To me, the irony is that he was able to sit down and try the game before completely passing on it, saying it sucks, while people in the comments continue to talk about how Activision killed Spyro.

Fortunately, he responds to most of those comments, telling them that it's a surprisingly good game.

I also like how it got the great reviews that it did. It's even as great as the reviews that the original Spyro games so far.

Unless the levels are significantly larger than the ones included on the retail disc, it's not worth the price. Each level in the game is roughly 1/2 hour long, remember. The levels in the adventure packs should have been included on the disc in the first place anyway. Withholding content from the disc and then charging extra for it shouldn't be allowed.

It could be a way of them making DLC by adding new levels through toys and episodes instead of making more games or having to have the whole thing delayed because of it.

Some console games have 4 discs, Doom was going to take 6 but they decided to do it in episodes

Info on the Adventure packs fully
I got the darklightcrypt one and it was WELL worth the money, Ghost Roaster is AWSOME. The darklight level is big ish and fun, if you complete it you unlock some pies that are dropped all around the world as an extra "food" item in some locations. The items are awsome and well worth it. Will do more more spoiler for them

Just about the items in here
WII: The healing potion you just plonk on your portal when your skylander is low health and it starts a (20 seconds, I don't know) timer which slowly starts to heal you, you can remove it at any time and place it later to use the remainder of your time, it resets for each level. The hourglass is similar but when you use it ALL enemys around you are slowed and it really helps you take out monsters when you get overwhelmed I used them both
DS: You pre load 1 item into your game and then when in game you can use it (mabey for a cost of 30 raidence, not used one yet) just by pressing R

If anyone can post what the Pirate Sea's items do I would be greatful as I can only guess what they do.

No, Activision wouldn't be able to pay off EVERYONE and still turn a profit. No, I think you misinterpret what I meant.

I don't care for good reviews. Any game can get them if you throw enough money at the reviewers, as at a point, they will say anything you want. No, I like... blunt reviews. Ones that don't ignore painfully obvious flaws in a game, that bash games rightfully, and call developers out on what they did wrong. Praise of gimmicks, graphics, and soundtracks... that I hate.

Let me put this bluntly. I don't hate SSA for the reasons everyone else does. Here is why I hate it:

1. I hate reboots. Reboots, frankly, are a way of game companies giving fans the middle finger. I am, more or less, a canon freak. The very few reboots I ever give leniency to are ones that tie in the smallest bit with the original series.

2. I hate gimmicks. Indescribably so. A game could be the most stunning, extraordinary, and amazing game ever, yet if it has the smallest little gimmick, I will hate it with a fiery passion and wish the greatest misfortune upon it.

3. I loathe Activision. They USED TO make great games, but now they cut corners, use gimmicks, rehash the same games with virtually no differences, and have quality control somewhere equal to Stellar Stone.

4. I hate games that are just idiotically expensive. For less than the total price of everything in Skylanders, I bought Assassin's Creed Brotherhood NEW, Oblivion GOTY edition, and Halo 3, along with all DLC for each. I can't even match Skylanders' price with every computer game I have, including Oblivion GOTY edition for PC. In fact, the combined value of every one of my game systems (PS2 Slim, Xbox 360, Xbox, NES, N64) minus the Xbox 360 doesn't even match Skylanders full price.

5. I hate anything hyped. SSA was hyped, and hype makes sure that I look for every flaw possible, due to my expectations being raised unnaturally high by hype. Hype is never indicative of quality.

For those 5 reasons and nothing else, I loathe SSA with a fiery passion.
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6266
#1043 Posted: 18:54:22 16/10/2011
Well first off, if you don't trust actual reviewers, you can look at a few playthroughs, like the one I linked on the previous page. He himself has said it's a good game, and he's certainly not popular enough for Activision to throw money at.

And if you don't care for good reviews, and you hate this game for a different reason, then why are you saying that the reviews are horribly disappointing?

Now for those little points:

1. To me, a reboot can be good or bad, depending on how it's done. There was nowhere that LoS could go, and the Classic series never really had an actual timeline. Spyro's story was very jumbled even before Skylanders, so another reboot is fine with me. It's better to reboot the whole thing than to try and add more to a mess of a timeline, only to confuse us even more.

2. Again depends upon the gimmick, and how heavily the game relies on it. From what I've been hearing, Skylanders doesn't really depend upon the toy gimmick as I assumed it would've.

3. So you're going to pass on a game you might like just because of the company that published it? I hate Activision too, but that won't stop me from buying this game. It won't stop me from buying Prototype 2. And I may be in the minority here on darkSpyro, but it honestly wouldn't stop me from buying MW3 either. Me not buying the games wouldn't tell Activision to fix themselves when millions of other people are buying the game.

4. I don't know if you noticed this, but Skylanders only costs $10 more than a standard Xbox or PS3 game. "BUT YOU NEED TO BUY MORE TOYS", I hear you cry. Not really. To play the standard game, you only need the game and the 3 toys it comes with. If you want to get 100% complete, then you only really need 1 toy from each element. You would only need to buy 5 toys, and only if you care so much about completing the game, having gotten all secrets.

5. Hype is not a valid reason to hate something you never played. If you played it, and you found it very overrated (i.e. Halo, Read Dead Redemption, etc), then it's one thing.

You always talk about how you hate this game for good reasons, and that nobody takes time to listen. Well I did listen, and the reasons you gave me aren't good. Sure, you hate this game for slightly better reasons than that of most people that have hated this game from the very start. But it's not saying much. It makes no sense at all to hate a game because of the company that published it, or because a completely unrelated game used a gimmick different to this one, or because it's simply hyped (which I personally think it wasn't compared to other games that have come out as of late).

You have no real reason to hate this game, let alone with such a passion, for the same reason why I have no reason to love it: Because neither of us have played this game. If you played it, and had understandable reasons as to why you hate it, then fine. I can't argue with you about that. But you gave me rather flimsy reasons to hate a game that only just today came out, without you ever having considered to pick up the controller, try for yourself, and see if your prediction is valid.

1. Fair, but I do not like it on the principle of my autism: I will inevitably hate change. Especially badly done change. Besides, most reboots do really poorly.

2. I don't care if the gimmick is irrelevant. Merely for having a small gimmick would I hate a game. Skylanders does not FUNCTION without the reliance on the gimmick. Besides, memory cards are more compatible for more game and cost less. And they make sense from a logical standpoint.

3. I had no problem with Activision when they gave a crap. However, I'm not going to blow 60+ dollars on a game that no passion or effort went into making. Shoot, if Activision put creativity, effort, passion, or even care into their games like they did in the past, I'd start buying their games again. But they haven't done so, so I reject their games. If they don't give a crap, I sure won't either.

4. You miss my point. No game should cost $300+ with all addons. My point was to show for the same price as Skylanders TOTAL aggregate price, I could buy 3 great games and all DLC for them. Or all but one of my game systems for the same price. Also, according to your stats, SSA is 111.66% percent the price of a normal Xbox 360 games, and I have seen SSA being sold at a price as high as ~300% the price of a normal Xbox 360 game, BASE PRICE (about ~1000% aggregate). There is a difference between an expensive game and getting ripped off for a game. This is a case of the latter.

5. If the bar is raised to the moon, you need a shuttle to get over it.

These specific points aren't limited to this game. If any game satisfies these unsatisfactory conditions, I will immediately and adamantly hate it, and nothing could change my mind.
CAV Platinum Sparx Gems: 6266
#1047 Posted: 20:06:35 16/10/2011
1. That's understandable. As long as you see the other side of the coin, it's fine.

2. Brawler has already stated how the toys are a memory stick. And he's mostly right. Also, shouldn't the gameplay matter, not the gimmick? I didn't buy a 3DS so I can see the gimmick of 3D. I bought it for the games.

3. It looks like effort was put in. Also remember that Activision doesn't make the games. They just publish them. Toys For Bob are the guys that made the Wii version, and watched over the other two developers while they worked on the PC, 360, PS3, and 3DS ports. You look at the game and you notice that they were actually trying to make a good game, rather than copy and paste like Guitar Hero.

4. It doesn't cost $300+ with all add ons. And I think you missed my point. You don't need every last toy. Whether you decide to shell money to get every last toy is up to the consumer. To complete the main story, you only need the 3 toys that come with the game. To complete it 100%, you only need to buy 5 toys.
What stats? The game costs $10 more than an average game. You act as if you're being asked to pay almost double the amount of a normal game. Nobody complained when Fallout: New Vegas made a **** ton of DLC, each costing between $6-$12, or when you had to pay $160 for a full band kit in Rock Band 3. Why complain now when you only need to pay an extra $10.

5. Your point?

In that case, you're extremely stubborn and unable to judge a game on it's main component: the gameplay.
