Skyladies [CLOSED]

We had a lot of good discussion over in the old thread (which was closed for no given reason):
http://forum.darkspyro.net/spyro/viewposts.php?topic=83345&page=1

Since we got a lot of the nitty gritty out of the way in the old thread, let's make this one a bit more fun. :) It's too late for any more female characters in Swap Force, but who would you have liked to see as female in this or any of the Skylanders games? Who do you imagine as female regardless of their canon gender? Do you hope future games will have more Skyladies? Who's your favorite Skylady so far?

For me, I would have liked to see some female Swappers and characters like Pop Thorn being written as a different take on a Skylady. I always imagine Hot Dog and Fright Rider as kick-butt ladies. Naturally, I absolutely hope we get more gals in future installments of this series, and my favorite from the start has always been Stealth Elf. How about you? :)

I would also like too see more female Skylanders. Especially in the Tech and Magic element.
There are more females in my Top 10 charts than males.
I hope for at least 2 more Skyladies in SSF. The 2 so far look pretty awesome and cool.
I really, like Sonic Boom,Hex and Chill. Roller Brawl and Star Strike are very high in my top list.

How about Gill's girlfriend, the mermaid taken by pirates? She could have become a pirate herself, and for some reason I see her with a mechanical tail too.

Also, Skylands needs a unicorn, though I don't have a preference for its gender.
And a phoenix too. I know we already have dragon hybrids of those things, but I still want them.

I dont know if I want a female Fire Skylander.
On one side I want a female Skylander in every element but on the other side, I want that Fire stays a guy element with only male Skylanders.

I really do think that they should add more "skyladies." But, not any female swappers. And, I don't think any of the skylanders we have now seem like they could have been female.

I'm not trying to be racist but there is a reason there are way less girls than boy skylanders, it is more attractive to boys than girls in the age group. Usually around this age group 9 times out of 10 girls will reach for a more girly toy so that is why the topic was probably closed. I hate to crush your dreams but unless activision sees way more girls into this game, then maybe there will be a bigger female presence of more than like about 6 characters in the game.

It would more accurately be called sexism.
In response to your post Hotdog, I think that is all the more reason to add more female/feminine Skylanders, because if they do they may attract more girls to the fan base and thereby get more buyers and thus more money.

Unfortunately since all the elements already have males, that's kind of impossible unless they introduce a new element. I doubt it'll ever happen but that would be fair since the Swaplanders are all male, though I have no idea what element they could introduce.

I can see Hoot Loop, Wrecking Ball, Trigger Happy, Fright(skeletal ostrich), and Blast Zone as characters who could've been female.

For my favorites I would have to say my number one is Stealth Elf(first Skylander I bought besides the starter pack of Spyro's Adventure. An employee was surprised that I picked her over a male character just because I was fourteen.)

And for future games I think there should be more females for elements that only have one or two. And of course the fire element.

It's too late for any more female characters in Swap Force,

Ummm... what makes you think that? Not only are there still Skylanders that haven't been revealed yet, but some of those "leaked" skylanders may be nothing but a fan's dream. Or Like that electric slime character how he eventually became Zap. So you can't really say it's to late until every Skylander has been Officially announced.

After all I was getting a little excited about all the "leaks" / "rumors" about the Sonic game coming out this year would allow you to play multiple characters... Then when Sonic Lost World came out... I was disappointed to find out it's just Sonic again. smilie (I'd go into more detail about this but it's off topic)

As for "how come you can see some skylanders as females?" I'd like to reference one of the rules of the internet that says "for every male character there is a female counter part"... just saying there's going to be people who can see a female of a character. Other examples are Fiona and Cake (adventure time) and Tailsko (Sonic the Hedgehog) (Though from what I heard Tails was originally going to be a girl but another time another place)

"Leave Fire type all guys," Uh... No. I really want to see a female fire Skylander.. perhaps a Sprite/Fairy or a pure pheonix, or even a pure dragon. But there's other options too.

"All Female Element," That's an interesting idea... maybe it could be a "Fairy Type"? But then you'd need an all Male type... and even though Fire is currently that... I still don't want it to be an all male element, after all there's loads of times where fire is associated with a female.

"No female swapforce Skylanders" To be honest I woulnd't mind a female swapforce... But if they don't... BOOM there's your all male type. Actually, they could even do that with an "all female Element" as in instead of being an element, make it a "Special kind" of skylander like swapforce or Gaint. Speaking of which, In a way Storyline wise I don't see why they'd add any more Swapforce, or even Giants. But just like with what I thoguht with Pokemon never adding another type, Skylanders could easily bust out some "new" Giants and swapforce characters in future games.

No. I like my skylanders to be guys, and Kaos' mother will be in the game. Maybe she'll put out some pain on these guys and force retirement.

But by all accounts, I don't care if there's a few pixels missing or added in certain locations---as long as the character is cool. I don't REALLY play a game going "why is this female" "why is this male" I just play the damn thing. I think frankly this re-hash is totally pointless.

This is my opinion. It's not a debate for me. Don't like it? Don't care. I'll let you guys (oops sorry--guys and gals) to your discussion.

I'm a cartoonist and there are some traits in character design that lend themselves to femininity (almond shaped eyes, a rounder face, etc.). When I first saw Fright Rider, that face just screamed "lady!" to me and I've never forgotten that. Also, I love tough women in practical armor (which is why Chill and Sprocket are so awesome in my book), so the idea of a cool jouster lady riding an ostrich skeleton struck my fancy. :)

Sure, here:

"Rider and his magnificent ostrich, Fright, were the finest jousting team in all of Skylands. But after winning the championship for the third straight year, a jealous competitor placed a curse on the elf that sent him to the land of Undead. Not wanting to be without his partner, Fright, who up until this point had been afraid of nearly everything, ate a bag of skele-oats that turned him into a skeleton so that he could brace the journey to the underworld to save his friend. Grateful for being rescued, Fright Rider returned to the surface dedicated to helping others - while still dominating an occasional jousting tournament from time to time."

What does him being an elf have to do with anything? The shorthand for femininity in cartoons applies to all species and almost all cultures which create cartoons. Elves are just pointy-eared humans these days, anyway. :D The only thing that made me even vaguely consider Fright Rider as male was his masculine voice and canon gender; even so, that doesn't really change anything for me. I even did early art of him as a lady before we knew anything about the character (and only had a very blurry image to go on; also there is Shroomboom). :)
