I've made similar topics to this in the past regarding Freeze Blade, but now he's confirmed to be an ice cat, I want to know the species of Riptide, Zoo Lou, Punk Shock, Boom Jet and Trap Shadow.

Riptide: some sort of amphibian? A frog?
Punk Shock: judging by those bits of electricity on her tail in videos, I'm guessing an electric eel
Boom Jet: some sort of monkey?
Trap Shadow: in my opinion, either a panther or a sabertooth tiger judging by his long, sharp canines and stripes.

Confirminations would be great, but opinion and discussion is welcome.

Zoo Lou has been said to be a bear shaman on one of IrateGamer's Swap Force interviews.

No proof on those, buddy.

Rip Tide does look like a frog, but he has fins.

Trap Shadow looks more like a panther.

Boom Jet looks like a cat, from how the mouth looks.

Punk Shock is an eel.

And, yes, Zoo Lou is apparently a bear.

It would make sense that Punk Shock is an electric eel (shock, obviously) but it doesn't explain her legs. I think Rip Tide is just a fish with legs, too.

I highly doubt that. If you read his official biography, it mentions Trap Shadow having "cat-like cunning" so he has to be a big cat of some sort. The question is which one.

Riptide does not appear to be a "frog", despite the appearance of his chin/neck and fingers/toes. Frogs do not have any sort of "crest" on their head/skull, in general. Some toads do, but that's rare, and this guy isn't a toad, anyway. I think trying to categorize Riptide as a specific real animal species is futile. He seems to be inspired by the "Zora" fish-people from the Legend of Zelda tradition.

Similarly, Punk Shock appears to be inspired from elvish character designs, just with an aquatic twist. I won't disagree with the "electric eel" hypothesis, but it's probably worth noting that eels do not have limbs, while Punk Shock clearly has four fully-developed limbs. Like Riptide, it's probably moot to try to pigeon-hole Punk Shock as being one specific species.

Boom Jet could be a "monkey" ... honestly he just looks like a generic humanoid weirdo.

Trap Shadow is definitely not a bear. I don't know where some folks are getting that idea. I guess maybe from the idea of a "bear trap"? Anyways, this guy looks to be inspired by Tai Lung from Kung Fu Panda. He is definitely some type of large feline, perhaps a cross between a tiger and a panther, as suggested by the OP.

I think trap shadow is a saber tooth...im just going to point out some key points here, trap shadow has large fangs coming outside of the upper part of the mouth, he does not have a long tail, we do not have any pics of the figure showing the back of the character though... he still might have a small tail. (RANDOM)> also when i listen to his voice ihear a little bit of some Diego from ice age :3

Boom Jet looks like a Mabu to me. Perhaps the same species as Flynn (who has been said to be a Mabu for some reason.) They have the same proportions, even the same giant, three fingered hands.

Rip Tide is just an anthropomorphic fish of some kind and an Eel for Punk Shock. They'll probably have their own species name.

I can see why you would think Trap Shadow is a cat, I thought he was a saber toothed cat at first, but then I started seeing a lot of badger in him.

I think Boom Jet is a chimp, Trap Shadow a panther, Punk Shock an eel (shocker....), and RipTide, um, fish-toad-thingy!

Actually, they're called smilodons.

Riptide looks like a Frog to me, maybe a Mudskipper (an amphibious fish)?. He also looks like Globox from the Rayman Series (without Fins anyway), who happens to be a frog.

Am I the only one who thinks Boom Jet is a Mabu? IIRC, Flynn was confirmed to be one in one of the books... And Boom Jet has the same body structure- on his chin and hands, most obviously.

Also, I think Rip Tide is some kind of frog.

Trap Shadow seems to be a combo of several...

Why would you bump this dead topic?? It's been 100% confirmed that he is a bear shaman. By one of the main developers, in fact.

Trap shadow is not a cat. I know cats, I have seen them closer up than anybody should, and even Freeze blade has a small resemblance to them. This guy id definetly not a real world animal, kinda looks like a demon to me, just saying. Riptide is an Aqua Fighter, not sure if that means a competitor in the competition in his backstory or if it's a race. Punk shock appears to be a reptilian version of a eel to me, possibly an actual real species. Boom jet... I think he is a version of Trigger heppy and Pop Fizz which are gremlins, wich actually makes sense because gremlins are said to live in planes, and either causes them to crash, or keeps them from crashing.

Punk Shock's soul gem, Eelectrocute, confirms that she is an electric eel.

Riptide is a frog halfway through its life cycle! Here, let me explain:
Froggies start out as eggs, then hatch into tadpoles. those tadpoles can only live underwater. They grow bigger and grow somewhat functional legs, but still must saty in the water. Once they are adults frogs get lungs and can go on land, but still stay near water.
The part where the frog gets the stubby legs could be onsidered Frog-Puberty. Riptide does not appear to be very old, so he maty very well be a frog in the stage of Froog-Puberty.

So no one notices my opinion? hardcoreignitor that is an interesting idea. bt I think that Riptide wouldn't have a crest or say go fish as his catch phrase if he was a frog. But then again he is abusively using fish as weapons

I know, it does mention him living under the sea and competing in underwater gladiatory competitions. He must be a kind of fish. Or an amphibious sea monster

Wash Buckler is a Mermasquid, confirmed in backstory.

Other Skylander species confirmed by backstories: Blast Zone is a Furnace Knight, Pop Thorn is a pufferthorn, Magna Charge is an Ultron robot, Night Shift and Roller Brawl are vampires, Rattle Shake (obviously) is a rattle snake, and Grilla Drilla is a Drilla.

Although not mentioned, Scratch is definitely a sphinx. Stink Bomb is obviously a skunk, and Hoot Loop is an owl, as you use him to attack you hear 'hooting'.

That explains why he has 6 legs, but he says "8 legs and no pegs" which doesn't entirely make sense.

Trap Shadow's upgrade on the Feral Instincts path, Nocturnal Predator, calls him a kitty. So he probably is some cat-like species......

As for Boom Jet, I'd still argue he's a chimp, gremlins like Pop Fizz and Trigs both have long, pointy ears. Boom Jet's helmet covers his presumably small ears but show a tiny bit of sideburn-like hair that sticks out to the side. Not to mention he has no tail.

Um am I the only one that thought Boom Jet was a mabu? The 3 fingers on each hand like Flynn's and somewhat similar facial structure made me assume....

BTW Zoo Lou's a bear? I kinda thought he was some sort of dog O o' And no not like Hot Dog.

The Mabu boom jet idea is interesting. Although this is a possibility, I believe it is unlikely, as Mabus are worthless at combat. They just are.

In Gill Grunt: Curse Of The Fish Master, the princess gillman looks an awful lot like Punk Shock...maybe a previous life? Or maybe they are related. I think Punk Shock has eel and gillman relations.

The Princess in the Fish Master novel is a mermaid, and she look completely different from Punk Shock, not to mention that they are completely different characters.

I meant mermaid, not gillman, sorry.

Maybe there are several types of mermaids in Skylands?

Also, I would have thought that boomjet was another humanoid type "elf" character.
