when it comes to the embarrassing scale. it goes something like this..

05-21 (the acceptable zone)
22-26 (the gray zone)
27-45 (the embarrassing zone)

if it haven't been for all the figures and money usage. i think people would have accepted the game more and been less embarrassing. you dont see anyone being embarrassing when they buy the lego, pokemon, ratchet and clank games etc....

A lot of people told me that my LEGO games are a waste of money, and they don't suite my age.
Same as for Skylanders, I don't even try bothering to care. smilie
But yes, you got the point, with all the physical figurines collection aspect.
Still, it's difficult to make someone understand that you don't need all the 80+ characters to play the game, when they can't get past the "it's a stupid kid's game" idea... smilie

I used to tell the woman who is always working at Gamestop that they were for my son (I did originally get the game for him), but now I think she knows better and tells me if any of the new or rare figures are in stock.

I think most people assume that if you are an adult you are looking for a child, but the only time I actually feel somewhat embarrassed is when I am excitedly asking them to open up that new Wave X box I know that they just got in stock because of posts here and/or because I called earlier.

'Oh, are you the one who called a few minutes ago?'

Yes, yes I am.

I like the Lego games. But over the years it was to much games. So I think the Lego Marvel Super Heroes in the last year was for the moment my last game of this series. Or I buy the other later for a much cheaper price.

Time will show how it will be over the years for the Skylanders. But here it is just one game per year, and not two or three.

so whats your trick to avoid the embarrassing?

buy from ebay or other online shop. i guess that one is pretty safe. but it is not always you can get it online. do you go to gamestop 2min before closing time, when there is none people in the shop. if they give you the stare, do you come up with some story about you buying for your kids, that you dont have. do you wear a fedora, trenchcoat and black sunglasses?? i guess nobody go so far but who knows, skylanders addiction is hard.

Kids just stare at me and go back to asking their parents to buy the newest figure, so never really had the opportunity to help any >w>' They probably think I have a younger brother or something.
I did help some shop clerks, however. During Giants there was this guy that took care of the eletronics section and wanted to recommend figures to people, but he couldn't afford the game. I talked to him about a few features from the game(like how the "doesn't work on SSA" tag on Lightcores is kind of misleading) and for the rest of that year he'd show up to ask if I was looking for new figures whenever I passed by the section.

But yeah, unless it's some parent who has seen these games before, people will judge you on the spot for wasting money on a game's toys when there are so many games without that kind of DLC. Not that I mind, it's more that I like the game rather than the way it's presented, with toys or without I only look for a game that seems fun to me.

Well, I can say that I'm 31 and despite being in the "embarrassing zone" I'm not in the slightest embarrassed to buy Skylanders at the store. smilie My brother in law is 40 and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it either. Kids at the stores want to start asking me questions about I them when I am buying them or I help parents who don't know what they are looking at. I have never been "judged" for buying them, and I have to say that it gives the kids in my class something to talk to me about, because I'm really the only teacher in the building that collects these figures like they do.

Honestly, if you give a crap what other people might think about you for something as harmless as playing Skylanders, then the problem only lies with you. What do you care what someone who you don't actually know thinks? If it's a friend who is making fun of you (and not just in jest), then obviously they aren't much of a friend to begin with. If it's a bully (for those of you still in school) who are giving you crap about buying Skylanders, then consider the source and realize that nothing someone like that has to say is worth storing in your brain anyway.

Humans are jerk[bleep]s. So they tease and think they're so cool. Teens especially, who have this weird obsession with popularity and culture (I have never understood that).

But as for the game itself, no, you're never too old, if you enjoy it that's what counts.
And if anyone says a game has to be rated M to be good, laugh at them for saying Portal 2 isn't good.

It's actually kind of simple, in my opinion. When you don't have much else to worry about, popularity is the end all importance. As you grow older and get out of high school, you start having bills, having to get yourself up and get to class/job on time, it all just fades away and you realize that entertainment is in the eye of the beholder - and whatever someone uses to take their minds off the worries of the day is really quite minor in the grand scheme of things.

Teenagers are also obsessed with wanting to appear older, and have more responsibility. They want to do things typically restricted to adults. But when they get that responsibility, they realize that "hey, being young was a pretty sweet deal".

In other words, being popular is important when you have absolutely nothing else to worry about.

There's honestly no reason to be embarrassed (remember you are the one that decides to be embarrassed). I'm 17 and since I have my license I'm able to go looking for Skylanders or other toys that I want without bugging my parents. And since I have a job they can't tell me no. The employees at my TRU know my name know because I stop in so many times a month (which is a little embarrassing). But I will probably quit after this game so I can focus on college next year.

Here's just a quick reference for some of my favorite game series: Pokemon, Skylanders, Dragon Age, Dragon Quest, Dead Space, Kingdom Hearta, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Halo. Those are just off the top of my head. Point is, you are never "too old" to do something you enjoy.

Well then, you should be proud of yourself for being more intelligent than the other 10 year olds at school. You can actually think for yourself and you're not forced into the idea that only Call of Duty is worth playing. Well, at least I am close. I am 42 years old, and have always been eclectic in the things I like. Btw remember that word, it's great to use when someone asks how on earth I could get into Skylanders at my age. "Oh, you know, I'm very eclectic, I am interested in obscure Doom Metal Bands, Arthurian Legends, 19th century american novelists, David Lynch movies and Skylanders." Makes you seem interesting instead of childish. Weird, but interesting.

I've got a five year old daughter, the next one is on the way, a great girlfriend, a job, and a really wide range of interests. I never know what will interest me in life, this world is just full of fascinating stuff. And if the stuff happens to be made for children, then I don't care. Far too old to care about stuff like that.

I agree with what someone posted on a similar topic:
Quote: Failinhearts
That's a question you need to answer yourself. I get peer pressured and bullied for my interests, including Skylanders but I didn't change. Except for the fact that I isolated myself from my entire school and made myself a loner in the timespan of a year but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Disney Infinity is targeted to the same people but you and I still enjoy it. I see no difference between that and Skylanders.

It all depends on you, but for me, it doesn't matter how "young" a game is marketed to be. There's a reason it's called E for Everyone and not from 6 to 14 years old. If it's getting boring and stale for you, that's another story. If it's just the target demographic and tone, it doesn't matter.

Especially the last two sentences. It might be stale to you if the game isn't polished to your standards, true, but that isn't mutually exclusive with targeting a younger age group or being older than the group the game is targeting. Younger kids could get bored of it too. I'm younger than most of you'd probably expect, and I've pretty much sucked all the fun I could get out of the series; TT is the last shot for me unless a future game seems to address major issues I have or TT does (it doesn't seem to, but I'm going to try playing it to see how I feel).

I've had the opportunity to help a number of families in the Skylanders aisle. I find that it's always been boys out with confused parents, but either they are looking for something that wasn't released yet or they just didn't know what it was they were looking for. Occasionally, they were looking for something, but the last one was already in my hands. I've always given it up to them though, figure I can look for it another time. Families have always been grateful for the help. I don't mind who sees me, which is why I don't mind helping others with what I know.
