OMFG!!!smilie

Actually, forget about other series'......just look at how unfairly SOME(not all, SOME) fans treated DotD, or even AHT...

That's true. Whilst I have my problems with DotD, I do admit that it has it's moments even for me, and parts that I do enjoy.

Yes, some people pass it off as the Sonic 06 of Spyro, in a sense....
And it actually got some pretty good reviews, great even, but the Spyro fans just went ape, both the DotD lovers and the DotD haters.
Some complaints are completely irrelevant and sometimes, hypocritical....reminds me of how Sonic Unleashed was received.
One guy wrote a critical analysis on Cynder, and I agree with MOST of the points made.....

As for AHT, people call it mediocre.....I call it evolution! Seriously, they tried so many new things in that game. It's what ETD should of been like. So what if the charcters acted a little different....they were still cool, the gameplay was still awesome, and the soundtrack was better than Copeland's, IMO.

I don't. I just dislike DoTD compared to the other games. Still, I can think of 3 Spyro games worse than it straight off.

I mean generally speaking, why are the original three so much better than LoS? I just don't understand, I'd like an explanation.

Basically because they have more free-roaming and require more strategy, as opposed to LoS with a good storyline but too much fighting. Personally, I like both of them because LoS was cool and a good change and the originals have a lot more variety and a great overall feel.

I agree, both are almost eqauls just for different gamer tastes, although i must say i loved ANB alot more than most, for one the requirements were just like old times. In 1998 you were freeing dragons, in 2006 you freed dragons.

I prefer fighting over strategy. Or both, a good fighting/strategy combination is awesome too.
Shining Force, MDK2, and any 007 game has both of these elements.

I like LoS because of the art, lots of action (why I like WaW), an awesome storyline (why I like any CoD game and all Halo games), and of course, the characters.

I feel a sort of odd attachment to 'legend" Spyro and Cynder that makes me love LoS games. I can't explain it, and I know it sounds awkward but...

I don't know.

If TLoS had started out without being inspired by Original Spyro and basically being based off of Spyro the Dragon games, we wouldn't have the problem of hating TLoS because if you didn't like TLoS, you simply wouldn't be part of the Spyro fanbase at all because there would be nothing in it for you. But it isn't that way. TLoS is a completely different type of game than the Original Games, and fans that were with the old Spyro from the very start were disappointed when suddenly the Spyro they new and love completely vanished into a new character, within a new game, and brought new fans that enjoyed the new games rather than the old games. They simply don't like the action in it either, they prefer the gameplay of the older games, and how it was more light-hearted and didn't have a dark atmosphere, as the new games do. That's how I see it.

#4263 Posted: 03:44:18 16/01/2011
I love the darkness though. The originals were too easy, the reboot added a challenge, and was more vicious than the originals. Maybe that's why I hate the originals so much, they're too lighthearted.
I have a personality of which I like darkness, and stunning events occur (ex. Former enemy becoming love interest.) I like it when bad things happen to the main characters, when something you didn't expect occurs. The originals are also too predictable. With LoS, every game was a surprise (I sincerely thought Spyro and Cynder died when the well of souls collapsed.) I hate games where you know what will happen before it even happens.
I also felt a more kinship towards "legend" characters than "classic" characters.

True that. a heroes tail was like a new fresh game for spyro, while enter the dragonfly felt like year of the dragon on new consoles( i didn't like the game at first but, i grew to like it.) but, a heroes tail was funnier and added more things and a new villan smilie as the final boss instead of a past enemy cough smilie cough.

I like changes in video games if the changes make sense.

It's because it made Spyro turn into the exact opposite to what he was meant to be.

I personally don't like TLOS because it's just brainless, repeating button mashing. It's easy, too easy. At least I actually got stuck in the originals because I didn't know what to do at certain points. But TLOS has no puzzles, so it's easy to get from one area to the next.

AHT is alright. I recently played a bit of it.

A 9? Not sure. Maybe in my book it would get a 9, but that's what I gave it last I played it. Odds are it will get a lower score once I replay it.

Giving it a 9 is one thing. Giving it a 9 just because the main characters got older is unjustified.

Exactly, the darker the story, the better.
what was spyro meant to be then? if los went against what he was made for

The Classics were bright, cheery, campy, and anything else that would work for a rated E game.

LoS had the dark story that could've worked as a rated T rating if there was some even darker, and it would've been rated T. But the E 10+ rating exists, so it got that instead.

Quote:

The developers decide what Spyro is meant to be, not the fans.

And there is no such thing as a button mashing game, just button mashing players. And the Classics didn't have any real puzzles, but LoS actually had quite a lot of puzzles. The DS version of ANB has 80 mirror puzzles to complete, and they get pretty tough.

To anyone who is gonna say that LoS is repetitive, both series' are as repetitive as each other. Not to mention that the attempts at variety in the Classics weren't always very good. Technically, LoS is actually less repetitive, when you actually do your math. Classics have some repetitive gameplay and repetitive, recycled storylines(Not to mention that Spyro 1 and Spyro 2's storylines are very similar to their Mario counterparts. Actually, Spyro 2's storyline is similar to two Mario games, although one of these Mario games was released after Spyro 2). LoS only has some repetitive gameplay, but the storyline is always different and actually feels like a continued storyline.

Quote:

I think I read that review. I don't think he gave it a 9 because they were older, but he gave it a 9 and just mentioned that he liked the fact they were older as a "side" thing. But if he did give it a 9 simply because they were older, then it was unjustified.

Quote:

I have actually seen quite a few reviews that talk about the storyline, but to your dismay, GamingMaster_76, they quite liked the story! Some of them went into detail, some of them effectively said "this game has a nice story that will keep you interested". The only reviews I have seen that talk negatively about the story were those by raging Classic fans, usually on this site.

I seem to be one of the now few who digust the story but like both series. smilie I don't believe how nobody sees how bad it is. It wouldn't be bad if they had thought of a story that wasn't so overused. I'd rather have a non-cliché and full of plot holes as opposed to a common one without plotholes.

But, anyway, I'd like to stop talking about LoS now.

I don't think it's completely cliche. It has some cliche bits, but what storyline doesn't? I find calling things cliche to be cliche now...
And while there are some plotholes, there aren't that many. It's only a plothole if it is unexplainable. DotD just has some plot points that are unexplained, but not unexplainABLE points(for the most part). Some storylines are like that intentionally. I love "open-ended" storylines, and that's what I think DotD is. It doesn't really matter if it was intentional or not to me, it's still cool.

I agree with that thing in Dragon City. It was a plothole. But it was kind of a minor one that doesn't really make a whole lot of difference to the plot in the long run.

Any new nes or important conversations?

Here's an idea for SK: Some people might not want to spend alot of time searching for an item, optional or mandatory, so why not emulate Epic Mickey's Emporium in Mean Street? Instead of being forced to look around, you could go to the store and buy what you can't find/don't want to look for?

What do you think?

Not sure.....I like looking for things. It could work. But they would have to have a good way of making money in the game, or it's look for what you want or spend a lot of time grinding money....

So do I but some don't so that's why it'd be a choice. And you wouldn't necesarily have to grind money. They could have clustes of barrels or chests or something full of currency which respawn every time you leave a level or area. It may take a bit of time, but probably not as much time as looking all over and travelling far to find an item, especially considering how much cash you'd find just going through the game.

I'll look at the spreadsheet now.
