I think he meant you use elements in-game to unlock new areas
Examples: Use fire to burn vines, use Tech to repair mechanisms, etc.

Well, the lack of online multiplayer should not be a bad thing. Lot's of people we're saying a MMO would truely ruin spyro. Just another example of how Spyro's fans can't make up their freakin minds...

Umm...who said anything about MMO?
I would hardly consider a 2-4 player online mode a MASSIVELY multiplayer online game.

Huh...Why MMO? SSA is a action-plattformer with co-op mode, its sad that we can not play this game with a online co-op mode. Not all have a friend that would like play together SSA.

It was speculated to be a MMO, because of the Starter Pack and Adventure Pack.

Yeah, older people like me are gonna have a hard time finding "freinds" to play with. I'm in Dallas if anyone wants to look me up. My mom likes to make brownies for people who come over.

I'm kidding about the brownies, not so much about the coming over and playing the game... lol.

Honestly, I like their reasoning behind not making this an on-line MMO. I've seen more than one life literally ruined by games like WoW and I like that Activision wants kids to play together with this.

I wouldn't want an MMO. I would simply want a competitive multiplayer, similar to Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or every FPS in existance. It's kinda a shame that there isn't one, since I don't want to play this alone. smilie
Razz Platinum Sparx Gems: 6124
#464 Posted: 19:37:20 13/03/2011
But there is. The only catch is that you've got to find a friend to come over in person to play the multiplayer, but really that shouldn't be hard. And if it is, just take the game to the next nerd convention you go to and see if anyone wants to play. smilie
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6289
#465 Posted: 19:47:04 13/03/2011
Offline multiplayer is useless to me, since (like you said) there's nobody.

And I can never find a proper nerd convention. Nor would I walk in and say "HEY GUYS! I GOT A KIDS GAME THAT HAS NO GUNS! WHO WANTS TO PLAY!?"

#466 Posted: 19:53:03 13/03/2011
I had plenty of fun (in as much as one can have fun) playing DotD by myself and I haven't been fond of multiplayer anything since Goldeneye 64 was new, so this is literally no loss for me.
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6289
#467 Posted: 19:59:20 13/03/2011
I'm fine playing DotD myself as well, mostly because my little brother doesn't play very well and because they overpowered Cynder so I'd rather just fly through the stages as her (plus I have more of her armor). But it would've been nice to see an online multiplayer.

You should try out the new Goldeneye for the Wii if you have a Wii. It's great, and the online is fantastic.

I used the cheat codes in the strategy guide. Makes getting 100% of everything in the game pretty easy. smilie If I ever play it again, though, I'm playing it in a different language.

I was never that big of a fan of Goldeneye. I played it a bit when it was new because I'd never really played an FPS before and playing capture the flag on "slapper" mode with my cousins was hilarious. I haven't particularly wanted to play it again since, though.
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6289
#469 Posted: 20:17:58 13/03/2011
I can't find any cheats. Gamespot doesn't have any. Those bastards....

Why would you play in a different language?

Since I like all genres, It's expected that I'd like FPS. Goldeneye, Bioshock and Call of Duty are the best. TPS (Third-person) are cool too. Army of Two, Gears of War, and Mass Effect. If you ever want to try out shooters, I suggest those.

Huh. The official strategy guide for DotD lists cheat codes for all systems.

I don't really like shooters. I play games for the stories or (in the case of Mario) because it's a fun platformer or puzzle game/has bright colors. smilie The only shooters I've ever tried to play in recent memory were Half-Life (which I am miserable at even with god mode turned on) and Tomb Raider (also terrible at) and I only tried for the story.

I don't see why not do online multiplayer. It could just be the normal modes, with online support. I hate when games like this avoid online play. Well suited to it, but they have to go and come up with some silly excuse not to. I didn't even like it with DotD, but their reasons were a bit better there.

Just look at LittleBigPlanet!smilie

And Aura....let's be honest, swearing kids is NOTHING new(at least not to me). And just because one person uses it, doesn't mean everyone who sees it will.

And besides....the freakin' Simpsons Movie shows Bart's "you know what", and that's only PG rated, and it's a movie pretty much everyone has seen, so I don't think a simple swear can cause anymore harm than that could.

Not really. This is the type of game that wouldn't need specific online modes, but just online support for the modes it has. This way, you're not getting left out. And kids may not be interested in the online anyway, but Activision know full well a good portion of Spyro fans would like it.

Kids have been trying to act like adults since before humanity existed as a species. It's nothing new.

And you guys are all forgetting that there will be a form of web-based play for this game. That's been confirmed multiple times. It's just not going to be MMO-type play, which I still think is a good idea.

MMO is like World of Warcraft.
When I said online play, I was thinking LittleBigPlanet type thing.
Which reminds me.....since there is no online play, the web-based thing will probably be along the lines of "LBP.me"....

You know, with Michael Graham still in charge of the Spyro series, that would explain why Spyro is a mixture between the Classic and Legend Spyro. He was the producer of the LoS, and few of the Classic Spyro games in the past.

It sucks to be him though. It's a slap in the face when people turn their back on you just because Spyro's design is different, Cynder isn't in the game, and LoS isn't continuing even though it was clearly stated that DotD was the last installment.

Yeah, but I know he's possibly professional enough to ignore the Spyro fans who once praised him for making the LoS trilogy and are hating at him for making Spyro "ugly", and pay more attention to the Spyro fans who still adores Spyro despite the changes.

3/13/11 update!

  • DEVELOPMENT: Michael Graham (involved in A Hero's Tail, Shadow Legacy, and the Legend of Spyro) is confirmed to be working on the game as a associate producer. It's unknown if he's working either with Toys for Bob, or Activision Publishing.
  • DEVELOPMENT: It is noted that Activision will release the rest of the playable characters (may or may not packaged in one of the two packs) will be periodically after the game hits stores from then to 2012. Who ever thought Activision is going to release all 32 characters in one package when the game releases?
  • PLAYABLE CHARACTERS: Corrected 2 character identification errors; pointed out by Aura24, and riverhippo respectively. As of now, there are 18 characters revealed, only 5 have the full bio.
  • PLAYABLE CHARACTERS: Expanded the character appearance images! In order: figurine, game screenshot, promotional art, and concept art. It took a lot of work gathering images but it's worth it
  • PLAYABLE CHARACTERS: Also updated some of the older ones such as the Ignitor, Gill Grunt, and Prism Break figurine.
  • OTHER CHARACTERS: Huh? A new section you say? When the first details of the game have been revealed, a bunch of us have been scattering for the new Spyro info in that short period of time. We overlooked one thing, and here is this: there's a concept art of a dragon character - it is unknown if it is a playable character, or not.
  • REFERENCES: Added three source links - two of them preview articles (Palgn, and BuzzFocus), and a video (The Quarter Bin).

Man, that was rather tiring. Have a good one.

EDIT: The PLAYABLE CHARACTERS and OTHER CHARACTERS section took so much space that the forum can't accept the data. So it had to be split up into two sections, using one of the reserved posts. Sorry for the minor delay.
