Quote: spyro_madgirlOooh, I do love a good rant. WARNING: Contains strong opinions.
Effects 8/10 - Great work on the gameplay graphics, especially the breaths and movie cutscenes. The lipsync could have been a bit better, though.
Voices 3/10 - The voice acting has really plummeted in this game. Spyro's voice lacks any emotion, Cynder and Sparx's lines are way too forced and Ignitus just sounds boring. It's impossible to understand what Malefor says without sublitles on. Their voices are too quiet and often the music drowns out what they're saying.
Gameplay 6/10 - The best points are the co-op play with Cynder, the breaths (fantastic!) and the flying, obviously. The bad points are that the levels are very long and repetitive and there's not much evil build up to the end fight. Each level consists of doing the same task again and again (lighting torches... activating statues...) and it can get a bit frustrating. I hate how they got rid of the enemy names and health bars.
Characters 3/10 - I don't actually like any of them too much. Everyone's become more serious and boring as the plot has moved along and I don't really enjoy any cutscene anymore.
INDIVIDUAL CHARACTER RATINGS:
Spyro 4/10 - He's become a completely unemotional, boring drip. I miss the Insomniac Spyro days where he actually had a personality. He was a bit irritating in A New Beginning but he was only young then, you'd have thought he'd get a bit more exciting in this game. But no.
Cynder 3/10 - She is the most boring, irritating character ever to walk the Earth. Her lines are really forced, and she's become an incredibly moody character throughout those three years they've been frozen in crystal. I do love playing as her, but that's only for her breaths... her character is incredibly dull. I wish she'd stayed evil.
Sparx 2/10 - They really have ruined him. His voice acting is forced and unnatural and I just don't laugh at his jokes anymore. They ruined his appearance, too. David Spade and Billy West rocked this world.
Ignitus 5/10 - A bit too boring in my opinion. When he's dying, the voice acting really isn't convincing. I do, however, love the bit at the end where he says "Well, young dragon... where might you be?". That's about the only good bit of voice acting there is in the whole game.
Volteer 3/10 - Not enough lines. I loved him in A New Beginning but he doesn't even talk anymore. What's with that?!
Cyril 3/10 - See above.
Terrador 6/10 - Too many lines. He's not even that important and he gets so many lines. He's pretty cool when he beats up the golem, though.
Malefor 7/10 - He's totally cool... I love how they made him look, but the big problems for me are his voice (can't tell what he's saying...) and lack of character development. We learned a lot about Cynder in ANB, but we don't learn a lot about Malefor in this. But he certainly is cool.
Hunter 4/10 - I miss the old one. This Hunter is way too serious and completely different from the Hunter I knew and loved. His design is okay... but he looks stupid when he speaks, like he's eating or something... everyone's too serious in this game.
OVERALL RATING: 5/10
The game lives off its good graphics and the fact that the previous games have been successful. If it were a standalone game, I don't think we'd enjoy it as much.
EFFECTS: i agree
VOICES: Big red cross, spyro's voice didn't lack emotion. Only cynder's did.
CHAraCTERS: thats because they're meant to be like that. The world is about to end, and they are just gonna sit around joke about stuff. Of course, real realistic. Agree on Cynder, SPARX WAS AWESOME! Woot! wayne Brady! i agree on the rest, although Hunter is mint as now. He's awesome and has a really cool accent. Terrador is 1 of my favs, he deserved that many. Although Volteer deserved ALOT more. cyril is boring, dont really matter to me.
OVERALL RATING: Get your facts right. 9/10 for me.
