... Ok, so from what I can gather it's linked to the white surface, but whether that's just for the lights or not I don't know because there aren't any lights on the actual board itself. The only thing that really looks like it could tell what toy is being placed on the portal is the large black thing to the right of the board (link) and still that seems a bit far fetched.

Engadget have only posted a few of the pictures, there are some more internal shots from different viewpoints.

And unrelated:

Toys R Us have a Legendary collection with Legendary Spyro, Legendary Chop Chop, and Legendary Bash. Explains the inverted Chop Chop we saw. And I think we glimpsed Legendary Spyro in Chop Chop's memory bubble in that recent trailer. So three Spyros? More?

Dark Spyro has different attacks than normal Spyro, however it's uncertain at the moment if Legendary Spyro has any different attacks.
