The Imaginite Chests appear to be static, like all other Magic Items (except Gold Trophies, and Sidekicks). Which means they can't be reset, but also that they can be used on multiple profiles. The game probably remembers which Chests you've used by saving their unique IDs to the profile, and doesn't allow you to use the same one again, but a fresh profile will not block the chests from being used.

Speaking of, this might work for the Gold Trophies too. Not that there's much of a point in resetting them anyway.

Phoenix Crystal is the best unreleased Crystal.
Skylanders Academy Season 2 was an improvement.
I don't know what to think of Skylanders' future.

So crystals can be reset using SSA on 3DS? Awesome! I still only want to buy them used, but now I can buy them used without worrying about battle classes.
