: 08:14:01 27/04/2011
RiverHippo makes some good points up there. I'm not particularly impressed by the interactive toy thing, though I do think it's neat and I'm wondering where it will go. However, I'm more excited about the physical toy itself regardless of what it does with the game because this is what I've wanted since 1998. smilie

I'm curious to see how the toys will work in conjunction with the game since I've heard this is older tech that didn't do well in the past but which, in this re-purposed form, appears to be more interesting.
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105
#986 Posted: 09:31:21 27/04/2011
If you were referring to me, riverhippo, then you must not of paid any attention to me since Skylanders' announcement. I'm just not generally interested. The game itself looks generic and boring, and I am a gamer first, collector fifth, so the toys don't make me buy the game. If I really want the toys, I can buy them on their own, but I don't think I will do that, as there is another toyline I have always wanted coming later this year.

I may get the game sometime, but it is definitely not on my "OMFG, DO WANT!!!11!!" list. If I do get it, I won't be like the fools who played LoS, knowing what it would be like and knowing that they dislike that sort of genre of game, and then proceed to rant and rave about how they didn't like the games(not referring to all Anti-LoS people, just the few I have seen who are actually like this). It's almost as if they wanted to hate it in the first place.

If I do get Skylanders, it will be either because I had some leftover money, or because I really just wanted another, easy to find Spyro game.....but the chances of that are slim, as I will be getting ready for Sonic Generations and Final Fantasy XIII-2 by then, and will still be playing LBP2 and Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy, and who knows what other games I may decide to get.

Yeah, niot really shocking, though. I mean, the console is overdue for its half-decade-ly upgrade. And I've heard DoTD didn't sell too well on it either. I guess it's just because there are so many shooters on it now, though, that Spyro has no hope of becoming any kind of popularity over on XBL. XP

Still, with all the buttons on PS and even Wii remotes these days, it could be difficlut if they're going to try emulating the console experience. Spyro is more difficult to make into an iPhone game that doesn't blow, because Sonic and SF have much simpler gameplay. A Rumner and a Fighter against a Platformer...
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105
#1000 Posted: 13:16:57 27/04/2011
Sonic is a platformer, and requires fast reactions. And Street Fighter is a kinda complicated game, with all the combos and stuff, and also requires fast reactions.

Sonic and SF are harder to put on iPhone because they are so damn fast-paced. A slow paced, simple 3D platformer could work easily on iPhone, like Spyro.
