The water dragon has the element of water platform under its feet in the trailer if you had looked closely, riverhippo... You were being so sure of yourself that the character wasn't a water dragon that you nearly overlooked this detailed fact. It IS a Water Dragon, since it has the element platform of Water like Gill Grunt does in his toy form.

It was confirmed on a gaming magazine that Spyro evolved from this early design to the design he has now. Someone posted a scan on here, but it was mysteriously deleted for some odd reason...

Not everything you read on the internet is true

It came from an OFFICIAL source. A member posted a page scan that confirms that this dragon design was Spyro's early design somewhere on this forum. The scan came from an official game magazine called Nzone.

I wont believe it untill I see it.

I don't know what sites, magazines or resources you think are official to you, but why not look at the Nzone magazine yourself and find the article about it? Unfortunately, you weren't around when the member posted the Nzone page scan someone on the forums that showed and confirmed that dragon design here is officially Spyro's early design.

Oh, and the confirmation of this fact wasn't from the internet.

Woah! $10 more than the usual price for the game and 3 toys which would probably actually come to the price of $85! This is outragous. I'm not going to buy this game now.

I know it's easier said then done, but is it seriously that hard to make Spyro look, well, like his original self? Y'know; cool yet cute, an idol to every kid? I know it's a reboot, but they'd sell far more copies if the design was more similar to the original, Insomniac design. Not hatin', just sayin'.

The main reason I started playing Spyro was because I liked how he looked on the cover of the box.

Seriously though, it's not like kids are going to use reviews to decide on getting a game. They judge the game by it's cover.

Frankly, I think Skylanders Spyro looks a lot like Insomniac Spyro. If the graphics of the PS1 had been better, he would have looked similarly. It's not like he was ever pretty. I recall back in the day describing Insomniac Spyro as being so ugly he was cute. Honestly, I still don't get how this is supposed to be worse than LoS Spyro (who had that massive overbite and that terrifying fixed crocodile grin D: ). At least goblin Spyro has legs that can support his giant head this time (never did figure out how LoS Spyro could even walk on his dainty little feet with a head that was bigger than his entire body).

Maybe the 'water dragon' toy was the old spyro design...?

At least they redesigned him. The character designer of Shrek at least kept Spyro almost true to his original appearance in his current design.

Geez, I suddenly have a new appreciation for Spyro's current design.

i still think this design was recycled for the water dragon IMO.

Unrelated to the topic, but I think I'm gonna save that file and clean up the lines... I'd like to see the designs without all the sketch lines.

Yes they are, which is why LoS' supposedly "realistic" designs (especially DotD) are laughable at the best of times. Skylanders is a huge improvement.

I love it, but it would suit another character better. Not Spyro.
