Best: Drobot, Sonic Boom, and Double Trouble.
Worst: Uhm... Slam Bam.

My best are probably Stealth Elf (really fast with fast attacks), Bash (slow but extremely high attack power), and Terrafin (fast, decently powered attacks and his Earth Swim can avoid field hazards in boss battles). My worst: I would have to say Wrecking Ball, cuz one, I am not that big a fan of him in general, and two whenever I play as him he never stays alive long enough to even see half the level that I am playin.

Best: Chop Chop (shield path) and Cynder (ghost path).

Worst: Currently Prism Break, but he'll be tamed soon.

The Skylander I'm best at would be Stealth Elf. With daggers and challenge upgrades she's damn near unstoppable in PVE. She isn't my favorite though. She's simply my best performer. My worst performer would have to be Eruptor. Is arching fire and low damage just don;t get the job done fast enough. I'm sure he can be used better I juts don't really have any desire to play him at this point. Wrecking Ball is a close second but he does a lot of damage.

By the way Gil Grunt is amazing down the water path. Unlimited Water, Exploding Sea Junk, Extended Range and the Jet Pack make him a heavy hitter. He's awesome.

The only thing that keeps Gill from being among my best is the fact that I can't maneuver his slow butt correctly.

Did you already get all of his +8 speed upgrades through Heroic Challenges? Once he is over 60 he should be good.
