Pointless collectables have, unfortunatly, gone out of fashion. (Skip to 5:35)

Except collectables in Spyro weren't pointless. In STD you needed dragons to save them and get from place to place, gems were needed to get from place to place, keys opened chests and doors which led you to more gems or dragons. In RR, you needed orbs to activate whirlwinds, portals, and open doors, gems were needed to learn new abilities and get to new places, talismans opened doors to the bosses' lair so you could fight them and move on. In YotD, Gems were also used to pay money bags to get to new places, eggs were needed to activate portals and were condusive to the story; they were needed to save dragon kind and bring back magic to the forgotten worlds.

Even in LOS, the masks (or whatever they were) gave you more health or mana in TEN, and crystals did the same or gave you more experience to level up.

When I say pointless, I don't mean "they don't have a purpose". I mean, they could easily be taken out and instead, progression could be level by level. I actually love "pointless collectables"!smilie

gem collecting(and other stuff like eggs..) in old Spyro games was not pointless =/
in fact, you had to collect all of them in order to open the last boss portal, secret bonus places etc ...
Quote: sonicbrawler182
Yeah, but most of them were just scattered all over the place.

well thats
the challenge...
to find them all...
you even get a little nifty upgrade to Sparx so he can help you point in which direction they were in a certain level.
Didn't you mention somewhere that you liked finding hidden stuff?

If the collectibles were taken out, then wouldn't it just be plain boring? I hate pointless collectibles, what's the point in making the effort to try and get them if they don't help you in the game?

They add more to replay value! Sometimes you HAVE to slow down and look around and explore to find what you need in order to progress, or you could go back after completion to find what you missed if you want 100%.

It would be good if you got 100% in the next Spyro game, and you unlock a cheat menu so you can replay the game again with whatever cheats are on in the cheat menu, that would be fun.

And the area should allow us to free-fly without any limit. And when we reach the highest, like at the same height level as the clouds, we can see the entire level, but also other landscapes in the distance around the area we are in.

I agree with Aura.

I'd LOVE some diversity of landscapes! Temple ruins, jungles, forests, swamps, sunken cities, frozen tundras, castles, mountainous peaks, dark sub-terranean areas, super fanciful, really creative towns, some dark and spooky, some bright and lively, some wild, some civilised.

I'd really like to see some unusual places. I remember one game (can't remember the name) where in one level/area you were INSIDE a giant animal. Not like the Destroyer where you flew in its empty chest cavity, but instead you were inside it's digestive tract and stuff. I think the point of that part of the game was to cure what was ailing the animal so it could help you. But IDK for sure.

I'd also love to see SPACE! I just think astronomy is so cool!

There is one later point where you are in some sort of giant frog or something(I haven't played through it myself, but I read an article titled, "Best levels inside a living thing", and it was on it).

Or was it Kingdom Hearts(you go inside a whale)?

Yeah, the idea of contemplating suicide in a Spyro game..... Way too emo, and not appropriate, regardless of how dark it is. Sonic attracts adult gamers too, Spyro does not anymore.

*points at Razz* Yes it does smilie

I'd like more angst and drama in a Spyro film. My perfect balance of light and dark are How To Train Your Dragon and Tangled. They did the balance VERY well, especially since there's blood in Tangled.

I seem to recall Link also going inside the moon in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask... Granted, I haven't played the game, but I watched my brother play it... The moon was very green inside. Like, a meadow, with a tree, IIRC. I think it'd be interesting for a similar level to appear in a Spyro game. Different from what you'd expect things to be, if you get my meaning.

If I recall, the turtle (if it was a turtle) was stuck in a cave. Maybe you had to do something to shrink it and get out quick in order to free it and get in the cave. Or mabe you had to go through it to enter the cave. smilie

You don't have to be emo to think about suicide. Also, the game doesn't have to be for adults for suicide to be suitable(Sonic 06 is E10). Sometimes, it's the people who seem happiest...

Still, a dark undertone is good for everything. Even the old Spyro. In the 3rd game, the Sorceress was planning on tearing the wings of the baby/fetus dragons to make a potion. When Bianca cried in outrage at killing them she said "It makes them squirm less."

I wouldn't want Spyro to have too much darkness, like TLOS did, I want more of the fun happy side instead. Maybe a bit of darkness now and then, but not over do it.

I would like some of the darker elements involved in Spyro to pull you in, but once you've understood the dark parts to it, then the lighter parts should be brought in and vice versa. Whereas in TLOS, it was sort of, straight away at the beginning all dark, then all light, and then just completely dark in my opinion, which I did not like.

EDIT: Even when TLOS first came out, I just thought "Remind me someone, why are they doing this?" With a sad face, lol.

They could have a similar tone to Sonic Unleashed:

Epic opening and ending, but a lot of funny stuff in between. Also, plenty of touching moments(likely to be SXC moments).

I kind of agree with you, I wouldn't want to see any touchy moments, if I do see them I will cry with cornyness. But other than that, I don't mind it starting off really epic at the beginning and at the ending, with funny stuff in between, that part I can agree on.
